Former India Keeper Wants Kuldeep Yadav To Play 5th Test: 'If Bumrah Isn't...'
India gears up for the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval, considering Kuldeep Yadav. Ex-cricketer Parthiv Patel backs Kuldeep for his attacking edge.
As India prepares for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval, there are ongoing discussions regarding the team's bowling combination, particularly the absence of Kuldeep Yadav throughout the series. With the series currently favouring England 2-1, and India aiming to level the score after their spirited draw in Manchester, Kuldeep's name has resurfaced in conversations.
Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel commented on the potential inclusion of Kuldeep, stating,"India should approach selection the way they've approached their batting — with confidence. If Bumrah isn't available, India will need another attacking bowler. In this current bowling mix, Kuldeep Yadav offers that attacking edge as a wicket-taker. So from that perspective, I believe India should find a way to include him."
India has struggled to accommodate their premier left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep in the final XI during the last four Tests. With Jasprit Bumrah, the world's best and India's pace spearhead, having played his quota of three Tests, his availability for the final fixture remains uncertain.
India's bowlers have found it challenging to pick up 20 wickets this series, particularly on flat tracks that haven't provided much assistance. Kuldeep, with his wrist-spin variety and partnership-breaking ability, could be the X-factor India needs in London. Parthiv added, 'Whether it happens or not, I'm not sure — but my opinion is that Kuldeep Yadav should definitely play."
Kuldeep hasn't featured in any of the four Tests so far, a decision that has been perplexing given the lack of breakthroughs at crucial moments. As the Men in Blue aim for a 2-2 series result at The Oval, the team management's selection decisions will be under scrutiny.
India's squad for the fifth Test: Shubman Gill (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, N Jagadeesan (WK). (ANI)

How KL Rahul Became A Fan Favourite In Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Last Updated: KL Rahul's contribution with bat as India's opening batter and being a solid team player earned him the deserved respect from cricket community during Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. KL Rahul, India's opening batter, concluded his five-match Test series in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on a rather tame end when he guided one of Josh Tongue's deliveries into the pockets of Joe Root in the slips. He was dismissed for 7. Rahul was undone for 14 when he was cleaned up by Chris Woakes in India's first innings during the fifth and final Test at The Oval. However, the stylish right-handed batter has been in sublime form throughout the series, and he would be a happy campaigner looking back at his 532 accumulated runs. His tally of runs includes two centuries and as many half-centuries. As we conclude the series, the fans on social media have taken time from their lives to give Rahul the due credit for helping India have a dependable batter on top who is equally elegant and plays handsome cover drives. Tapasvi India were 0 for 2 in their second innings during the fourth Test at Old Trafford Stadium with England sniffing a potential Test series win around the corner. Thankfully for India, Rahul, along with captain Shubman Gill, had no plans to bow down to the English. Rahul played a solid 230-ball 90, helping steady the ship with Gill (103), which was later manoeuvred by Ravindra Jadeja (107) and Washington Sundar (101). India escaped a defeat and frustrated the home team with a hard-earned draw. 'At some point, I hope people start giving him the respect he deserves. He's playing like a tapasvi, a true ascetic at the crease. He may have missed his century, but he's been the backbone of India's top order this series," Akash Chopra, responding to Rahul's grit, expressed. 'We expected to miss Rohit at some point, given how good he was last time here. But KL and Yashasvi have done incredibly well. They've been solid and confident, and that's been vital," the commentator added. Standing Up For Team On Day two of the fifth Test, Rahul was at his candid when he questioned the umpire Kumar Dharmasena if the visiting side should keep quiet, just play bat and bowl, and not engage in any kind of emotion. Rahul was responding to the on-field back-and-forth unfolding between England star Joe Root and Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna wherein the latter was trying to rattle Root. The English batter seemed every bit animated and did not like what was being said to him by Krishna. When Root came at Krishna, Rahul decided to step in. 'What do you want us to do? Be quiet?" an annoyed Rahul asked Dharmasena. 'Will you like any bowler who comes and walks to you? No, you can't do that. No, Rahul, we shouldn't go on that way," Dharmasena told in response. 'What do you want us to do? Just bat and ball and go home," Rahul retorted. 'We will discuss at the end of the match. You can't talk like that," the umpire added. Series Stats KL Rahul in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy: Tests: 5 Runs: 532 Average: 53.20 100s: 2 50s: 2 Rahul, unfortunately, fell short of the great Sunil Gavaskar by just 11 runs. IND vs ENG 5th Test LIVE Updates: Red carpet for India as ideal batting conditions await Jaiswal, Gill to make merry
IND vs ENG 5th Test LIVE Updates: Moving day in the decisive fifth and final Test match of this rollercoaster Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and as has always been the case with this series, it is here and with all to fight for. The teams are once again neck-and-neck, neither side too disappointed with where they are, but aware that the game can slip out of their grasp quickly at this crucial juncture of the More India are currently 75/2 in the third innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal still at the crease with nightwatchman Akash Deep at the other end. Their lead stands at 52, thanks to Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna sparking into action and leading their fightback to ensure a firecracker England start didn't turn into another miserable bowling session for the visitors. Essentially at 52/2 with KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan back in the hut, it comes down to the future of Indian cricket, its two best batters over recent years, as Yashasvi Jaiswal tries to find his touch after a few quiet innings struck together. He will be hoping to find able support from Shubman Gill, still to come in, who has enjoyed a phenomenal series in his first outing as captain. Nevertheless, all of it will be for nothing if the skipper can't see his team through to a win in this Test match. Will that added pressure spur on his game, or will he falter when the lights are at their brightest? The Oval has been a dream for seamers so far on its first two days, with a nice covering of grass and very overcast conditions. The good news for India is that it is the third day, when batting is expected to be at its best, and it coincides with the brightest day of the week on the forecast. If the conditions play in their favour, India know they will have no better chance of setting up a massive fourth innings chase for the English team — and a truly massive score will be needed for England, who are such good chasers, even without their talismanic captain at their disposal. No Chris Woakes either for England, another boost in India's favour, but there will need to be a lot of care and responsibility taken by the remainder of India's batting. There is still a lot of batting in the tank: Jaiswal is already at the crease, and will want to convert his fast start into a big score after throwing away his wicket on occasion this series. Gill has yet to come out of the hut, along with Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar. That's a lot of batting, but India will know that anything sub-300 in terms of a target will likely not be enough — and even scores in excess of that have been hunted down in their very matchup. The match will take a turn in one direction or the other by the end of day's play today, you feel, after two fairly honours-even kind of days. For India, it is a matter of desperation to be on the right side. They were in a similar predicament in Australia earlier this year: can they do better now than on that occasion?
