State Govt strengthens tertiary health care services in medical colleges
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 14 (ANI): In a bid to improve health care services across all six medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh, the present state government is taking numerous steps to improve and offer better medical facilities to the patients, said an official statement.
It has approved the establishment of departments of Nephrology, Neurology, and Gastroenterology at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, along-with creation and filling of 118 posts across various categories, aiming to provide specialized treatment facilities to the patients from Hamirpur and neighbouring districts including Mandi, Una, Bilaspur and Kangra, the statement said.
Under the directives of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the hospital authorities have conducted a survey, which indicated a rise in the patients suffering from kidney, neurological and digestive system related ailments.
However, due to a lack of specialist doctors in these departments in the medical college, the patients are forced to go to IGMC Shimla, Dr. RPGMC Tanda and PGIMER, Chandigarh for treatment. The Chief Minister directed the Health department to expedite the process of establishing the new departments and appointing the requisite medical and supportive staff, the statement added.
The Chief Minister has also directed the department to improve the health care facilities across all the medical colleges. Following these directives, the state government has also given its nod to establish the department of Nuclear Medicine at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College, Nerchowk in Mandi district along with the creation and filling of posts including Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Senior Resident Doctor, Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Radiation Safety Officer.
Additionally, it also approved to fill up the post of Assistant Professor in the department of Immunohematology and blood transfusion in the department of Pathology in Dr YS Parmar Government Medical College Nahan, district Sirmaur.
The state government is also focused on upgrading medical technologies and diagnostic services across the state. As a part of this, three Tesla MRI machines are being installed in the medical colleges of Tanda, Hamirpur, and Nerchowk. The current MRI machine at IGMC is over 19 years old and is being replaced by the state government.
Chamiyana Hospital in Shimla, along with all medical colleges, zonal and regional hospitals, are being modernised to provide world-class treatment facilities within the state. The government has earmarked Rs 200 crore for implementing modern technologies in the hospitals and is consistently working to reduce patient dependency on out-of-state health care services.
Additionally, 69 health facilities across the state are being upgraded for enhanced levels of care by adding specialist beds and improved diagnostic capabilities. (ANI)

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 11 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday participated in the 'Yog Shivir' at the Sabarmati River Front in Ahmedabad under the 'Healthy Gujarat - Obesity Free Gujarat' campaign. Meanwhile on Tuesday, A yoga camp was held at Navlakhi Ground in Vadodara ahead of International Yoga Day, drawing participation from over one lakh people, according to officials. The event was jointly organised by the Gujarat State Yoga Board and Vadodara Municipal Corporation to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga. The event, which took place as a precursor to the celebrations on June 21, saw enthusiastic participation from people of all age groups who practised various yoga asanas together in the open. 'The trend of people towards yoga is increasing across the country. Everyone is becoming healthy. Even after having a reputation for money, a person has stress, depression, sleep issues, diabetes and obesity. They feel that apart from financial health, physical health is very important. Mental health is very important and it will be achieved through yoga. There is no other way but yoga,' he said. He further added, 'So today you have seen that there was a Mahakumbh of Yoga in the city of Vadodara, and similar programs are taking place in all our districts of Gujarat.' The event served as a major build-up to the International Yoga Day celebrations, which will be marked across Gujarat and India on June 21. Covid poses no threat yet, demand for masks up in Tiruchy
TIRUCHY: Despite only two official Covid-19 cases currently reported in Tiruchy, the demand for masks has seen a cautious resurgence. The health department has advised high-risk individuals, particularly the elderly and those with prior infections, to exercise caution, though mask usage is not mandatory. Currently, a 51-year-old man without comorbidities is receiving treatment for Covid at a private hospital, while a 25-year-old patient is under home isolation. This limited number of active cases has still prompted a return of precautionary behaviour among the public. Retail medical shops, particularly in areas like Thillai Nagar, are reporting a modest increase in mask sales. A pharmacist from the Thillai Nagar outlet noted, 'Normally, we sell about 50 masks a day, mostly for pollution or hospital visits. Now, we're selling double that, primarily to elderly people who had Covid before and feel slightly unwell.' The Tiruchy district Chemists and Druggists Association, said over 800 pharmacies have observed a slight uptick in demand. 'Earlier, selling 100 masks could take a whole month. Now, there's some movement but no real rush,' said President of the association (Tiruchy), P Kirubanandha Moorthy. Three-ply masks are retailing for Rs 5- Rs 10 each, while wholesale packets of 100 three-ply masks are priced at Rs 100. Wholesale traders confirm a sharper trend.
