Homicide investigation underway after victim found dead at West Side playground
CHICAGO — An investigation is underway this week after a person was found dead at a West Side playground on Monday evening.
According to police, the victim, a female whose age is unknown, was found unresponsive at a park in the 3000 block of West Van Buren Street, in Garfield Park, just before 5 p.m. She was later pronounced dead on the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner has since listed the death as a homicide, with the cause being attributed to multiple injuries from an assault.
It remains unclear what led to the individual's death, but sources confirmed to WGN-TV that the victim had suffered severe head trauma and had been stabbed several times in the face and neck.
Officers said no arrests have been made in connection with the death and an investigation is now underway.

14 people sentenced after GA dog fighting ring bust
A judge has sentenced 14 defendants in a large-scale federal dog fighting case in Southwest Georgia to a total of 343 months in prison. According to court records, defendants from three states all gathered on a property in Donalsonville, Georgia, on April 24, 2022, where they held a dog fighting event. Gainesville Fire Department to stage fake fire during training exercise on Monday
Gainesville residents may notice emergency vehicles and what appears to be smoke near the downtown area on Monday, but don't fret. It's just a training exercise. Chicago crash: Passenger killed in rollover crash on I-290, ISP says
CHICAGO - An 18-year-old passenger was killed in a rollover crash on the Eisenhower Expressway on Saturday night when a car hit a curb. What we know The crash happened on Interstate 290 near Leavitt Street in Chicago, near the Illinois Medical District on the city's West Side, according to the Illinois State Police. Around 10 p.m., the car was traveling eastbound on the shoulder and struck the curb, causing it to roll over. The passenger was taken to an area hospital and died. The driver was not injured. The passenger was identified as Noah Alicea, 18, by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. What we don't know It was unclear why the car was driving on the shoulder.
