Ohio State defensive tackle enters the transfer portal
'Tis the season of transfer portal news for the Ohio State football team. the portal news has been trickling out throughout the run to the College Football Playoff national championship, but players have five days from the end of that run to have their name sucked into the portal.
The latest to place his name in the portal is defensive tackle Hero Kanu.
Out of Santa Margarita, California, after being more or less raised in Germany, Kanu was a part of the 2022 recruiting class as a four-star prospect. He never really broke into a significant rotation, with his most playing time occurring last season with just 123 snaps. He finished the year with 14 tackles and one sack.
Kanu is a redshirt junior, so he'll still have two seasons of eligibility to exhaust as he finds a new home. We will of course be on top of whatever destination he chooses and wish him nothing but the best.
Ohio State defensive lineman Hero Kanu has entered the transfer portal, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @cbssports/@247Sports.

Ohio State may have won a national title, but now the hard work begins on a bit of an aggressive timeline with trying to figure out the coaching staff and roster for next season. There is, in fact, no offseason.

Scottie Scheffler emulates Tiger Woods with latest dominant win
World No 1 Scottie Scheffler emulated Tiger Woods by successfully defending the Memorial Tournament title at Muirfield Village. Only five-time winner Woods had previously retained the crown between 1999 and 2001, but Scheffler claimed a second consecutive success with a four-stroke victory over Ben Griffin. Advertisement "Well, you did it again," tournament host Jack Nicklaus told him walking off the green. Scheffler has now won three times in four starts after wins at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and PGA Championship. "It's pretty cool," Scheffler told CBS Sports after his 16th PGA Tour victory. "It's always a hard week as it's so challenging to play this tournament. "I battled really hard over the weekend and Ben made things interesting down the stretch, but overall it was a great week." Scottie Scheffler triumphed at the Memorial (Getty Images) Scheffler took a one-shot lead into Sunday and the chasing pack failed to put him under any concerted pressure. Advertisement Birdies at the seventh, 11th and 15th gave Scheffler breathing space in a final round two-under par 70, with a solitary dropped shot coming at the 10th – his first bogey in 32 holes. Griffin closed with a 73 to finish one ahead of Austria's Sepp Straka, with Nick Taylor a shot back in fourth. "You know Scottie's probably going to play a good round of golf. The guy's relentless,' said Straka after the round. 'He loves competition, and he doesn't like giving up shots. But it's one of those courses where it can always happen, so you got to be prepared for it. I felt like I gave myself a lot of chances to kind of make a push." England's Tommy Fleetwood was tied 16th, Scotland's Robert MacIntyre tied 20th but Shane Lowry, of Ireland, dropped down the leaderboard for a share of 23rd place with a disappointing 77. Advertisement Meanwhile, Rickie Fowler had his first top 10 of the year at just the right time. He made par on the 18th to tie for seventh, earning him the lone available qualification spot for The Open at Royal Portrush in July. Fowler tied with Brandt Snedeker at one-under but gets the one Open exemption available based on a higher world ranking – Fowler at No 124 and Snedeker at No 430. "That's one I've wanted on the schedule," said Fowler, who faces a 36-hole qualifier for the US Open on Monday. Additional reporting from PA

Former Oregon QB Turning Heads During NFL OTAs
Former Oregon QB Turning Heads During NFL OTAs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Fans of the Oregon Ducks are likely clamoring for more after enjoying one of the best seasons in the history of the football program. They navigated the regular season, going undefeated through their first year in the Big Ten Conference after moving from the Pac-12. Advertisement The Ducks continued to impress after defeating the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Championship game. Their dominance landed them the No. 1 overall pick in the College Football Playoff. However, the extra time off may have been detrimental, as they went from December 7, until New Year's Day without a game after four months playing essentially every week and fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes, who were coming off a win over Tennessee. Former Oregon QB turning heads in NFL OTAs Dillon Gabriel was the leader of the high-flying Oregon offense and was eventually selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. However, a different former Ducks quarterback has been turning heads in NFL OTAs. Advertisement According to FOX 8 New Orleans' Sean Fazende, Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has made an impression. "Shough looks very comfortable with vertical routes & out-breaking patterns," Fazende said on "His best throw may have been an incompletion where he rolled to his left and threw off platform to the sideline. Right now, not quite as comfortable in intermediate middle of field." Shough spent three seasons with the Ducks. In his first two, he was backing up Justin Herbert before being handed the reins. He eventually transferred to Texas Tech and then Louisville before the Saints took him in the second round. After Derek Carr's sudden retirement, Shough is now a candidate to win the starting job with Spencer Rattler. Advertisement It remains to be seen what kind of chance Shough truly has to win the starting job, but after watching Rattler in parts of last season, the Saints could decide to give him a chance. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 1, 2025, where it first appeared.

Longhorns offer top recruit in 2027 class
On Sunday afternoon, the Texas Longhorns were busy on the recruiting trail. They made offers to multiple prospects in the 2027 class, including talented defensive back Eli Johnson. The Texas native has drawn interest from some of the top programs in the nation, and now the Longhorns have entered the mix. At the moment, Johnson has received offers from Houston, Florida State, Colorado State, California, and Baylor. He is ranked as the 14th-best safety and the 24th player from the Lone star state in his class by 247Sports. That could change over the next few months, as Johnson has not set a commitment date. Advertisement While many schools are still in the mix, Johnson did not hide his excitement about receiving an offer from Texas on social media. In a post on his X account, the Steele High School product said, " Beyond blessed to receive my 20th offer from Texas Football." The Longhorns 2027 class only has one commitment so far in Taven Epps. The four-star recruit is ranked as the fifth-best linebacker in his class. If Johnson chose Texas, a defense that includes Epps and Johnson would make life hard for offensive coordinators. Although the Longhorns still have plenty of time to add talent, they have made their interest in Johnson clear. Their next step will be to get Johnson to campus for a visit. That will give Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff a chance to provide Johnson with a preview of what his future could hold as a Longhorn. Advertisement Over the last few years, the Longhorns have excelled at developing defensive backs and have chosen Johnson as their next target. Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.
