2 people facing multiple drug charges after police search North GA home
On Wednesday, police executed a 'knock and announce' search warrant at 23 Lawton Street in Rome as part of their drug investigation.
Police arrested Rafael Marin Castillo, Jr., 23, and Vanessa Gutierrez, 23, for multiple drug charges, including several for possession of drugs with intent to distribute.
Police seized approximately 15.8 pounds of marijuana, 40 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, four LSD tabs, digital scales and packing materials, 30 Xanax tablets, four grams of THC wax, four packages of THC edibles, three Hydrocodone tablets, one Oxycodone tablet, multiple smoking devices, and one gun.
They were booked into the Floyd County Jail.

Watch: Bear breaks into California home, eats dog food, cookies and chips
Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A bear broke into a California home to feast on snacks including dog food, cookies, a bag of chips and a container of sugar. Bridget Conley said she started getting alerts from the security cameras at her Pine Mountain Club home, located in the Los Padres National Forest in Kern County, about 6:15 a.m. Friday, when no one was home. "He was huge," Conley told KABC-TV. "This bear was the biggest bear that we have seen." Conley said the bear kicked open the door and spent about an hour going in and out of the house. "There were multiple snacks, because once he broke in, he would go in, ransack and pick something that he wanted to eat, come back outside to eat it and then go back," Conley said. The bear feasted on treats including dog food, cookies, a container of turbinado sugar and a bag of chips. "He went for the turbinado sugar, the dog food, and we think he took a bottle of Worcestershire sauce, and I think that maybe he thought it was syrup, and he threw that down. He did not like that," she said. She said not everything in the kitchen was ransacked. "He left the vodka," she said.

IDF strikes Houthi energy infrastructure, including Haziz power station in Sanaa
At least two explosions were heard in the Yemeni capital Sanaa near a power station, residents said early on Sunday. The IDF struck an energy infrastructure site that was used by the Houthis in Yemen, the military confirmed on Sunday morning. According to the IDF, the strikes were conducted in response to repeated attacks by Houthis against Israel and Israeli civilians, including launching surface-to-surface missiles and drones toward Israeli territory. Army Radio reported that the Israel Navy struck in Yemen and targeted the Haziz power station. The report compared the strike to an earlier one this year in the port of Hodeidah. The Houthi-run Beirut-based Al Masirah TV reported earlier that a power plant south of the Yemeni capital Sanaa was hit by an "aggression," knocking some of its generators out of service. The Yemeni channel did not identify the source of the reported "aggression." Senior Houthi leaders were at the power station at the time of the strike, according to a report by UK-based outlet The Telegraph. Teams were working to put out a fire caused by the incident, Al Masirah added, citing a source in civil defense as saying. At least two explosions were heard earlier in Sanaa, residents said. Videos of the explosion showed clouds of smoke and flames erupting from an unidentified structure. The Yemeni group has been firing missiles toward Israel, most of which have been intercepted, in what they describe as support to Palestinians during the Israel-Hamas War. Family sues Bay Area county for alleged negligence in jail overdose death
The family of a man who died from an accidental overdose in Santa Clara County jail last year is suing the county for wrongful death, according to a recent lawsuit, marking the latest in a string of contested overdose deaths in Bay Area jails. James and Bonnie Gay filed a civil rights lawsuit in the Northern District of California on Wednesday against Santa Clara County, alleging that their 33-year-old son Brandon Gay died as a result of negligence by staff at the Elmwood Correctional Facility, federal court records show. Gay was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on November 15, 2024, on drug-related charges, county officials said. He tested positive for amphetamines, benzodiazepines and fentanyl during a medical screening with county personnel, according to the complaint. Gay told medical staff that he used fentanyl and Xanax the day before his arrest, and that he sometimes experienced seizures when 'coming down from Xanax,' the complaint said. Staff cleared him for transport to a correctional facility in Milpitas. A staff doctor ordered wellbeing checks and opiate withdrawal assessments for Gay, but according to allegations made in the lawsuit, county medical staff 'failed to follow this order' for more than a day. Medical staff checked on Gay around 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. November 17, 2024, noting that he was able to move about his cell but 'wanted to go back to sleep,' according to the complaint. At 8:48 p.m. the same day, staff found Gay unconscious on the shower-room floor, the complaint alleges. They transported him in a wheelchair to a medical area at the facility, where he reportedly had a faint pulse, shallow breathing and cool skin. Medical personnel administered three doses of Narcan, according to the complaint. County officials said paramedics from the Milpitas Fire Department arrived by 9:08 p.m. and transported Gay to San Jose Regional Medical Center. Gay died at the hospital several days later. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office said Gay died from complications of mixed drug toxicity related to methamphetamine, buprenorphine and fentanyl. Gay was among 10 people who died in the custody of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office in 2024, including five whose deaths were ruled natural, according to the agency. 'It's troubling when someone dies in custody like this,' said James Cook, an attorney representing the Gay family. 'If the jails are doing their monitoring correctly, you'll be able to take people to the hospital if there's some type of sickness that might lead to death.'
