Time of India22-07-2025
Lucknow: Ahead of the review officer (RO) and assistant review officer (ARO) examination on July 27, the Uttar Pradesh govt and Public Service Commission have put in place unprecedented security measures to ensure that the exam is conducted with complete fairness and transparency.
To prevent any malpractice, Special Task Force (STF) of UP Police, intelligence agencies and police department have been assigned key responsibilities.
The STF has been specifically directed to monitor sensitive exam centres identified prior to the examination. The Yogi govt has also issued strict instructions to track and monitor individuals with a history of disrupting the integrity of exams, including notorious cheating syndicates.
Those previously involved in examination-related crimes and currently out on bail will be kept under special surveillance.
Additionally, the STF will keep a close watch on social media platforms, including open forums as well as WhatsApp and Telegram. Dedicated teams will also monitor coaching institutes during the examination period, and any suspicious activities will be immediately reported to the concerned agencies.
Police forces will be deployed at every exam centre to maintain peace and conduct strict frisking of candidates to ensure no banned items are carried inside. Armed guards and senior officers will be present throughout the process — from taking confidential exam papers out of the treasury to dispatching answer sheets after the exam.
The exam will be held in all 75 districts of the state on July 27 in a single shift from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

Cops arrest man in Rs 1.98 crore online trading fraud

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrimes police have apprehended a 50-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh involved in a sophisticated online trading fraud, where he allegedly cheated a victim out of Rs 1.98 crore. Police arrested Aman Pal Singh. According to police, a complaint was received from a Hyderabad resident who stated that cyber fraudsters contacted him via Facebook. While browsing Facebook, the victim encountered a link related to alleged employees and senior advisors of 'Barclays Wealth Management' and 'UP Asset Allocation Z06.' These individuals invited the victim to join their purported companies, 'Private Wealth Management' and 'UPSTOX,' claiming they offered high-quality stock recommendations with significant profit potential. The victim was subsequently added to a WhatsApp group, where scammers guided him to invest in specific stocks, IPOs, and OTC (Over-The-Counter) stocks, which the victim followed in good faith. The invested amount, along with false profits, was displayed on a fake website. However, the withdrawal feature was later disabled. When the victim attempted to withdraw funds, the fraudsters demanded additional payments under the pretext of taxation and currency conversion charges, assuring him that only after these charges were paid would the invested amount be released. The victim ultimately lost Rs 1,98,25,000. The cybercrime police stated that Aman Pal Singh procures current bank accounts from his agents in Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi, which are then used in investment frauds. After these bank accounts are utilised in fraudulent activities, he would assemble with account holders and account suppliers at various hotels in Greater Noida, New Delhi, to disburse their share of the money as commission, based on the bank statements.

Cop loses ₹7.50L after downloading malicious APK file from Mohall Committee group

MUMBAI: A 36-year-old police constable from Trombay police station downloaded a malicious Android Application Package (APK) file shared in a Mohalla Committee WhatsApp group. Hackers used his credentials to take a loan and transferred the ₹7.58 lakh of the sanctioned loan to themselves. The Trombay police registered a case against the unidentified hacker under charges of cyber fraud and criminal conspiracy. The complainant, Constable Sachin Kashid, said he was part of a WhatsApp group named Mohalla Committee Trombay. The officers coordinated with community members in the jurisdiction through the group. On July 22, a message was sent in the group containing a link titled 'RTO from an unsaved number. Assuming it could be something important, he clicked on the link but was quickly preoccupied with other work and ignored it. Two hours later, he received a message stating a loan of ₹7.58 lakh was credited to his salary account. A few minutes later, he received two messages, one after another, stating ₹4,99,007.08 and ₹2,55,007.08 were debited from his account, respectively. Both transfers happened through a payment system identified as CCAHPPAY. Kashid realised that he had been duped by cyber fraud and immediately called the cyber helpline number 1930 to file his complaint. On July 27, he followed up and learnt that the cyber police had not registered his complaint due to a technical error, so he filed a complaint again that day. The complainant alleged that the hacker also forged electronic documents in his name. During verification, the cyber police found that the malicious file was sent by a group member who is well respected in the area. The police called him and got to know that his phone too had been compromised by a similar APK file, and he had no knowledge of sending the file in the group. The Trombay police registered a case against the unidentified hacker under charges of cyber fraud and criminal conspiracy.
