Shreveport's ongoing efforts to address taste, odor problems
The City of Shreveport Water Department stated the issue was due to elevated Geosmin, a naturally occurring compound produced by algae in Cross Lake', which they continue to treat multiple times.
'The Water and Sewerage Department is actively monitoring Geosmin concentrations and making adjustments as needed to restore the water's taste and odor to normal levels,' states Shreveport's Water and Sewerage Department (SWSD).

They say the department is 'aggressively treating the water to resolve the issue' and continues working with outside experts to identify the most effective strategies for managing it.
'It is believed that the elevated Geosmin levels are related to a lake turnover similar to the one experienced this summer, which also caused higher-than-normal manganese levels and higher-than-normal water temperatures. A lake turnover occurs when nutrients from the bottom of the lake rise to the surface, which likely triggered the current algae spike as a delayed effect' SWSD states, 'Cross Lake is a shallow body of water, and that alone presents many complex treatment challenges. '
The department stresses that they will continue to flush water pipes to improve the distribution of newly treated water throughout the city.
If customers are still experiencing odor or taste issues, contact the Department of Waterand Sewerage at 318-673-7600.

Thursday weather: Storms with heavy rain again possible
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Showers and thunderstorms returned to most of the ArkLaTex on Wednesday with some locally heavy rain. Expect much of the same on Thursday with daytime temperatures that will be below normal for this time of year. Thursday rain timing: Hi-res models, including Futurecast, show that we will likely see the rain impacting the ArkLaTex on decrease and gradually end on Wednesday night. Our next round of showers and thunderstorms will move into the area Thursday morning and move across the area during the day. A few of the storms could be strong with some gusty winds. SPC indicates that we will see a level 1 marginal severe risk. If we have any severe weather issues, damaging winds will be the main concern. Flooding will likely be a bigger concern as hi-res models are suggesting that parts of the area could see four to over SIX inches of rain! Thursday temperatures: Models indicate that the expected showers and thunderstorms on Thursday will arrive a bit earlier in the day. Consequently, temperatures will likely not have as much time to warm up. Lows will begin in the 60s and low 70s. Daytime highs will only warm into the low to middle 80s. Rest of the week: The chance of showers and thunderstorms will decrease a little on Friday and this weekend as the main upper-level disturbance moves into the middle of the country. Temperatures will begin to warm back up. Daytime highs will return to the lower 90s by the end of the weekend and the middle 90s by the middle of next week. Overnight lows will remain in the 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
