Manitoba cornfield chase leads to arrest of homicide suspect: RCMP
RCMP said they were called to a home in the town, north of Winnipeg, around 10:40 p.m. Sunday, where they found the victim with life-threatening injuries.
He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.
Police said they later spotted a suspect vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the driver led officers on a chase that ended when he drove into a cornfield.

RCMP Sgt. Paul Manaigre told 680 CJOB the chase wasn't a long one, and the 24-year-old suspect was tracked down quickly in the cornfield with the help of the Winnipeg police helicopter.
'He fled the vehicle very quickly,' Manaigre said, 'and with the use of a drone and Air1, they were able to get to him very quickly.

'Officers from our emergency response team attended and were able to enter the cornfield and arrest him without an incident.'
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, remains in custody while RCMP continue to investigate. Police said they're not looking for any additional suspects.

U.S. man arrested trying to illegally enter Canada by kayak: police
Police in the Ontario town of LaSalle say they arrested a man from the U.S. trying to illegally enter Canada by kayak early Wednesday morning. LaSalle Police Service said an officer encountered the man shortly before 1 a.m. while conducting commercial property checks near the Detroit River. 'While checking the rear of a business, (the officer) saw a man at the water's edge of the Detroit River with two backpacks and a kayak,' a police statement said. 'The officer investigated and discovered the man was attempting to illegally enter Canada.' Police said the 51-year-old man was detained and turned over to the RCMP for further investigation. The man was already within Canada's boundary when he was detained. The Detroit River serves as a marine border between Ontario and Michigan. The Ambassador Bridge, which is nine km away from where the man was arrested, serves as an economic and tourist connector between Windsor and Detroit. Arson team investigating house fire in southeast Calgary
The Calgary Fire Department's arson investigation team has been called in to try and determine the cause of a fire that damaged a home on Legacy Reach View in southeast Calgary early Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called out to the home around 5 a.m. When they arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and forced their way into the home, where they discovered a deceased dog. View image in full screen The Calgary fire department said they found a deceased dog inside a home on fire on Wednesday. Global News A CFD spokesperson told Global News that no people were home at the time, but fire crews were able to speak with someone who was believed to be looking after the home and it appears they were able to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived. 'My husband told me he saw police put someone (on the ground), we didn't know if they were arresting him or what happened,' Mehta said. 'There was lots of fire department (vehicles) here, lots of police here, the neighbours had a little dog.' Mehta and other people who live on the street say the family that lives in the home is currently out of the country. 'I always see them and their dog out, they take their dog for walks with my son. They're nice people.' Residents of several nearby homes were also temporarily forced to evacuate. So far, there's no word on what caused the fire.
