Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Mangalsutra, toe rings raised police suspicion about Sonam

Shillong, June 10 (UNI) Meghalaya Police became suspicious about Sonam Raghuvanshi, now the prime accused behind the cold-blooded murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, after the discovery of her mangalsutra and toe ring from a suitcase. Sonam's mangalsutra and toe ring were found in the suitcase which was left by the couple in Manha hotel in Saitsohpen, Sohra. The couple left their luggage at the Manha Hotel after they couldn't secure a room and left the hotel premises. With Raja and Sonam remaining incommunicado since May 23, the newlywed couple's family members landed in Sohra and filed a missing complaint at the Sohra Police Station. 'It was during our search for the two missing tourists (Raja and Sonam) that we were informed by the hotel owner about the luggage left in the Manha hotel. When we searched the luggage, we found the mangalsutra and the toe rings from it,' a police official told UNI on condition of anonymity. 'Yes, we started suspecting Sonam after we found her mangalsutra and toe rings, which she left behind in the luggage in Manha hotel, just a few weeks after her marriage … which is odd for a newlywed Hindu woman,' the police official said. Mangalsutra is an ornament that symbolises marriage and is worn around the neck and the toe rings are worn on the second toe of both the feet and generally these ornaments are not taken off by a married woman. With the recovery of Raja's body on June 2 from a deep gorge, Meghalaya police registered a murder case and formed a Special Investigation Team to probe Raja's murder. 'Based on substantial evidence against Sonam's conspirators over the past week, we dispatched the SIT to go to Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh with firm evidence and arrest the suspects,' the police official said. Sonam was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) code-named 'Operation Honeymoon' of Meghalaya Police on Monday after she voluntarily surrendered at the Nanganj Police Station in Ghazipur district on Sunday night. The SIT also arrested three suspects—Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi — who allegedly hacked Raja to death with a machete and Sonam's alleged boyfriend, Raj Singh Kushwaha was in constant touch with Sonam via a mobile phone. 'The motive behind the murder will emerge once we start interrogating all five accused the exact reason behind the cold-blooded murder of Raja,' the police official said. UNI RRK SSP

10 people, mostly students, killed in mass shooting in Austrian school, several injured

Graz, June 10 (UNI) At least 10 people, mostly students, were killed and several were badly injured in a shooting incident in a secondary school in the Austrian city of Graz. The suspected shooter reportedly committed suicide later in one of the school's toilets. As per The New York Times, Austria's elite COBRA police forces along with a police helicopter, arrived at the crime scene after shots were reported. The mayor of Graz, Elke Kahr, said that the suspected shooter, several students and another adult, thought to be a teacher, were among the fatalities in the attack, the deadliest in Austria's postwar history. The Austrian Press Agency reported that as many as 30 people were injured. According to preliminary reports, the perpetrator was a 22-year-old ex-student who had described himself as a victim of bullying in the past. He reportedly fired shots in two classrooms, using a pistol and a shotgun, killing and injuring multiple pupils and teachers. The dead reportedly included seven pupils and one adult. The incident occurred at about 10am local time (0900 BST). Ninety minutes later police said there was 'no further danger' after a major security operation involving special forces and police helicopters. The Austrian Chancellor, Christian Stocker, condemning the incident wrote on X 'The shooting rampage at a school in Graz is a national tragedy that has deeply shaken our entire country.' Austria's President, Alexander Van der Bellen, said: 'What happened today … strikes our country at the heart. These were young people who had their whole lives ahead of them. A teacher who accompanied them on their journey.' Families gathered at a nearby sports hall where crisis intervention teams were on hand. The area around the school was cordoned off and public transport was diverted, with all streets surrounding the school guarded by armed officers. A spokesperson for the Austrian Red Cross told the public broadcaster ORF that more than 160 responders were at the scene, including emergency doctors and paramedics. Two information points were available for the school's students and relatives. Austria last experienced a major mass attack such as this more than a decade ago, when a Bosnian man killed three people and wounded about three dozen others after driving a car into crowds on the streets of the city and then attacking bystanders with a knife.

HP : Kasauli rape case reopened against Haryana BJP president

Solan, June 10 (UNI) Haryana BJP president Mohanlal Badauli's troubles do not seem to be ending. A rape case against the BJP leader has been reopened. The complainant had alleged that she has not got justice and she will take her battle to its logical end. Notably, the case was closed after the Cancellation Report (CR) in the court following lack of evidence in the rape case registered in police station Kasauli against Badauli and Rocky Mittal. However, the case has now been challenged by the complainant in the session court. The complainant's lawyer filed a revision in this on Tuesday urging the court to initiate needed legal proceedings. After this, the court has fixed the next date of hearing on July 7, for further course of action. It may be recalled that a woman, resident of Delhi, had lodged a complaint in the Kasauli police station (Kasauli Rape Case) in December last year that Mohan Lal Badauli and Rocky Mittal had allegedly raped her in a hotel in Kasauli in the month of July, 2023.
