Navy divers to recover crashed police helicopter wreckage in Sungai Pulai tomorrow
It is understood that the decision to initiate the recovery of the twin-engine light utility helicopter was made following an inter-agency coordination meeting at the crash site today.
Earlier, Johor police Internal Security and Public Order Department chief Muhd Zailani Abdullah and the police air wing's Subang Air Operations Force deputy commander for operations Ahmad Lokman Abdul Hadi co-chaired the meeting.
After the meeting, both senior officers agreed to initiate the recovery process based on their assessment following a survey at the crash site via a police riverine craft.
The recovery process tomorrow will be carried out by a Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) diving team that has marked the location of the helicopter's wreckage.
They will be assisted by the Region Two Marine Police Force divers.
Earlier, 25 police and RMN personnel were involved in the coordination meeting, including two officers from the Putrajaya Air Accident Investigation Bureau.
Other representatives were from the Johor Port Authority, the Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP), the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), as well as doctors and medical personnel from the Health Ministry.
Last Thursday, the Airbus AS355N police helicopter with registration number 9M-PHG crashed while performing a flypast simulation in conjunction with the Multi-Directional Exercise on Nuclear Security Detection, Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand-Singapore (MITSATOM) 2025 joint exercise.
However, the helicopter's five crew members, who are police personnel, survived the crash.
The incident left two crew members, Constable RG Devendran from the Tanjung Kupang police station and Corporal Adeline Liu Yan Sin, from the police air unit, in critical condition.
The helicopter's pilot, Assistant Commissioner Faizul Muhammad; his co-pilot, Superintendent Ahmad Bustamin Baharom and Sergeant Siti Latipa Khairuddin were reported to be recovering and in stable condition.
All five victims are currently receiving treatment at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here.
The Airbus AS355N is a popular variant and used by both private individuals and companies, private helicopter charter, as well as law enforcement and government service.
The police currently operate a fleet of five Airbus AS355N helicopters since taking delivery in 1996.

The report contained an image of a Jalur Gemilang with two stars, instead of one, hanging on a classroom wall. The flag had eight alternating red and white stripes instead of 14. In May, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan acknowledged the incident involving the logo for the Himpunan Teguh Memimpin Terengganu (TMT 1.0) 2025, which depicted an incomplete national flag with incorrect star points and stripes. He then called for a thorough investigation and firm action over the blunder.

Hundreds gather in Sabah to demand justice for Zara Qairina

PETALING JAYA : Hundreds of Sabahans have gathered in several locations across the state to call for justice for the late Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir. A livestream on Sandakan MP Vivian Wong's TikTok account showed a crowd had gathered outside Harbour Mall in the constituency, with the protesters chanting 'justice for Zara' and 'murderer'. It is understood that the protest started at about 8pm and was ongoing at the time of writing, though its organiser is unclear. Social media posts showed similar gatherings being held in Lahad Datu and Tawau, while more rallies in solidarity with Zara are planned in other locations in the coming days. FMT has reached out to Sabah police for comment. Zara was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after she allegedly fell from the third floor of her school's hostel in Papar, Sabah. She died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu the following day. The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has ordered the police to exhume her body so that a post-mortem could be conducted and the investigation into her death completed. The AGC said that after reviewing the preliminary report by the police into the teenager's death, it found a need for the matter to be investigated further. Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun previously said they had not ruled out the possibility that she had been bullied. Separately, state assistant youth and sports minister Fairuz Renddan said the Sabah government fully supported calls for a transparent investigation into Zara's death. Fairuz said he met Jauteh over the case yesterday. 'As a father, I can imagine and feel what the mother of the deceased is going through.
