Driver of car involved in fatal accident remanded for seven days
TEMERLOH: The car driver believed to be involved in the fatal accident that killed two teenage girls at the traffic light intersection on Jalan Tengku Ismail here yesterday has been remanded for seven days.
Temerloh District Police Chief ACP Mazlan Hassan said the 38-year-old man, whose address is in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, was detained starting today until June 18.
'The suspect was remanded to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,' he said in a statement today.
Earlier, Mazlan was reported to have said that a search of the car found plastic packets suspected to contain syabu and heroin drugs estimated to be worth more than RM6,000.
In the incident around 11 pm, motorcyclist Nur Irdina Shaffiya Muhammad Nazri and her pillion rider, Aneez Irdiena Sofya Khairul Azman, both aged 18, died at the scene, believed to have been hit by a Perodua Bezza car while they had stopped at a red traffic light.

KUANTAN: Two people died and six others were injured after the car they were traveling in hit a lorry that had stopped on the road shoulder at Kilometre 37, Jalan Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) near Kampung Chegar Perah, Lipis early this morning. He said that as a result of the accident at about 5.30 am, Roslawati Mat Daud, 50, who is the wife of the driver and niece of driver Aqif Azfar Azman, 6, died at the scene. 'Aqif Azfar died on lap of his father who was in the front passenger seat,' he said. Ismail said the car driver and five other passengers were rushed to Kuala Lipis Hospital for further treatment, while the lorry driver and his assistant were unhurt. He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Meanwhile, police are appealing to members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Highway funds misuse: MACC seizes luxury items worth RM16m
THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized another RM16 million worth of luxury items linked to the misuse of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway in Klang Valley believed to be owned by a concession holder with the title of Tan Sri yesterday. The MACC said the seizure at the individual's residence in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Cheras included 84 luxury bags worth about RM3 million, 11 branded watches (about RM1 million), gold bars, coins and statues (about RM3 million), diamonds and jewellery (about RM4 million). 'A luxury casino equipment set estimated to be worth RM150,000 was also seized,' the commission said in a statement, adding that a secret vault that stored weapons and ammunition was discovered but the weapons were not seized as they were registered under the security company the individual owned. An Anti Corruption Tactical Squad (ACTS) conducted the search of the individual's residence as he was suspected to be keeping weapons in the vault. 'The MACC received information that there was a vault storing valuables, including weapons, linked to the case in his residence. 'The presence of the ACTS team was to ensure safety and to escort officers and seized items back to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya,' the commission added. Meanwhile, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the search and seizure and did not deny the possibility that there would be other seizures linked to the case. He said that the process of taking the individual's statement had to be postponed to a later date due to health factors.
