Squid Game's Gong Yoo Cleared In Harassment Case, Woman Sentenced For False Allegations
Last Updated: South Korean actor Gong Yoo was exonerated after a woman falsely accused him of harassment. The Daejeon District Court sentenced her to six months in prison. South Korean actor Gong Yoo has been legally exonerated after a woman who falsely accused him of harassment was found guilty of defamation. The case, which garnered significant public interest, concluded on July 29 with the Daejeon District Court's Criminal Division 5 issuing a suspended sentence to the defendant. Identified only as 'A', the woman in her 40s was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years of probation. The court held her accountable for violating South Korea's Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilisation and Information Protection. Between January 2020 and March 2021, the woman posted 235 defamatory statements across various online platforms, falsely alleging that Gong Yoo was threatening and harassing her. One of the most notable incidents occurred during a live broadcast by Gong Yoo in January 2020, where the woman commented: 'I'm being threatened from behind, and there isn't a single day I haven't been threatened." She further claimed: 'He torments me to the point of neurosis." Following an investigation, authorities confirmed that there was no personal connection between the actor and the accused, and all her claims were found to be fabricated. The court remarked: 'The claims made by A are completely groundless and, beyond that, she repeatedly spread false information over a long period." Highlighting the impact of such misinformation on public figures, the court noted: 'Even though the victim is a public figure and naturally subject to public attention, the nature of the crime is very serious." The woman's prior criminal history also played a role in the proceedings. 'Although the defendant has two prior convictions for similar offenses, her acknowledgment of the crime and her intention to receive treatment at a hospital were taken into account in sentencing," the court explained. Gong Yoo, known for roles in Goblin, Train to Busan, and Squid Game, has not publicly commented on the verdict. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Isha Koppikar On Intense Chandralekha Scene: ‘Nagarjuna Slapped Me 14 Times, I Had Bruises'
Last Updated: Bollywood actress Isha Koppikar shared a story from her second film, Chandralekha, where she asked co-star Nagarjuna to slap her for real to capture genuine anger. Ating can be a tough gig, especially when you're taking real slaps for the sake of art! Isha Koppikar recently took us down memory lane, sharing a rather painful story from one of her earliest films, Chandralekha. While chatting with Hindi Rush, the actor revealed that during the shoot, she asked her co-star Nagarjuna to slap her for real. And, well… he ended up doing it 14 times! 'I got slapped by Nagarjuna," Isha said, laughing about it now. 'I was a fully committed actor that I want to perform in a real, method way. So when he was slapping me, I couldn't feel it. This was my second film, so I told him, 'Nag, you really slap me.' He said, 'Are you sure? No, I can't.' I said, 'I want that feeling. I am not feeling it right now.' So he slapped me, but softly." But that wasn't enough for the camera or her director who still couldn't catch the right expression of rage on Isha's face. So, what followed was an unexpected slap marathon. 'In an attempt to look angry, I got slapped 14 times. At the end, I literally had slap marks on my face," she added. 'Bechara mujhe leke baitha, bola sorry. I said, 'I asked for it, why are you saying sorry?'" Chandralekha, a remake of the Malayalam film by Priyadarshan, marked Isha's debut as a lead actor in Telugu cinema. The Krishna Vamsi directorial also starred Ramya Krishnan, Murali Mohan, and Tanikella Bharani alongside Nagarjuna. Now more selective about her roles, Isha was last seen in the 2024 sci-fi adventure Ayalaan with Sivakarthikeyan and Rakul Preet Singh. The film did well at the box office, collecting Rs76.5 crore globally. Isha Koppikar, born on 19 September 1976, is an Indian actress, politician, and model. While she is best known for her work in Hindi cinema, she has also appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi films. She began her acting career in South Indian films in the late 1990s before shifting her focus to Bollywood in the early 2000s. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
