The Detailed Project Report (DPR) to widen the 18-km stretch between Jayankondam and Madhanathur and the 12-km stretch between Madhanathur and Kumbakonam is under the consideration of the State government, said Minister for Public Works and Highways E.V. The Minister was responding to a question by Jayankondam MLA Ka.So.Ka. Kannan who sought to widen the existing two-way lane into a four-way lane between Jayankondam to Kumbakonam. Mr. Velu said under the Chief Minister Road Development Programme (CMRDP), the two-way lane for a stretch of 48 km between Vriddachalam and Jayankondam had been converted into a four-way lane at a cost of ₹200 crore. The stretch was made available for public use.
Similarly, the DPR to convert the 30-km stretch between Jayankondam to Kumbakonam is under the State government's consideration and it will be taken up on a priority basis under the Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project (TNRSP), he added.

Stadium stampede: Ktk Opposition Leader demands Special Assembly Session, Rs 1 Cr Compensation

Bengaluru, June 8 (UNI) Karnataka Opposition Leader R Ashok on Sunday demanded a special session of the Assembly to deliberate on the Chinnaswamy stadium stampede. Addressing a press conference here, Ashok said the House should also discuss the Congress-led government's failures that cost 11 lives ahead of IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations on Wednesday. 'Three separate inquiries have been ordered – which one is genuine? We demand a judicial probe headed by a sitting High Court judge,' he insisted. Ashok also called for enhanced compensation for the victims' families. 'If the government is truly not at fault, it should give Rs 1 crore per family. As opposition leaders, we will contribute our one month's salary to the families,' he announced. Dismissing the justification for such a grand event, Ashok added, 'Winning a trophy is not new. Other states have won before. But no other CM has ever used such events for cheap publicity.' He accused the state government of flouting police instructions and thereby breaking the law, which led to the stampede. Ashok alleged that the tragedy could have been averted had Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar not been engrossed in a power tussle. 'Instead of mourning the loss of innocent students, they were chasing a trophy. The police had informed the government of a casualty by noon, and yet the programme went on even after eight children had died. This shows how stone-hearted the government is,' he charged. Ashok cited a letter dated June 4, from the Vidhana Soudha police to the Chief Secretary, warning that the programme was being hastily organised, with inadequate staff and serious security concerns. The letter had recommended cancelling the event, yet the government proceeded, he alleged. He further stated that police had clearly instructed against the participation of department staff and their families, but the directive was ignored. 'CCTV deployment was skipped, drones were flown despite prohibition, and the stage – which was to accommodate only 20–30 people – ended up hosting over 200, including 11 players,' he said. Ashok pointed out that while the event was officially listed as a government function, CM Siddaramaiah later disowned it, claiming it was not a government-organised event. 'This doublespeak is unacceptable,' he said. UNI BDN SSP

Rejected by people, now rejecting mandate: Fadnavis fires back at Rahul Gandhi

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his allegations of poll rigging in the state during the Assembly elections, accusing him of repeatedly insulting the democratic process, despite being "rejected by people".'Rahul Gandhi consistently insults the democratic process. He repeatedly disrespects the public mandate. People have rejected Rahul Gandhi, and in retaliation, he is rejecting the people. This will only push the Congress party further into decline,' Fadnavis a newspaper article on Saturday, Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, claimed that the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections were a "blueprint for rigging democracy" and alleged that this "match-fixing" would next happen in Bihar. The Election Commission swiftly rejected the charge, saying that defaming the poll panel after an unfavourable verdict was "absolutely absurd". Fadnavis, in a news article on Sunday, questioned Gandhi, asking, 'By constantly casting doubts on the democratic process and constitutional institutions, where is this leading the country? What kind of poison is being spread?'In the Assembly polls, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory, winning 235 of the 288 seats. None of the parties in the Maha Vikas Aghadi -- Congress with 16 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) with 20 seats, and NCP (SP) with 10 seats -- secured enough seats to claim the position of Leader of the Opposition, a first in six understand how deeply the defeat in Maharashtra must have hurt. But if you continue to insult the will of the farmers, women, citizens, and the people of Maharashtra like this, then the people of the state will never forgive you. As the Chief Minister and a servant of the people, I will always condemn such an insult to the people of Maharashtra,' Fadnavis also alleged that Gandhi is already preparing excuses for future defeats in upcoming Assembly elections, including in InMust Watch IN THIS STORY#Rahul Gandhi#Devendra Fadnavis

Revanth Reddy Expands Telangana Cabinet, 3 Ministers Sworn-In

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday expanded his Cabinet by inducting three ministers. G Vivek Venkataswamy, Adluri Laxman Kumar and Vakiti Srihari were sworn in as ministers by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and senior officials attended the ceremony. Vivek took oath in English while the remaining two were sworn in Telugu. This is the first expansion in the Cabinet, which was formed on December 7, 2023, with the swearing-in of the Chief Minister and 11 ministers. The long-delayed expansion took place after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) cleared the names of three ministers. Though there are vacancies in the Cabinet, the party leadership decided to keep three posts vacant. The state can have a maximum of 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister. Vivek Venkataswamy, a former MP and son of former Union Minister G. Venkataswamy, and Government Whip Adluri Laxman are from the Scheduled Castes, while Srihari is from the Backward Classes. Ramachandru Naik is a tribal MLA. Venkataswamy, an industrialist, had quit the BJP to join Congress a few weeks before the 2023 Assembly elections. He was elected to Parliament in 2009 from the Peddapalli constituency. He later joined TRS (now BRS) to put pressure on the Congress over the demand for statehood for Telangana. After the Telangana Bill was passed in the Parliament in 2014, he returned to Congress. He again returned to the TRS in 2016. In 2019, he resigned as advisor to the Telangana government and quit the ruling party after he was denied a ticket to contest from the Peddapalli Lok Sabha seat. He joined the BJP, which he quit again in November 2023 to return to Congress. He was elected to the Assembly from Chennur constituency in Mancherial district in 2023, defeating sitting MLA Balka Suman of BRS. Adluri Laxman Kumar is a senior Congress leader and first-time MLA from Dharmapuri in Jagitial district. Srihari, who began his political career as a Youth Congress leader, has also been associated with Congress for over three decades. He was elected to the Assembly from the Makthal Assembly constituency in Narayanpet district. Earlier, the Chief Minister also announced that Ramachandra Naik will be appointed as Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. He is an MLA from Dornakal constituency in Mahabubabad district.
