Uttar Pradesh: Missing sisters return to Muzaffarnagar home with a twist no one saw coming

Mint08-08-2025
In Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, two cousin sisters who had gone missing from their families returned home after several days with a twist straight out of a Bollywood movie.
According to an Amar Ujala report, the missing sisters returned dressed as bride and groom, respectively, and declared that they had married each other and now wished to live together.
Two sisters went missing from their homes in neighbouring Muzaffarnagar villages. The father of one of the girls filed a complaint, fearing for his daughter's well-being.
In his statement, he alleged that his daughter was lured away by her cousin, who lived in neighbouring Titawi village, expressing suspicion that his daughter might 'have been sold" somewhere.
The complaint reached Lucknow, following which the police launched an investigation.
According to Amar Ujala, Lucknow police were able to contact the missing girl and assured her that she would be given security if she came forward.
On August 7, the two girls walked into the police station. One was reportedly dressed as a groom, while the other had sindoor (vermilion) applied in the parting of her hair.
Their relatives were present when the pair arrived at the police station.
The girls said they had been in love with each other for over a year and had decided to spend the rest of their lives together. Therefore, they said, they married in a temple before coming to the police station.
According to the report, the younger of the two is now living as a boy and has completed Class 12, while the 'bride' sister studied until Class 10.
The girls also assured their family and the police that they took a long time to talk things out and 'developed an understanding' before making the decision to be together.
The girl said that earlier they were 'sisters", but now they consider themselves 'companions'.
Relatives tried to persuade the girls to return home and urged them to reconsider their decision, but they refused to change their minds.
Police then escorted them away from the station to ensure their safety.

A ‘Special 26'-style heist in Gurgaon as gunmen posing as auditors loot finance office

Around 6 pm on Saturday, three men, one carrying a firearm, entered a Manappuram Finance office in Sector 5, off Sheetla Mata Road, claiming to be auditors. Within minutes, they brandished the weapon, assaulted two employees and fled with Rs 9 lakh in cash and gold, the police said. 'They entered the company office on Sheetla Mata Road, posing as auditors and showing a fake auditor ID to the security guard. One of the individuals was armed. The suspects brandished the weapon, robbed the office, and assaulted two employees, including assistant manager Krishna, with the butt of the gun, causing minor injuries,' a police spokesperson said Saturday night. The office, which offers loans against gold, confirmed that the stolen cash and gold were insured. Police teams from the Sector 5 station and other units remained at the scene late into the night, conducting investigations. Further details were not immediately available. The incident recalls previous high-profile robberies in India where criminals disguised themselves as government officials to gain access. In 2017, Delhi police arrested three suspected members of the Neeraj Bawania gang after they allegedly posed as CBI officers and attempted to rob a jeweller's home in Karol Bagh, an operation inspired by the Bollywood film Special 26. In that case, the suspects, one dressed in a khaki uniform, held the family at gunpoint before fleeing when a resident raised an alarm. In 2023, a dacoity gang in Hyderabad carried out a similar heist, posing as Income Tax officers and stealing gold worth Rs 60 lakh from a jewellery manufacturer in Secunderabad. That robbery, also modelled after Special 26, involved suspects showing fake ID cards, seizing workers' phones and locking them in a room before escaping with 17 gold coins. Police in Gurgaon said they are examining whether Saturday's heist bears similarities to those earlier cases.

Kangana Ranaut Reacts To Claim That She Dates 'Married Men With Kids', Says They Hit On Her

Kangana Ranaut said that in our society, people always find a way to blame women. Kangana Ranaut never shies away from opening up about her life and is known for never mincing her words. As such, her romantic life often grabs everyone's attention just as much as her professional endeavours. Many years ago, Kangana Ranaut was reportedly involved with Aditya Pancholi. The actor was married and had kids with Zarina Wahab. Years later, she claimed to have dated Hrithik Roshan, who also has two sons. As such, many trolls said that she was 'going after married men' who have kids. In a recent chat with Hauterrfly, Kangana addressed this allegation and reflected on how society is always quick to judge and blame a woman. She stated, 'When you are young and ambitious, and a married man with kids hits on you, it's you who are falling for someone in a relationship." She said, 'It's not the man's fault. People always find a way to blame the women in the situation. Look at the rape victims who get blamed for wearing certain types of clothes or being out late at night. All these are markers of the wrong mentality." Kangana Ranaut's Dating Life: Aditya Pancholi, Hrithik Roshan Aditya Pancholi was reportedly having an affair with Kangana in the early 2000s. However, in 2019, Kangana filed an FIR against Aditya. She accused him of abuse and rape. According to an India Today report, Kangana claimed she also approached Zarina for help. PTI reported that Aditya challenged her case in the Bombay High Court. Kangana was only 17 years old when they reportedly got involved, and so Aditya was accused of grooming her. 'It was a very difficult and very harsh time. I was physically abused. I don't have to go into details. I felt trapped. You feel people might help you. But there are no free lunches. But when you are going, you fall for it. This man, who was my father's age, hit me hard on my head when I was 17. I started bleeding. I took out my sandal and hit his head hard, and he started to bleed too. I lodged an FIR against the man," Kangana said, seemingly referring to Aditya, as quoted by Bollywood Shaadis. The India Today report quoted Kangana saying, 'I'm a year younger than his daughter. I was a minor. For me, this was all very new – the world that I had come into. I remember going to his wife and meeting her, and I'm like, 'Please save me! I'm younger than your daughter. I'm a minor and I can't tell my parents.'" As for Hrithik Roshan, the actress has often claimed that the two dated during the filming of Krrish 3. Hrithik had been long divorced by then. However, the actor has denied Kangana's claim on several occasions. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Hrithik had said, 'There is no legal case that I directly have with the lady (Kangana), and the reason I cannot have one is because apparently a guy cannot be stalked in India." Kangana's Bollywood Journey Kangana made her acting debut with Anurag Basu's Gangster in 2006, produced by Mahesh Bhatt. She went on to appear in films like Woh Lamhe (2006) and Life In a Metro (2007) before landing the milestone project Fashion (2008) directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, for which she won her first National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her career reached new heights with Queen (2014) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), earning multiple accolades and establishing her as one of Bollywood's most respected actresses. Kangana has won four National Awards in total and continues to take on diverse projects. She was last seen in Emergency, a film she directed, co-produced, and wrote, further proving her versatility in the industry. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. He Was In Illicit Affair With ‘Chachi' Who Had 4-Yr-Old Girl. Yrs Later He Raped That Same ‘Baby' Cousin

Last Updated: Police say a 33-year-old man was arrested for killing his aunt's daughter on the same day she tied him a Rakhi. Raksha Bandhan is a festival that honours the bond between brothers and sisters, but an incident from Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh has shocked many. Police say a 33-year-old man was arrested for killing his aunt's daughter on the same day she tied him a Rakhi. As per the investigation, after the celebration, the man, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, assaulted his nephew while she was asleep and later strangled her. Amar Ujala reports also revealed that the accused had also been involved with the victim's mother ten years earlier. Over the years, their strained relationship had created disputes between the two families. The family tried to separate the two, but neither agreed to change their behaviour. Almost eight years ago, the family decided to marry the accused to a woman from Etawah, which created more distance between him and his aunt. During the investigation, the man admitted this. He also told officers that his uncle suffers from a respiratory illness. Recalling events from 2015, when he was 23 years old, he said his aunt, who is the mother of the teenage girl, had once called him to her home for some work. During that time, the accused and his aunt began a physical relationship, which went on for two years. Due to his regular visits, family members started to suspect something and his uncle caught them together. The family tried to make them end the relationship, but they refused and in 2017, the man married another woman. After this, both families stopped speaking to each other about the matter. Meanwhile, the girl's father had filed a police complaint against him and five others. Bidhuna Kotwal Mukesh Babu Chauhan explained that the accused and the teenage girl were from the same community, which had only seven families living in their village. On the night of Raksha Bandhan, when the crime took place, the accused's wife was away in her parents' home in Etawah, along with their two children. During the postmortem, hairs were found in the teenager's nails and hands. Police have collected these samples to compare them with the 33-year-old man's hair. The samples have been sent to the forensic science lab in Jhansi for the DNA tests. Investigators are confident that this evidence will help ensure justice for the victim and they will will be able to punish the man soon. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
