SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/ANN): Four people were taken to the hospital after an accident involving a car and a bus at Woodlands Checkpoint on the morning of Saturday (May 24).
It also resulted in a lane closure for three hours, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
In response to queries, the police said they were alerted to the accident at Woodlands Crossing at 5.30am.
A 48-year-old male car driver and his three passengers, aged between 14 and 78, were taken conscious to the hospital, the police added.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said two people were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital while another two were taken to Sengkang General Hospital.
In a video uploaded on Facebook group Malaysia-Singapore Border Crossers Group 2, at least three ambulances, one fire engine, two SCDF support vehicles and several rescue workers can be seen at the scene.
A silver-coloured MPV, which has a badly dented bonnet, appears to have collided with a Causeway Link bus.
In its first alert on Facebook at 6.10am, ICA said the accident blocked one out of three lanes leading into the Causeway.
At about 7.53am, ICA said all three lanes were blocked for 15 minutes to allow SCDF to wash the oil spillage at the accident site. More than 15 minutes later, it updated that the spillage had been cleaned and two out of three lanes were opened for vehicles departing for Johor Bahru.
At 9.09am, ICA said all lanes were open for departing traffic.
'Travellers planning to depart Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint should expect delays,' it said, adding that motorists are advised to follow its Facebook page for updates.
Police investigations are ongoing. - The Straits Times/Asia News Network

An artist's impression of the Penang Hill cable car project. PETALING JAYA : Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow is leading a state delegation to Switzerland and Austria to support the development of the Penang Hill cable car project. In a statement, his office said the seven-day visit, which starts today, is hosted by Austrian ropeway specialist Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH and local rail firm Hartasuma Sdn Bhd. Chow's office said the visit is key to ensuring the project meets international standards for sustainable mobility and safety. The delegation will visit several key suppliers involved in the project, including Doppelmayr in Wolfurt, Austria; Fatzer AG, a cable ropeway supplier in Romanshorn, Switzerland; Garaventa AG, a funicular system expert in Goldau, Switzerland; and CWA Constructions SA, a gondola cabin manufacturer in Olten, Switzerland. The delegation will also meet with the mayor of Bettmeralp and representatives from local cable car operator Aletsch Bahnen AG. Bettmeralp is a well-known car-free village accessible only by cable car and serves as a model for sustainable mountain tourism. The statement added that insights gained from the visit will help guide the long-term development of Penang Hill as a sustainable and accessible destination. 'This visit is vital for understanding the engineering, operations and safety measures behind world-class cable car systems,' the statement said. 'The state government is committed to delivering the Penang Hill cable car project with the highest standards of safety, quality and reliability. This mission reflects that commitment,' it said. The RM245 million Penang Hill cable car project was awarded to Hartasuma under a 30-year public-private partnership using a design-finance-build-operate-transfer model. Doppelmayr has been tapped to supply the cable car technology. The cable car line will span 2.73km from the Penang Botanic Gardens to the top of Bukit Bendera. The project includes three main stations, namely the Garden Station at the base, a mid-route Turn Station and the Hill Station at the summit, as well as a multi-storey car park, commercial plaza opposite the Botanic Gardens department and a dedicated bus parking space.

Honda Malaysia recalls 87,490 units of vehicles for fuel pump replacement

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Honda Malaysia today announced a product recall involving 87,490 units of Honda vehicles to replace their fuel pump as a precautionary measure. The affected models include Accord (year of model: 2013 - 2017), BR-V (2017 - 2018), City (2014 - 2019), City (Hybrid) (2018, 2019), Civic (2017, 2018), CR-V (2018 - 2020), HR-V (2015 - 2018), Jazz (2015 - 2020), Jazz (Hybrid) (2018) and Odyssey (2017 - 2019). 'The fuel pump's impeller may swell after prolonged fuel immersion, potentially preventing the vehicle from starting or causing the engine to stall while driving,' the company said in a statement. A total of 84,073 units of the Jazz, City, Civic, Accord, BR-V, HR-V, CR-V and Odyssey are involved,. Meanwhile, a total of 3,417 units of the Civic and CR-V are affected by an issue with the high-pressure fuel pump, which may crack due to prolonged use and excessive stress, potentially leading to a fuel leak or giving rise to a fuel odor while driving or idling. The affected models involved in the product recall for high-pressure fuel pumps were Civic (2023, 2024) and CR-V (2024). Honda said all affected customers will be informed via notification letters, which will include details of the product recall. Customers can also check if their vehicle is affected in the recall via the Honda Touch application. Honda Malaysia urges all affected customers to contact any Honda authorised dealer to make an appointment upon receipt of the notification to replace the fuel pump, subject to parts availability. 'The replacement of the affected fuel pump and high-pressure fuel pump is free of charge and all cost related to this replacement activity will be borne by Honda Malaysia. The replacement stock will be available in stages,' it added. — Bernama
