Despite refusing to terminate Francesco Acerbi's contract, Inter are trying to add to Cristian Chivu's defensive options.
Indeed, they've already identified their priorities.
Giovanni Leoni is on top, but Parma's €40 million asking price could throw a spanner in the works.

Chivu dreams of reuniting with the 18-year-old at San Siro.
However, Inter cannot afford to match Parma's request. Furthermore, Liverpool have recently joined the race for Leoni.
Therefore, they've shifted their attention toward Koni De Winter.
At 23, the ex-Juventus youngster still has ample room for improvement.

Nonetheless, he enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 season at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Moreover, his versatility makes him a perfect candidate to replace Yann Bisseck, who could move to the Premier League.
It's also worth noting that the two deals are not mutually exclusive.

Watch out for MASSIVE exit as Liverpool close in on double-signing
Liverpool are closing in on two brilliant signings right now. But watch out for a massive exit on the back of them. Liverpool hope to complete multiple transfers before the window closes. Alexander Isak is, of course, at the top of their list and the dream signing. That's been the case all year - but Newcastle United will not make it easy. We'll just have to see how the remaining days of the transfer window play out. Shop the LFC Store LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! But he's certainly not the only one on the agenda. Liverpool aim to bring in both Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni. That's a pair of centre-backs, then, and at a time when there's arguably a lack of room for both. Could the Reds actually give decent playing time to each of them? Well, there's one way... 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Ibrahima Konate's future Ibrahima Konate has one year remaining on his contract. Just under that now, actually. He's yet to agree on a new one at Liverpool, essentially forcing their hand a bit. The club needs to consider life after Konate and they appear to be doing just that. There is one spot in the squad, certainly, after Jarell Quansah left. But with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both around, five centre-backs seems like overkill. Unless Konate is leaving. Real Madrid want to sign him and while their plan is currently to make that happen in 2026 on a free transfer, there has been talk of an offer this summer.

Liverpool agree deal to sign Giovanni Leoni
Liverpool have agreed a €35 million deal with Parma to sign Italian defender Giovanni Leoni, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 18-year-old centre-back, regarded as one of Europe's most promising young defenders, has agreed personal terms ahead of a move to Anfield. Leoni's breakthrough 2024-25 season at Parma earned him widespread acclaim. He made 17 appearances, showcasing his defensive prowess and dominance in the air. He had the highest percentage of aerial duels won among players aged 20 and under in Europe's top five leagues last season. Although Leoni's initial role at Anfield may be to develop under the guidance of senior defenders Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, his arrival signals the club's long-term defensive planning. There had been some speculation about a possible loan back to Parma, but Liverpool plan to integrate him into the squad immediately. Leoni may not be the only defender set to arrive at Liverpool before the transfer window shuts, as they remain in talks with Crystal Palace over a deal for Marc Guehi. Guehi has interest from elsewhere but is currently prioritising a move to Liverpool, and Palace are almost resigned to parting ways with him this summer to avoid losing him for free next year. Liverpool's need for defensive reinforcement has been intensified by the sale of Jarrell Quansah and Joe Gomez's injury woes. This has left Van Dijk and Konate as the only senior centre-backs available. The latter's long-term future on Merseyside remains uncertain, with one year left on his current deal.
