Operation Sindoor — History Will Record...: Ex-PM Deve Gowdas BIG Remark On PM Modi
Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) Rajya Sabha member H.D. Deve Gowda expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership following Operation Sindoor.
'The past couple of weeks must have been very demanding and stressful, but I am happy that God has given you strength and resolve to see India through these trying times. Your leadership has been exemplary, and history will undoubtedly record it in glowing terms,' wrote the former Prime Minister in an appreciative letter addressed to PM Modi.
Gowda described the government's approach as 'mature and restrained,' while noting that PM Modi's prompt return from Saudi Arabia and his decision to cancel his planned visit to Europe reflected both responsibility and sensitivity to the crisis at hand.
'I write to you with a deep sense of appreciation, following India's mature and restrained military response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack. I have been watching the determined steps that you have taken from day one,' the former Prime Minister.
'When you cut short your visit to Saudi Arabia and rushed back to monitor the developing situation in India, conduct strategy meetings, mobilise international support and inspire our armed forces. You also later cancelled your trip to Europe to be available at home for all emergencies,' Gowda stated.
The former Prime Minister also acknowledged the immense stress and demands of decision-making in times of national crisis.
He remarked that PM Modi's spiritual grounding and calm judgement were evident in how the situation was handled, stating, 'I know it is lonely at the top… You have demonstrated that you have it all in good measure.'
As India continues to face threats from across the border, the 93-year-old Deve Gowda invoked the values of dharma, praying that divine strength guide the Prime Minister and the country.
'We suffer together, but we also rise together as one nation and one people. I pray that God be with you, and with our great nation as we wage this war of Dharma against Adharma of terrorism. India is a peace-loving nation and has always spread positive light in the world, but if someone sees it as our weakness, then they now know what we are capable of,' he said.
He said that the challenges the country faces may not certainly end here, but there is immense relief in the fact that the people remained united as a nation. The letter comes after the centre held an all-party meeting to brief political leaders about the success of Operation Sindoor.

A day after INDIA bloc parties wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss the developments following the terror attack in Pahalgam, the Opposition parties Wednesday hit out at the government for announcing the dates of the Monsoon session 'so much in advance' and alleged that it was done to dilute the demand for the special session. Barring AAP and NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar, all other INDIA bloc parties had signed the letter. The AAP is learnt to have sent a separate letter raising the same demand. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju Wednesday announced that the Monsoon session of the Parliament will commence on July 21 and conclude on August 12. Criticising the government action, Congress communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh said that 'usually the dates of the Parliament session are announced a few days in advance'. 'But this time, the dates were announced 47 days before the session began — this has never happened before,' Ramesh said. He alleged that the decision was taken by the government only to avoid the demand of the India alliance to convene an urgent special session of Parliament. 'Serious issues including the failure of the government to bring to justice the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack, impact of Operation Sindoor and the situation that arose thereafter and blatant politicisation of Operation Sindoor should be discussed in Parliament,' the Congress MP said. 'All these issues, which are of supreme national interest, will remain the focus of discussion during the monsoon session as well. After six weeks, the Prime Minister will have to answer some difficult questions,' said Ramesh. Samajwadi Party MP Javed Ali Khan said the government 'wants to dilute the Opposition's demand for a special session'. 'This is unprecedented,' he said. TMC Parliamentary Leader in Rajya Sabha Derek O'Brien said 'the government is scared'. 'Usually, a Parliament session is announced around 19 days ahead. This time, they announced it 47 days ahead. So scared,' said O'Brien. AIMIM chief and MP Asadduddin Owaisi said that during the Monsoon session, there must be a debate on the Pahalgam attack, the alleged security lapse, and those accountable for it. AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said that the Monsoon session is a regular session, and the government was not doing any favours by announcing it now. 'We will continue our demand for a discussion in (Parliament) on the issues related to Pakistan,' said Singh. RSP MP N K Premchandran also criticised the government action.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, setting the tone for the government's immediate and long-term strategic agenda, including national security, water policy, and public outreach. This meeting also marked the first such high-level gathering following India's strong military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed multiple innocent lives. According to sources, the meeting saw a detailed briefing on Operation Sindoor, India's retaliatory offensive against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened the session by providing an overview of the operation, after which Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan delivered a comprehensive presentation on its execution and strategic impact, sources said. Under Operation Sindoor, India struck nine terror camps, with subsequent action countering Pakistani offensives across multiple sectors. The government in the meeting also reviewed pressing issues related to developmental projects. The Ministry of Jal Shakti gave a detailed presentation on India's water management strategy, including a status update on the Indus Waters Treaty and other key infrastructure projects. According to sources, the presentation covered both India's diplomatic positioning and internal preparedness on water sharing and conservation, especially concerning cross-border rivers. Presentations were also made by other ministries, focusing on critical sectors ranging from infrastructure and energy to social welfare. Ministries were instructed to align their communication strategies with the government's larger public engagement goals. Importantly, all ministers were directed to take the government's achievements over the past 11 years directly to the people. The Prime Minister stressed the need for unified messaging and on-ground outreach to showcase development work and reforms under the NDA regime. With the strategic and administrative roadmap laid out, the Council of Ministers now enters what is expected to be a crucial phase of implementation and public engagement in PM Modi's third term.

Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi took a jibe at former Pakistan foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, mimicking his tone as she responded to his recent remarks on India's Operation Sindoor. Bhutto had questioned the timing of the operation, saying, 'Koun raat ke andhere mein hamle karte hai? Buzdil raat ke andhere mein hamla karte hai' (Who attacks in the dark? Cowards do). Responding during an address to the Indian diaspora in Belgium, Chaturvedi said, 'Let me explain what buzdil (coward) means — those who stage coups against elected governments, jail political leaders, and murder an elected prime minister to install an army general in power.' She said that the same army general who came to power began radicalisation in Pakistan, destroying what was left of the constitution and shattering Jinnah's vision. She also mocked an upcoming Pakistani delegation, saying Pakistan has kept following India even after more than 70 years since their separation. 'A delegation is coming after us, and you all know which one that is. They have been chasing us and refuse to let go. We left them in 1947, but they haven't stopped following us,' she said. 'They'll be arriving in a few days. The person leading this delegation... I say all this only to put in context what India stands for, what we need to expose, and why we are here,' Chaturvedi added. Earlier, Chaturvedi had said that while India is actively pursuing global free trade agreements, Pakistan is instead promoting what she described as a 'free terrorist arrangement' worldwide. 'We have recently concluded a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom. We also signed one with Australia some time ago. We are preparing to finalise similar agreements with the European Union and with the United States in the near future,' she said in London, speaking as part of an all-party delegation.
