Faythe Harriers out-point 14-man Oulart-The Ballagh in a tension-filled finish

It may have been too close for comfort, but the result was all that mattered for Faythe Harriers as they out-pointed 14-man Oulart-The Ballagh to secure a first win in Group B of the Pettitt's Senior hurling championship in Chadwicks Wexford Park on Saturday.
The outcome remained in the balance deep into injury-time, with the town team holding a one-point lead when three successive throw-ins 25 metres out at the Clonard end produced three scrambles for possession before the sliothar eventually emerged from the ruck and Adam McRedmond shot the last of the losers' eleven wides.

Rossiter and Hegarty to remain in charge of Wexford hurlers and footballers
KEITH ROSSITER will return as Wexford senior hurling manager at the next county board meeting. The Oulart-the-Ballagh clubman will be afforded a third season in charge, but has yet to name his management team. While Rossiter had an impressive start during his first year, his second in charge ended in bitter disappointment as the team nosedived both in league and championship. Wexford were relegated from Division 1A of the Allianz National Hurling League, but their championship exploits were even more disappointing, with the side failing to qualify for the provincial final, while also missing out on the All-Ireland series. Rossiter will no doubt be tasked with returning the side to Division 1A hurling, but it's not yet known if any further players will follow Matthew O'Hanlon, Dee O'Keeffe and Liam Óg McGovern into retirement. A boost for Rossiter is that the injury-hit Liam Ryan has returned to club hurling, figuring prominently with Rapparees in the senior hurling championship, having missed this year's inter-county campaign through injury and health reasons, while also missing out on much of the 2024 campaign. Meanwhile, John Hegarty is returning for a fourth year in charge of the county's senior footballers. Wexford achieved their long-sought-after promotion to Division 3 of the Allianz League, with the Kilanerin clubman hoping to build on that progress and improve their championship showing. Both managers' nominations were approved at Monday night's meeting of the county management committee and will be brought before the county board for ratification. Ronan Joyce (Shelmaliers) and Dylan Gregan (Castletown) have both been returned as Under-20 hurling and U20 football managers.

United Striders pair embrace challenge at National Senior Championships
Wexford People Today at 04:30 United Striders AC were proud to see two of their youngest stars, Joss O'Connor and Max Murphy, make their National Senior Championship debuts in the 800m in Morton Stadium. Competing against some of Ireland's finest athletes – including Olympian Mark English – both runners embraced the challenge of racing at national senior level. In the second heat, Joss placed eighth in 1:56.39, with victory going to UCD's Cian McPhillips. In the third heat, Max produced a superb personal best of 1:54.72 to take fifth place, in a race won by Andrew Thompson of North Belfast Harriers. Mark English took the win in the opening heat. Remarkably, both Joss and Max are still Under-18 athletes, making their performances all the more impressive. The club looks forward to seeing them build on this experience in future senior competitions. Meanwhile, Sinéad Donovan made her mark at the National Masters track and field championships in Tullamore. Competing in the Over-45 category, she claimed gold in the weight for distance throw, silver in her first-ever hammer throw, and bronze in the shot putt.

Wexford woman receives lifetime achievement award for her contribution to camogie
The GPA Lifetime Achievement Award is a prestigious award presented by the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) and recognises the exceptional contributions of legendary inter-county players to Gaelic football, hurling, and the wider society. Margaret Leacy was named at wing back on the Camogie Team of the Century in 2004. From the Buffers Alley club, she won three All-Ireland senior titles with her county in 1968 and 1969 and then again in 1975. She is also the holder of 4 All-Ireland club titles, three with her home club and one with Eoghan Ruadh in Dublin while she played with them. She is also the holder of eight Gael Linn interprovincial medals and was selected as the Gaelic All Star Player of the Year in 1968. Her daughters Mary and Úna also won the O'Duffy Cup with Wexford. A representative on behalf of Oulart The Ballagh Club said they were thrilled that Margaret was being acknowledged for her role as a trailblazer. "What a special day it was in Croke Park. Margaret Leacy, a legend in the game of Camogie, was awarded with the GPA Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to camogie, her club, and county,' they said. "Margaret has played a huge part of both Oulart - The Ballagh Camogie Club and Oulart - The Ballagh GAA Club. She has been hugely influential on our past and present players. She continued to be part of team management of all different age groups over the years. While also serving on both Camogie and GAA committees. We are forever grateful and appreciative of the years of hard work and dedication that Margaret has given to us as a club. Still to this day, Margaret is still in our pitch most evening watching and encouraging the next generation at games and trainings.' "Well deserved Margaret and congrats from all at Oulart The Ballagh Camogie Club and Wexford Camogie,' they added.
