Bahrain Victorious Spirit Returns as T100 Countdown Begins

Daily Tribune07-08-2025
This year's edition kicks off with an extraordinary challenge from Ghani Souleymane, one of the UAE's most renowned endurance athletes, who will attempt to complete 100 triathlons in 100 consecutive days, each covering the full T100 distance: 2km swim, 80km bike, and 18km run. The journey begins tomorrow at Kite Beach and will culminate with his 100th triathlon at the Dubai T100 on November 16. The feat, officially recognised as a Guinness World Record attempt, also serves a charitable purpose — raising funds for children impacted by conflict.
'The effort is personal,' said Souleymane, who previously completed 30 Ironmans in 30 days. 'It's about doing something extreme for a reason that matters.'
Dubai T100 is part of the Professional Triathletes Organisation's (PTO) global T100 Triathlon World Tour and is increasingly seen as a key date in the international triathlon calendar. It blends professional competition with mass participation, all staged against the backdrop of the Dubai skyline. As part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, the event also aims to mobilise the wider community through accessible races like the Music Run, a 5K fun run drawing thousands.
Returning to Dubai is also a deep field of elite athletes — none more anticipated than the reigning world champions from Bahrain Victorious 13, the Bahrain-backed professional triathlon team that has dominated the global circuit. With the Dubai T100 acting as the penultimate stop on the tour before the championship final in Qatar, top contenders will be chasing critical points in the Race to Qatar standings.
Last year's event delivered drama and speed in equal measure. Julie Derron, current women's T100 leader, praised the energy and atmosphere, calling it 'one of the best events of the season.' The 2025 edition promises even more, with a packed four-day schedule including a Corporate Relay, Sprint Triathlon, elite men's and women's T100 races, and a 100km amateur triathlon where age-groupers will race the same course as the pros.

Dubai T100 Triathlon Returns in 2025 – Promising a Bigger and Better Weekend

The Dubai T100 Triathlon Weekend is coming back from November 13 to 16, 2025, and it's set to be even bigger and better than before, according to the Dubai Sports Council. After a successful debut in 2024, this international triathlon—organized in partnership with the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO)—will once again feature a 100km race (2km swim, 80km bike ride, 18km run) and a Sprint race (750m swim, 20km bike ride, 5km run). A Boost for Dubai's Fitness and Tourism Goals Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, said the event plays a big role in Dubai's Fitness Challenge and fits perfectly with the city's long-term goal to become a leading global destination for sport and tourism. 'We expect the 2025 race to bring in even more international attention, boost our economy, and show off Dubai's energy and lifestyle to the world,' he said. More Events and a Bigger Community Focus Eisa Sharif, Director of Sports Events at Dubai Sports Council, shared that nearly 10,000 amateur athletes joined the 2024 races, along with top professionals like Olympic champions Marten Van Riel (Belgium) and Taylor Knibb (USA)—the first-ever T100 World Champions. He added that the 2025 edition will expand even further, including: More amateur spots in both 100km and Sprint races A Schools Triathlon for young athletes A Corporate Relay event for companies A community-friendly 5km Music Run open to all ages and abilities 'These additions will help promote a healthy, active lifestyle and make sport accessible for everyone in Dubai,' Sharif said. Growing Global Tour Sam Renouf, CEO of PTO, said the Dubai leg of the tour has already become a must-do event on the global triathlon calendar. 'The vibe, the support, and the setting at Meydan Racecourse were unforgettable in 2024, and we're excited to welcome even more participants next year,' he said. So far, the 2025 T100 World Tour has visited Singapore, San Francisco, and Vancouver. The next stop is London (August 9–10) before heading to Qatar for the final showdown.

Bahrain Victorious Sweep T100 Vancouver Podiums

Bahrain Victorious 13 stamped their authority on the T100 Triathlon World Tour in Vancouver this weekend, with Taylor Knibb storming to victory in the women's race and Jelle Geens leading a dominant one-two in the men's, ahead of fellow Belgian and teammate Marten Van Riel. Knibb and Geens Strike Gold American star Taylor Knibb delivered a near-flawless race to take gold, reinforcing her reputation as one of the sport's most complete athletes. Her performance was mirrored in the men's race by Geens, who executed a tactically sharp run to outlast his countryman Van Riel, sealing a Belgian sweep under the Bahrain Victorious banner. The pair's wins showed Bahrain Victorious 13's evolution from a high-profile team of individual stars into a collective powerhouse with clear race-day synergy. Marten Van Riel Makes It a Double Van Riel, back at full strength following an injury-plagued 2024, proved he's once again a podium threat at every outing. He worked closely with Geens throughout the bike leg, the two keeping their pace measured before unleashing on the run. The result was a one-two finish that left the chasing pack, including Germany's Mika Noodt, who took third — firmly behind. Team Bahrain In a sport often dominated by solo narratives, Bahrain Victorious 13 has become an example of team dynamics done right. With support systems in place and athletes peaking at the right time, their performance in Vancouver felt less like a surprise and more like a blueprint for modern triathlon success. With tailored race calendars and high-performance coaching setups, Bahrain Victorious are building winners in the athletes they back. Sam Long's Journey While Bahrain celebrated, it was a far tougher day for US triathlon favourite Sam Long. Just six days after winning IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman, Long entered the fray in Vancouver clearly fatigued. A poor swim left him chasing from the start, and despite a valiant ride and run, he crossed the line in 11th — nearly five minutes behind the leaders. 'This race was a different kind of test,' Long said. 'If I can't fight for the win at T100, I have to redefine what winning means. For now, that's showing courage, resilience and staying proud of showing up.' His honesty resonated with fans, but the performance was a stark reminder of how demanding back-to-back high-level races can be, and how brutal the T100 format can be on bodies still in recovery mode. Looking Ahead to Nice Despite the setback, Long remains focused on his 2025 goal: the IRONMAN World Championship in Nice this September. With three more T100 races to come this season, including the French Riviera T100 in late August, the American has time to recalibrate and build back toward form. But in Vancouver, there was little doubt about who the weekend belonged to. Bahrain Victorious 13 didn't just show up — they owned the moment. On a course that tested endurance and execution, their athletes delivered both in full measure. And with the season hitting its stride, the message from Vancouver is clear: Bahrain Victorious is setting the standard.
