PETRONAS and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team to Collaborate On Advancing Research On Carbon Capture And Storage In Mangrove Ecosystems
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team will be collaborating to launch the Blue Carbon Collective, a South-South research initiative that aims to advance research and knowledge exchange on carbon capture and storage in mangrove ecosystems. The Collective will build upon the ongoing cooperation between the University of São Paulo (USP) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), fostering collaboration and resource sharing between two countries in the southern hemisphere – Malaysia and Brazil.
The announcement took place at the inaugural Energy and Nature Forum, hosted by PETRONAS in Kuala Lumpur, which aims to put a spotlight on the intersection of energy and nature by bringing together global leaders from both fields. PETRONAS also unveiled its first ever nature and resource efficiency targets at the Forum which, together with the Blue Carbon Collective, reinforces the company's commitment to use natural resources responsibly and to engage in practices that restore, protect and conserve ecosystems in countries where it operates.

On the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in journalism, Yong acknowledged its potential in enhancing newsroom operations but cautioned against over-reliance on the technology. 'Yet, while AI presents exciting opportunities, it must be adopted judiciously. Journalism is not merely about data processing; it is about human judgment, investigative rigour and ethical responsibility,' he said. Yong stressed that AI should complement, not replace, journalists, and the challenge lies in integrating the technology responsibly to enhance the credibility and effectiveness of media without eroding core journalistic values.

Veteran Solo Journalist, Haliza Hashim Links Two Continents
By Syamsiah Sahat IPOH, June 14 (Bernama) -- "Haliza Hashim, That was the iconic sign off of TV3 news correspondent, Haliza Hashim who was the face connecting Malaysian viewers with major events in Europe for over 30 years. In an era of increasingly advanced technology, this 60-year-old woman takes on the task of a versatile solo journalist who can double as a cameraman, interviewer, voice-over artist, scriptwriter, editor and presenter to make a complete and interesting report. "More than three decades, as if I can't believe it, I'm still standing here, still reporting. As long as the television company needs me, I will be here and retire here," she said when met by Bernama in London, recently. Recounting her career path, the Cardiff University economics graduate said she started at the TV3 News Room, Jalan Liku, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur in the early 1990s as a broadcast journalist for the news segment and Money Matters programme from February 1991 to January 1993 before making the bold decision to become a correspondent in London. "I started by joining several international media associations, introducing myself to Malaysian government departments and agencies in London and building networks with key ministries here. Chasing deadlines and language barriers in European countries were among the major challenges faced. "In the 90s, I hired a cameraman, rented an editing studio, sent visuals using satellite and sent text reports via fax to the newsroom. If you think about it, journalists are really lucky these days, they can write scripts and record visuals with smartphones." Haliza said that with the development of technology, starting in 2013 she used a broadcast-quality video camera to record visuals and interviews, edit videos using applications on her laptop and send news using the latest system directly to the editor in the newsroom. "As a solo journalist, sometimes I miss the intimacy with my colleagues, crew and the atmosphere of the newsroom. However, the advantages of working solo allow me to move more easily, quickly and save costs,' said the mother of two, aged 30 and 26.

This innovative initiative provides UniMAP students with the opportunity to undergo industrial training overseas, offering valuable global exposure that will significantly enhance their future career prospects. UniMAP vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli said the UniMAP@3i was specifically designed to bridge academic learning with real-world experience in international companies. 'It is not just an ordinary industrial training. This programme is carefully and comprehensively structured to provide a holistic experience that includes the development of soft skills, communication, and self-confidence, along with exposure to international work culture,' he said. He added that UniMAP@3i incorporates several unique elements that set it apart from conventional industrial training programs. Zaliman said this in a press conference after the UniMAP Industry Eminence Awards 2025 ceremony held here last night, where 29 industry partners were honoured for their collaboration. He added that among the key elements of the programme are careful matching between students and overseas companies suited to their fields of study and interests, and pre-placement training to prepare students for different workplace cultures and environments. In addition, UniMAP provides full support to students throughout the industrial training period, including follow-up sessions after the training to evaluate the programme's effectiveness and impact. 'This time, 11 students from the fields of engineering and entrepreneurship have been selected to participate in the first phase of the programme, reflecting UniMAP's focus on learning various skills,' he added.
