Signed in July 1995 from Lazio, the club paid a fee of £4.3million for the Geordie midfielder, who went on to become a club legend glittering three season period in Glasgow. A spell that not only left a mark on Gers faithful, but also Gascoigne himself.
Included in the club's Hall of Fame list in 2006, Gascoigne won two Scottish titles, one Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup during his time in Glasgow, alongside several individual honours. Gazza was named PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year in 1996, before departing for Middlesbrough for £3.45 million in March 1998, in a switch he later admitted he wish he'd never had to make.
Arguably one of the club's greatest midfielders of all time, we look back on the best quotes about his ex-boss Walter Smith, team mate Ian Durrant and - of course - the Rangers fans he adored so much to celebrate his birthday.
1 . On how much he loved playing at Rangers...
"I there was anything I could turn the clock back to, it would be just getting off the aeroplane at Glasgow Airport and joining Glasgow Rangers Football Club. I would do those two years over and over again for the rest of my life" | SNS Group 0141 221 3602 Photo: SNS Group Photo Sales
2 . On proving people wrong...
"I remember the press saying I wasn't going to do well up there. I just won everything. Players' player - the lot. I just really enjoyed my football" | Getty Images Photo Sales
3 . On his first meeting with Walter Smith...
'When I spoke to Walter he asked me what I was missing in football and I told him it was playing with a smile on my face. I wasn't getting that in Italy and he told me I would get that here and he was spot on" | SNS Group 0141 221 3602 Photo Sales
4 . On playing for Rangers...

Celtic hero Chris Sutton brutally trolls Rangers fans for ‘giving up' on their team against Brugge

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CHRIS SUTTON doesn't usually need much invitation to have a pop at old rivals Rangers and their fans. And the Celtic hero did just that during Gers' disastrous Champions League qualifying defeat last night. 3 Chris Sutton couldn't resist trolling Rangers fans after their Champions League qualifying defeat Credit: PA 3 Russell Martin's side went down 3-1 to Club Brugge at Ibrox Credit: Getty 3 Many Gers fans headed for the exits when their team went 3-0 down inside 20 minutes Credit: Willie Vass Rangers have a mountain to climb in their quest to reach the Champions League proper after their 3-1 first leg to defeat to Club Brugge. A second-half goal from Danilo restored a shred of hope for Russell Martin's men - and they might have had a second, only for Djeidi Gassama's strike to be controversially ruled out. But Gers had already given themselves far too much to do, conceding twice to the Belgian side inside the first seven minutes. Brandon Mechele added a third for the visitors on 20 minutes, and that was the cue for a number of Rangers supporters to begin leaving Ibrox. And Sutton took delight in mocking his old enemies, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to compile their misery. He posted: "I thought Rangers fans don't do walking away… 20 minutes in and many have given up already…" It's not the first incident this season involving Sutton's social media postings on European night. Earlier this month, Hibs and Dundee United both earned impressive Conference League qualifying results on the same night. United didn't end up going through in their tie with Rapid Wein but managed a 2-2 draw in the first leg, and on the same evening Hibs beat Partizan Belgrade 2-0 in a result which was eventually enough to get them through to the final play-off with Legia Warsaw. Sutton had been quick to congratulate the Scottish sides, posting on X: "Well played Hibs and Dundee United this evening." Moment Rangers hero Kris Boyd and Celtic icon Chris Sutton give Scottish Premiership title predictions - as one pundit FAILS to answer question But the Englishman was soon called out by Greatest Hits Radio Glasgow host Ewen Cameron, who pointed out that Sutton hadn't mentioned Rangers' 3-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen in Champions League qualifying two nights before. He said: "You appear to have missed Rangers' great result on Tuesday night, they won 3-0." Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

'Five teams in running for streamlined SWPL'

I think in terms of the quality of the product, when the SWPL was 12 teams, the distance in quality between the top four and bottom four was so, so hopefully with the reduction in teams the quality players that were with those teams in 11th and 12th have moved into a ninth or a 10th-placed team and it bridges that gap. I think in terms of the competitiveness of the league, the 12 teams were too manyWhen you don't have that depth in squad, that takes its toll on the with that shift to a 10, and less games, then hopefully the product and the competitiveness of the league actually this early stage, Rangers still have to recruit, Celtic still have to recruit, Hibs are going to have Champions League, Glasgow City will have Champions League, I think it's too early to predict, I really do. I know that Glasgow City have that desire, that willingness, just to get the job done even when things are up against them. So maybe they are the frontrunner at this moment in time because we know that generally speaking, when you're in the Champions League for teams like Hibernian who maybe don't have that same depth, that can be quite right now, I would say there's five teams in the running and it's about probably who can remain focused and bring that competitive edge week in, week Scotland international Pauline MacDonald was talking to BBC Scotland's Charlotte Cohen.

Inside Andy Murray's life after retirement with new jobs, potato gig and new addition to family with wife Kim

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HAVING won three Grand Slams, £48million in career prize money and undergoing hip surgery, Andy Murray would be forgiven for wanting to put his feet up after retirement. But instead the tennis icon has been coaching, venturing into business and welcoming a new member of the family with his wife Kim. It has been just over a year since he stepped onto the court and he revealed he is not missing playing. Dad-of-four Murray admitted to "feeling guilty" about the time he spent away from his kids as a player. But it did not stop him taking the chance to coach Novak Djokovic for six months before splitting. "It was a chance to learn from one of the best athletes of all time. "I would do it [coaching] again at some stage. I don't think that will happen immediately," Instead Murray has moved into the business world, becoming a partner of Redrice Ventures where he leads a group of athlete advisers to help find investment opportunities. Andy Murray starts new career as agony aunt as he reveals details of 'terrible' first date with wife Kim But in one of his more bizarre business deals, Murray struck an agreement with potato brand Albert Bartlett to promote their products. They are based in Scotland and are a long-term supplier to the Cromlix Hotel. A statement on the partnership said it brings "two Scottish-born British icons with shared community vision and family values [together].' It added that the two-time Wimbledon champion will be "encouraging the nation to enjoy a healthy lifestyle through sport and a balanced diet'. Murray said: "I was lucky during my early playing days to have access to the kit and facilities required to play and develop, and as my career progressed, to have the best diet and training advice available. "I am excited to partner with Albert Bartlett to showcase the importance of a balanced diet and an active lifestyle to communities across the UK. "I hope the project inspires people to play and enjoy sport throughout their lives, at whatever level they are able." Away from business, Murray has welcomed a new member to the family in the shape of a flat-coated retriever dog. It comes after his border terriers Rusty and Maggie May died. And instead of entertaining on the tennis court, Murray has gone on tour with his own live show. And he is now focusing on golf, recently playing with Carlos Alcaraz while he was at Wimbledon.
