This Durga Puja season in Kolkata, American diamonds to add sparkle to goddess' eyes

Written by Anisha Ghosh This year's Durga Puja will have a sparkle of innovation from Indrajit Paul, an artisan from Kumortuli, North Kolkata. He has adorned Maa Durga's idol's eyes with special American diamonds. 'When the lights hit the goddess's eyes, the diamonds will reflect the rays, making it look illuminated as if it has come to life. It will give a 3-D effect, leaving the audience spellbound. No other stone can create the same effect,' Paul says. The idol stands tall at 11 feet and is priced between Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh. Out of all the idols the artist has made for this year, only one is left to be booked. Paul expects that the idol will be booked by Sunday. Many customers have already shown great interest in the idol with diamond-studded eyes after seeing the pictures. This is not the first time the artist has created something unique. In 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, he came up with the idea of a 'Coronasur' a demon symbolising the coronavirus. He received wide media coverage, and even the Kolkata Knight Riders sent a team to shoot a documentary on it. 'This year, idol-making has been a bit difficult as the continuous rain has been making it hard, stretching the drying time of the idols. We are using the help of ceiling fans to dry it,' says Paul, who is also into short films. Paul also has a knack for writing scripts and directing films. During my free time, I write scripts and direct short films. As West Bengal is set to celebrate Durga Puja by the end of September, the diamond-eyed idol is expected to become a major attraction. Filmmaker Takes A Dig At Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana For Rs 4000 Crore Budget? Find Out

Last Updated: Even though the filmmaker did not mention Ranbir Kapoor or Ramayana in his post, the timing of his note left everyone wondering if he was slamming the much-awaited movie. Amid reports that Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana has a budget of Rs 4000 crore, it looks like filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has taken a dig at the makers. Recently, Gupta took to his X handle and mentioned that even though big Hollywood films like Avatar and Dune also had massive budgets, they never spoke about it and let their work do the talking. 'MATRIX, LORD OF THE RINGS, AVATAAR, DUNE, STARWARS, etc. All films with groundbreaking never seen before VFX. None spoke about it before the release. They let the work speak for itself," he wrote. Even though Gupta did not mention Ranbir Kapoor or Ramayana in his post, the timing of his note left everyone wondering if he was slamming the much-awaited movie on the Hindu mythological epic. Ramayana Has A Budget Of Rs 4000 Crore? With a massive all-star lineup featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Amitabh Bachchan, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and more, Nitesh Tiwari directorial has officially claimed the title of the most expensive Indian film ever, with a combined budget of around Rs 4,000 crore (about $500 million). Recently, the producer of the movie, Namit Malhotra, opened up about funding the project when he told Prakhar Gupta on his podcast, 'We're funding it ourselves. We're not taking anybody's money." He admitted that when the idea took shape six or seven years ago, shortly after the pandemic, many thought it was pure madness. 'To put it simply, it'll be about $500 million by the time we're done on both films put together, part one and part two, which is over Rs 4,000 crore." Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios along with the 8-time Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG, in association with Yash's Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is being filmed for IMAX and will be released worldwide in two parts: Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027. Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Box Office Day 4: Vikrant Massey, Shanaya Kapoor's Film Fails Monday Test

Shanaya Kapoor's debut film Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan, starring Vikrant Massey, earned only Rs 1.35 crore in four days. Despite heavy promotion, it struggled due to weak execution. Newcomers in Bollywood always grab attention and when it's a star kid's debut, the excitement is even higher. That's exactly what happened with Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, who made her big-screen debut with Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan. While fans had high hopes, the film didn't do as well as expected and left many disappointed. The film also stars Vikrant Massey opposite her. The film was heavily promoted, but its opening at the theatres was extremely slow. On its first day, it earned only Rs 30 lakh, a figure that was disappointing by all standards. Saturday saw a slight improvement with collections rising to Rs 49 lakh. However, the film failed to attract audiences even on Sunday, bringing its total three-day earnings to just Rs 1.15 crore. On its fourth day, Monday, a working day, the film's earnings dropped even further. According to Sacnilk's report, the film managed to earn only around Rs 20 lakh. This brings the total four-day collection to approximately Rs 1.35 crore, which is a major setback for a film made on a budget of Rs 50 crore. Due to its weak storyline and performances, Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan faced tough competition at the box office right from day one. It released alongside Rajkummar Rao's Maalik and the much-anticipated Hollywood film Superman. While Superman attracted a large share of multiplex audiences, Maalik didn't perform exceptionally either. However, it was Shanaya Kapoor and Vikrant Massey's romantic drama that struggled the most among the three. Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, was earlier set to make her debut with Bedhadak, but the project was shelved. Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan marks her official entry into Bollywood. News18 Showsha gave the film three stars. An excerpt from the review read, 'So, with a decent plot, sincere performances, and a soulful soundtrack by Vishal Mishra, where does Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan falter? In one word: execution. There are so many flaws that you can't overlook them all. Some dialogues had the audience chuckling, for all the wrong reasons. While there were a few hilarious, well-written scenes, the flawed execution has turned this into a half-baked cake: it looks tempting but isn't palatable." The film, directed by Santosh Singh and produced by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla, released in theatres this past Friday. Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan draws inspiration from Ruskin Bond's beloved short story The Eyes Have It. At its heart, the film tells a gentle and emotional love story between a visually impaired musician and a spirited theatre artist.
