AC Milan's Theo Hernandez joins Saudi side Al-Hilal
PARIS : Saudi club Al-Hilal on Thursday signed AC Milan's French full-back Theo Hernandez on a three-year contract.
The 27-year-old leaves the Serie A side in a deal worth €25 million (US$29.2 million), Italian media report.
Hernandez has played 38 times for France with two goals and figured in the last World Cup, including the defeat by Argentina on penalties in the 2022 final in Qatar.
Moving to the Saudi Pro League a year before the next World Cup could be considered a risk for his chances of getting called up again by coach Didier Deschamps.
But he can take encouragement that Deschamps selected N'Golo Kante for Euro 2024 whilst he was playing for another Saudi club, Al-Ittihad.
Theo is the younger brother of Paris Saint-Germain and France defender Lucas Hernandez.

(EPA Images pic) MUNICH : Czech striker Patrik Schick has extended his contract with Bayer Leverkusen through to 2030, the Bundesliga club announced on Monday. 'Bayer 04 Leverkusen have extended the contract with Czech international Patrik Schick. The striker has signed a contract to 30 June 2030,' the club said in a statement on their website. Schick, 29, was an integral part of Leverkusen's unbeaten German domestic double-winning squad in the 2023/24 season. Since joining the Werkself in 2020, Schick has netted 81 times in 168 appearances in all competitions, as well as laying on 12 assists. Under the tutelage of now-departed coach Xabi Alonso, Schick contributed vital goals on numerous occasions as Leverkusen became the first club to win the Bundesliga without losing a match. He also lifted the German Cup and German Super Cup in 2024. 'I want to and will continue to contribute goals, that's my strength. In addition, I'm also looking to being a key part of the rebuild into a new team capable of winning trophies,' said Schick. The forward's decision to extend his contract bucks the trend of departures this summer from the Bundesliga runners-up. Alonso left to coach Real Madrid and has been followed out the door by star playmaker Florian Wirtz, as well as Jeremie Frimpong, Granit Xhaka and Jonathan Tah. 'With the rebuild in the next cycle at Bayer 04 we see Patrik as a motor of development,' said managing director of sport Simon Rolfes. 'He combines top-quality ability and an exceptional goal return with international experience and he will give the squad the necessary stability and structure.' Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has replaced Alonso in the Leverkusen hot seat as the club starts down a new path. He and Schick will be supported in that project by the recent arrivals of centre-half Jarell Quansah from Liverpool, goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford and German creative midfielder Malik Tillman.

(Instagram pic/Gondomar SC) PORTO : The boyhood club of Portuguese footballers Diogo Jota and Andre Silva have dedicated their kit for this season to the brothers who died in a car crash on July 3 in Spain. Fourth-tier Gondomar SC have imprinted pictures of Liverpool and Portugal forward Jota and his brother Silva, who played for Portuguese team Panafiel, on the front of their shirts. The top of the back of the shirts bears the two players' names under an infinity symbol. 'More than a jersey, a tribute eternal,' Gondomar SC, who play in the Campeonato de Portugal, said in a social media post. 'Because football is more than victories and goals, it's legacy, it's family, it's love for our land. 'Our new jersey brings in the great image of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, two sons of Gondomar who left us too soon, but who will live forever in the history of our club and our football. 'Every time our athletes put on this jersey, it's like stepping on the field with them.' Liverpool announced last month that their players will wear a 'Forever 20' emblem on their shirts and stadium jackets this Premier League season. After consultation with Jota's family, his No 20 shirt will be retired across all levels of the Anfield club, including the women's and academy teams. Jota and Silva grew up in Gondomar, a town on the outskirts of Porto.

The decider at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado saw Colombia take the lead three times, only for Brazil to respond on each occasion. Brazil great Marta forced extra time with a late equaliser and the veteran struck again in the 105th minute to seemingly seal victory. But a resilient Colombia found yet another equaliser to send the encounter to penalties, where Brazil's experience ultimately prevailed. 'I think women's soccer has been growing a lot. I think the trend is for it to be more competitive. Everyone here deserved a match like this. Congratulations to Colombia too,' Brazil's Amanda Gutierres said. 'This means a lot. I think it's Brazil's job. It's that mentality of never giving up. That's a source of pride for Brazil. I think it means a lot to Brazilians.' Both teams created early chances but the breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Colombia's Linda Caicedo capped off a tidy passing move with a composed low finish from close range. The penalty shootout mirrored the drama of the match, with Colombia taking the early advantage after Angelina's miss.
