NEW DELHI: Congress leader Udit Raj suggested on Tuesday that the timing of the encounter with the terrorist involved in the Pahalgam attack could have been orchestrated to coincide with the Parliament debate on
, calling it "event management."

Speaking to news agency ANI, Udit Raj speculated that the terrorist might have already been in custody, with the armed forces instructed to delay action until the day of the debate.
"They have tied the hands of the army many times—otherwise, Pakistan would have been in a very bad state by now. Our army could have possibly even taken PoK. So, it's very likely that the army was told not to act earlier, and the terrorist was killed today—because the army is under pressure from them," Raj said.
He added, "Even though the army is doing excellent work, when one army officer said they weren't allowed to take action, and then today the terrorist involved in the Pahalgam attack was neutralised—it raises the possibility that this was timed to coincide with the Parliament debate on Operation Sindoor. Maybe the terrorist was already in custody and they waited to kill him today as part of event management. Why wasn't he killed earlier? Why wasn't he caught before? Where are the rest?"
This comes after Indian Army's elite para commandos on Monday gunned down the alleged mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack, along with two of his associates, in an encounter in a forest area on the outskirts of Srinagar in Kashmir.
Officials said Sulieman alias Asif, believed to be the mastermind of the April 22 attack, was killed after the security forces launched a surprise operation, codenamed 'Operation Mahadev', following a technical signal indicating the use of a satellite phone by the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack.
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha began discussion on Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The debate was initiated by Defence Minister

Singh took a swipe at the opposition during the discussion in the Lok Sabha, stating that focus must not remain on small issues when aiming to achieve a greater goal, as it could divert attention from national security.
"When the aim is to go higher, we should not pay attention to small issues, because focusing on comparatively smaller matters can divert attention from national security," Singh said while addressing the lower house of Parliament.
The Rajya Sabha will meet again today for a 16-hour discussion on Operation Sindoor. According to sources, Rajnath Singh and S. Jaishankar will be among the ministers participating in the discussion in the Rajya Sabha. PM Modi is also expected to intervene in the discussion.
The largest opposition party, Congress, has been allotted approximately two hours for the discussion. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge will open the debate for them.

Faridabad: Two held from MP for ₹49.4 lakh cyber fraud

Faridabad police arrested two suspects from Madhya Pradesh on Friday for their alleged involvement in a cyber fraud case of ₹49.48 lakh that took place with a resident of IP Colony in Faridabad in December last year, said police on Sunday. The duo was arrested from their respective native places on Friday. The victim had received a WhatsApp call regarding investment in the stock market to earn hefty profits. Following this, the victim kept transferring money to the bank accounts provided by the suspects assuming that he was investing money in the stock market but in reality, they were being remitted to various other mule accounts. After failing to withdraw the profits, he realised that he was duped and submitted a written complaint at Cyber (central) police station in Faridabad on December 10 last year following which police registered an FIR and launched an investigation. Police officials said that the suspects were identified as Sukhdev Kumar, 25, of Gopalpura in Morena and Siddharth Singh, 27, of Bhind, adding that Kumar worked as a cab driver while Singh was a principal of a private school in his hometown. 'Out of the total amount of ₹49.48 lakh defrauded from a resident, ₹10.1 lakh was credited into the bank account of Singh. Singh's bank account was serving as a mule account for the cyber fraudsters. Kumar had taken access to the account from Singh and had passed it on to other people involved in the scam,' said Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer, Faridabad police. Yadav said that they both used to receive commissions against the money credited into the mule account which was being duped from people across the country, adding that police are trying to gather details of the suspects to whom Kumar was passing the mule accounts. The duo was arrested from their respective native places on Friday and were produced before a court in Faridabad on Saturday following which Singh was forwarded to judicial custody while Kumar was taken on four-day police remand for detailed interrogation, said police.

Delhi: Mob stabs two students in Vijay Nagar, three arrested

A fourth suspect is absconding, officials said on Sunday. A fourth suspect is absconding, officials said on Sunday. (Representational image) The victims, aged 26 and 28 years and hailing from Manipur, were reportedly preparing for competitive examinations and had gone to a local shop around 4am to buy a water can and groceries. According to the FIR, the altercation began after a group of three to four young men — aged between 18 and 22 — arrived on two motorcycles without helmets and allegedly tried to push past the students at the shop counter. 'They used abusive language and tried to shove us aside. When we objected, one of them stabbed me in the abdomen and another attacked my friend on his left buttock with a knife,' one of the victims stated in the FIR. 'They fled on motorcycles after the assault. The attack seemed deliberate and carried out with the intent to kill,' the FIR added. Deputy commissioner of police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said the case was treated as sensitive, and special teams were deployed to track down the suspects. 'CCTV footage from nearby shops was analysed, and call detail records (CDRs) of suspected individuals were examined. Based on local intelligence and CDR analysis, a coordinated raid was conducted, leading to the arrest of three accused,' Singh said. The arrested have been identified as Krishna Babu, Krishna Kashyap, and a minor. The fourth suspect is still on the run, and efforts are on to nab him. During interrogation, police said the trio confessed to the assault, claiming it began after one of the students allegedly punched their friend. The knife used in the attack has also been recovered, officials said. While both victims are from Manipur, investigators have said there is no indication of it being a hate crime so far. 'It appears to be a dispute that escalated violently rather than a hate crime,' a police officer said, adding that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events.

Operation Sindoor flag, tiered seating among firsts at this year's event at Red Fort

A special flag to symbolically honour Operation Sindoor, an Under Vehicle Surveillance System (UVSS) amid heightened security measures, a tiered seating arrangement so that can guests can have a better view of the ceremony, and interlocking pavements for better movement of vehicles and visitors: these are the among the firsts for the Independence Day ceremony this year at Red Fort in Delhi. Operation Sindoor was initiated on May 7 this year in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 citizens. It showcased a calibrated, tri-services response, according to the government, and a targeted campaign to dismantle the terror infrastructure across the Line of Control (LoC) and deeper inside Pakistan. In a symbolic gesture, the valour of the forces will be highlighted during the celebrations on August 15 at the Red Fort, said officials. In the run-up to 79th Independence Day, the Delhi Police has already stepped up the security arrangements at the Red Fort. With the officers frp, the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) on senior police deployment, a two-layered ring security system has been put in place, starting Sunday. Around 15,000 personnel of the Delhi Police will be deployed at the Red Fort and the surrounding precinct, officers highlighted. Large-scale mock emergency exercises, hotel inspections, and increased patrolling are among the measures that are already being implemented, said officers. Snipers, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commandos, drones, and 700 AI-enabled CCTV cameras with facial recognition facility will also be a part of the security arrangements. Specialised cameras can count the visitors and lens blockers obstruct visual access to the high-security targets, said officers, elaborating on the arrangements. Along with the traditional undercarriage checks using a mirror, an officer said, the Delhi Police will be using the UVSS to scan the underside of the vehicles for hazardous substances. In another first, bleacher seating system or a tiered seating arrangement will be in place this time. The space-efficient seating system — which is seen in stadiums — will ensure that the guests can have a better and orderly view of the celebration, said officers. To curb logistical issues that plagued the ceremony in the last few years, such as waterlogging, the authorities have sought assistance from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to install interlocking pavements. This will help the authorities to accommodate up to 2,000 parked cars and ease pedestrian movement. On August 15, Delhi Police will also deploy 'kite-catchers' to make sure that stray kites do not move into restricted airspace over the Red Fort. The officers will be on high alert in a bid to ensure a clear flying zone.
