Recent death
The death took place on April 30 of Patrick Christopher Coleman, Knutsfield, Cheshire a native of Lisaballely, Gurteen. He was brother of the late Mary Igoe, James ( Jimmy) and Thady (Ted) Coleman. His Funeral Mass was on Wednesday May 28. in St.Vincent de Paul's, Knutsford. May he rest in Peace.

The First Holy Communion for Cloonloo two pupils was held in Cloonloo Church on last Saturday May 17 and the following day Sunday 18 for thirteen pupils in St. Patrick's Church, Gurteen at the 11.30am Mass.

New Qualification Rules came into force earlier this year so you may qualify especially if you are over 50 Years and Unemployed for over 12 Months.

All patrons of Merville Community Centre are asked to exercise caution when driving in the area when on drop off and pick up, as these times can be extremely busy both at the centre and in the locality. Best practice would be to drop off and pick up outside the centre where possible. Be especially aware of pedestrians crossing at the centre entrance and exit. Think safe!

Merville Community Centre facilitate on behalf of our Community the provision to eligible persons of Social Monitored Pendant Alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme that is administered by POBAL.
Equipment Funding is available for eligible persons over 65 years for the installation of an monitored alarm on a landline in the person's home. The alarms are now available for persons aged 65 or older and living alone, living with another person who meets the terms and conditions, living alone for significant periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household.
First year monitoring is free for all new applicants. Subsequent annual monitoring charges are then payable by the user. Other systems are available at various costs for those who do not possess a landline. Overall this monitoring product adds peace of mind for both the users, family and friends at minimal cost. Irish festival announces saunas and cold-water plunges to help music fans unwind
Thousands of festival-goers are set to unwind in saunas and cold-water plunges at Night and Day Festival. The Roscommon-based festival announced a full wellness programme to take place across the weekend, which kicks off on June 27 until 29. Festival-goers will be able to unwind and recharge at Night and Day with an expansive offering of wellness activities. Commenting on the announcement of the wellness programme, Carla and Olivia said: "Thank you to Night & Day for giving us this opportunity to participate and help organise the Wellness area. It has been a great experience, and we can't wait for the festival weekend to see it all put together and meet everyone." Night and Day co-founder Craig Hughes said: "We have wanted to enhance our wellness offering for some time so it is great to see it come to fruition. "Festivalgoers will be able to unwind and recharge each morning before dancing into the early hours each night!" Perched on the embankment overlooking Lough Key, Lough Allen adventures will be running their hot tub, sauna and cold plunge sessions. Ce Sauna will operate on the opposite side of the lake in a more secluded part of the festival. On Saturday morning, the wellness schedule will consist of Pilates by Aisling Dolan, Quantum Riki and sound healing experience with Bailey Barbour, a partner yoga and massage workshop by West Coast Wellness, followed by an outdoor yoga session with Nicole O'Kelly. On Sunday morning, Roscommon native Oisin O'Dowd will host a breathwork session followed by Restore and Flow yoga with Nicole O'Kelly. Attendees are required to bring their own yoga mats with them. Radiant Spaces will curate a calming chill out area for festivalgoers to unwind inside while looking out overlooking the tranquil Lough Key. Drogheda making ‘moves' to create a night-time cafe culture
Out of 1,238 respondents, 908 (73pc) expressed a desire to see late-night cafés, while 670 respondents called for additional non-alcoholic or alcohol-light options in the town centre. In response, a pilot programme titled Night Moves will see four local cafés – The Coffee Box, Il Forno, Loaf'd and The Bare Food Café – extend their opening hours on Friday, May 30 and Friday, June 20. These venues will host free, curated evenings of live music, poetry and spoken word performances, creating welcoming, relaxed spaces where people can enjoy the town differently. These cafés are championing a more diverse night-time offer and helping trial what a more balanced evening economy might look like. The initiative is part of a wider cultural programme produced by Droichead Arts Centre and curated by singer-songwriter SJ McArdle, in collaboration with Drogheda's Night-Time Economy Adviser and supported by the local Purple Flag group. 'This is an inspiring step forward, and it's coming straight from what people told us,' said Mark Davies, Night-Time Economy Adviser for Drogheda at Louth County Council. 'It's not about replacing anything - our pubs and bars are a vital part of Drogheda's nightlife - it's about adding to the mix and creating the kind of town centre where more people want to spend time.' The idea builds on a smaller trial during Night Moves Culture Night 2024, when two cafés opened late with artistic performances. One, Il Forno, hosted a pop-up opera night, and people stayed long after the last note was sung. The other, The Coffee Box, has continued to trial later events. Collette Farrell, Director of Droichead Arts Centre, said: 'There's something special about seeing familiar places take on a new energy after dark. These events are about working with local businesses and artists to bring warmth, creativity, connection, and a sense of possibility to the town at night.' Across Ireland, Night-Time Economy Advisers are testing ways to help towns adapt and thrive between 6pm and 6am. The Night Moves cafés are supported by the Drogheda Purple Flag group – a vibrant local partnership that brings together businesses, artists and public sector teams. It includes hospitality venues, Drogheda and District Chamber, Love Drogheda BID, Droichead Arts Centre, and various departments within Louth County Council, who host and support the work of the Night-Time Economy Adviser.
