A native of Arpakkam village in Kancheepuram, this 31-year-old officer, who regularly meets police personnel to address their grievances, has so far devised at least five initiatives — Public Feedback Centre, Village Monitoring Scheme, Nimir (The Rising Team), Manam Thiranthu (Mind Opens), and Vettri Pathai (Path to Success) — for the general public as well as police personnel.
Spotting the rise in crimes against children and women in the district, the SP, who had earlier served as the deputy commissioner in Coimbatore (North), began prioritising the safety of women and children. This led to the birth of 'Nimir', an intensive Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act awareness team comprising trained women police personnel. The team visits villages and interior areas to spread awareness among women and children, and helps them access victims' compensation and other benefits. The team, so far, has prevented three child marriages within the span of a few months.
'My father Ramakrishnan, a farmer, was the one who motivated me to become an IPS officer and serve the society. He used to frequently visit book fairs and purchase books for me,' recollects Stalin.
In a bid to ensure public grievances are addressed appropriately, the SP, who never fails to receive petitions at his office, created a public feedback centre in the District Police Petition unit manned by police personnel. The centre dials each and every petitioner and asks for feedback regarding their petitions or inquires. If a petitioner is not satisfied, then the petition will be assigned to a different inquiry officer. 'The SP has received over 4,500 petitions directly within five months,' said a police officer.

Man shoots self after killing his son, mom
Varanasi: A 32-year-old man, Neeraj Pandey , shot himself after opening fire on his mother, son, and daughter in Jahanaganj area of Azamgarh district on Tuesday afternoon. His mother Chandrakala (55), and son Sangharsh Pandey (4) were killed, while daughter Shubhi Pandey (7) was under treatment. Azamgarh SP Hemraj Meena said that the pistol used in the crime was recovered. Initial investigation revealed that Pandey worked at a petrol pump in Varanasi. His wife and children arrived in the village last week, while he returned home from Varanasi on Monday night. The SP said that on Tuesday afternoon, Pandey returned home in inebriated state. Following some family dispute, he opened fire on his mother and children before shooting himself. Pandey and his mother died on the spot while both the children were rushed to a local hospital, said the official. Upon noticing a sharp deterioration in their health condition, doctors referred the duo to the district hospital. Upon reaching there, doctors declared Sangharsh brought dead. The girl suffered a bullet injury in the stomach, but her condition as stated to be stable. The actual reason behind the incident would become clear after a detailed investigation, said the SP, adding that the bodies were sent for postmortem examination. Pandey's father said that after returning from the district headquarters, he sought water from his daughter-in-law hen heard the sound of firing. He assumed that it was the sound of firecrackers. However, when his daughter-in-law entered the house she screamed upon seeing Pandey and her children lying in a pool of blood. Hearing her scream, their neighbours reached there and rushed all the four to a hospital in Jahanaganj. Man held for consuming drugs in Naharlagun
Itanagar: A 23-year-old man has been arrested for possession of contraband from the Damsite area in Naharlagun, the police said on Tuesday. Acting on reliable input regarding possession of suspected contraband, a police team led by inspector K Dev and others under the supervision of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo carried out a targeted operation. During the raid, the police apprehended Techi Lala, a resident of Rakap village, Papum Pare district, while he was consuming narcotic substances, Naharlagun SP Dr Nyelam Nega said. He said a search of the accused, conducted in compliance with Section 50 of the NDPS Act and in the presence of executive magistrate Khoda Bath, led to the recovery of a used syringe, an empty vial, and a half-used plastic vial containing suspected heroin. Police further searched the accused vehicle which resulted in the recovery of 15 plastic vials containing heroin weighing 18.8 grams including vials, concealed under the seat. A case under Section 21(b)/27/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered against Lala at Naharlagun police station and the accused has been taken into custody for further legal action, the SP said. The SP, while reiterating the department's firm stance against drug-related activities, has appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and support the police in the fight against narcotics to ensure a safer and drug-free society. One injured in group clash
Chhapra: Two groups clashed over a minor dispute between two kids on Monday night at Dighwara under the same PS in Saran district. A person was injured in the clash. Saran SSP Kumar Ashish said on Tuesday that till eight people have been taken into custody. The injured was admitted to primary health centre at Dighwara and PMCH, Patna. According to Saran SSP, the Police swung into action immediately after the information was received and the situation was completely under control.
