Man orders pint in Benidorm and is amazed when he hears the price

Daily Mirror21-05-2025

Graham White, also known as Benidorm Grumet, often goes to the Spanish resort and decided to put one of his fans' theories to the test - and he was left stunned at the results
Brits in search of an affordable holiday with a vibrant atmosphere are flocking to Benidorm, a resort where the nightlife sparkles and drinks flow until the sun comes up – making it an absolute magnet for stag dos.
But just how budget-friendly are the pints in this Spanish haven?

Graham White, also known as Benidorm Grumet among his almost 60K TikTok followers, couldn't believe his eyes when he discovered a pint going for less than a cuppa. At a certain spot, a humble brew costs £1.66, yet Graham found himself ordering a pint of beer for a mere 83p – a price that would have Brits doing a double-take back home, reports the Express.

The 48-year-old social media sensation took to TikTok to share his bargain-hunting adventure. In the video, Graham gives viewers a tour of the pub's ambience and introduces the staff and clientele before putting the barmaid on the spot: "How much is it for a pint of Estrella?"
"One euro, one euro for a pint," she declared, an offer too good for Graham to pass up. He then questioned the price of a brew and found out it was exactly twice the cost of a pint, at two euros.
While some of his fans were amazed, others doubted the authenticity of such a deal. "People called me a liar and said there was no place in Benidorm where you can get a one-euro pint. So I went in and got one," Graham claimed, silencing the critics by showing them it's the real deal.
Dubbed as the "cheapest bar in Benidorm," one patron couldn't hide their surprise at the bargain prices, stating it was "double [the price] for a cup of tea."
With the average pint in London costing a hefty £6.50 according to Finder.com, and the UK-wide average not far off at £5.44, holidaymakers might find themselves getting merry for a fraction of the price after touching down in sunny Benidorm.

The post quickly sparked a flurry of comments, with some wittily asking, "Why would you bother with anything else?" Another chimed in to praise Benidorm's economy, labelling it "cheap as chips" compared to numerous other tourist traps.
The response didn't stop there - someone bemoaned, "Love the price, pity I don't drink." Another recent visitor couldn't wait to share, "Went here yesterday, the food is ace as well."
Further reactions included kudos like "Bargain of the day" and another declaring, "May as well get the pints in!".

Wedding dress exhibition held at Kent church

A village church in Kent is celebrating its 175th anniversary with an exhibition of wedding Paul's Church in Rusthall was consecrated in August 1850 by the then Archbishop of Canterbury John Bird Sumner. The Victorian church is marking the milestone by displaying 20 dresses, all worn by brides at St Paul's over the years, until 14 June. The dresses on display - both designer and handmade - have been loaned along with photographs and mementos dating back to 1920, according to curator Elaine Bruce. "This exhibition is bringing people together to appreciate the beauty and significance of weddings and reconnecting with those who had their marriages at the parish church," she told the BBC. "It all adds up to quite an emotional display." Flowers will also be exhibited based on the bouquets the brides had when they tied the knot. Jennifer Farman, who got married there in 2018, said it felt like a "privilege" to have her dress shown in the exhibit."I have a long history with this church. I've been coming here since I was a toddler," she told the mum also got married there and her grandparents used to attend services. "I always knew this would be where I got married," she added. Rita Wilson said her dress - which she walked down the aisle with in 1956 and later wore to dances at the Assembly Hall in Tunbridge Wells - is the oldest on show. Her mother also married at the church in 1926, alongside her daughter in 1985."There's so many memories of events that have happened here... and friendships [that we have made]," she said."It's actually very special."

Holly Willoughby reveals secret health battle that drove her to 'write herself off' and admits 'I felt different' in emotional new Channel 4 documentary

Holly Willoughby has revealed a secret health battle that drove her to 'write herself off' in an emotional Channel 4 documentary. Jamie Oliver 's new show, Jamie's Dyslexia Revolution, hit screens on Monday evening. The documentary saw the TV chef look into the challenges dyslexic children have to tackle at school and push for more support from the Government. Dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that causes problems with reading, writing and spelling and difficulties with processing. During the film, Holly features and opens up about her own battle with dyslexia. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Reflecting on her time at school, the TV star spoke about her 'poor results' in tests despite 'working really, really hard'. She said: 'I definitely was terrible at spelling. I knew that because in spelling tests I would always get poor results' 'I always knew that when I got my homework back, there would be red pen all over it where there would be 'silly mistakes',' Holly added. The presenter revealed how it made her feel 'different' and explained: 'I felt like I was working really, really hard, with not getting much results. So I felt different.' She shared her take on the current school system and how it isn't suited for everyone. 'The school system is made for a certain type of learning and its so hard when you don't learn like that,' Holly said. 'When you then write yourself off at school as being non-academic that does shape your future somewhat,' she added. The TV presenter has previously said she was diagnosed with dyslexia 'quite late in life' and has praised her teachers with helping her overcome it at school. And during an episode of This Morning back in 2022, the star said she did not see the learning difficulty as a 'disability', adding: 'I think it makes me who I am.' While discussing dyslexia with British entrepreneur, Sir Richard Branson, 71, who is also dyslexic, Holly said: 'I don't see it as a disability at all, I see it as a real feather in my cap. 'I'm very proud of being dyslexic, I think it makes me who I am. I think half of the things I think that I'm actually quite good at in life are because I'm dyslexic.' Sir Richard responded: 'I was so hopeless at school work that I decided aged 15 to leave school and do the things that I was interested in, and once I started putting my dyslexic thinking brain to things that I was interested in I started to excel at them. 'I think I was quite creative and great at getting a good group of people around me and motivating them well… and what I've realised over the years is being a dyslexic thinker is something that we should all be blessed with.' He added: 'When parents are told that their child is dyslexic, they should rejoice and tell them that they will have a little bit of a difficult time at doing some of the fundamentals at school but they should be concentrating soon after that on the things that they are good at.' She also previously said she found her difficulties 'shameful' as a child during an episode of This Morning in 2021. 'For me, because I'm not very good at spelling, for years I felt shameful about that', the host reflected, before she revealed the turning point in her journey came when she went to college. She opened up about how she struggled with her experience during her younger years, revealing: 'Dyslexia is such a broad spectrum, people have so many different forms of it. 'Yes, I'm dyslexic also and I had to find my own tool kit and for me it was finding somebody who understood this who could teach me how to access those tools because at school it wasn't really that well known then. 'I wouldn't write down in front of people because I didn't want them to see, but it doesn't bother me now that I can't spell.'

Woman buys fish and chips in popular UK city and Brits are floored by price

A woman ordered fish and chips at one of her favourite chip shops, but people have been left floored by the price. She ventured to a popular UK city to carry out a taste test A woman ordered fish and chips at her local chip shop, but people have been left stunned at the price of the food. Suzanna, known as suzannatravelsolo on TikTok, uses her platform to document her travel journeys, but she recently turned her attention to the good old fashioned British supper. Suzanna ventured to her favourite chippy to sample what was on offer, and she was left pretty impressed, but the price of the dish did take some people by surprise. She ordered a small portion of fish, chips and mushy peas, and encouraged other people to share how much they pay to sample the goods where they live. ‌ Alongside the meal, she ordered some curry sauce and a bottle of Dandelion and Burdock. She then topped the dish with salt and vinegar before tucking in. ‌ Suzanna said: "So, how much is fish and chips where you live? We've done this debate before. This was £14 for this, and also I got some bread and butter and a battered sausage, because, you know, I haven't been to the chippy for a long time." Holding up the plate, which included only the fish, chips and mushy peas, she added: "£14 for that." She then encouraged people to share how much the classic meal costs where they live, so she could compare what she pays in Liverpool. One person replied to Suzanna's video, writing: "£15 last time I had it in SE London." Another wrote: "Yorkshire Dales £9.50 fish and chips, £1.30 tea cake, mushy peas £1.70, battered sausage £3.05. Yours looks delicious and a big portion too!" A third replied: "City centre prices are always a bit more expensive, but you can't beat a chippy tea in Liverpool. Couldn't do it without curry sauce, so I'm with you on that one." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Kent £10." Someone else also chimed in with: "£15 for cod and chips near where I'm staying." ‌ In the comments, Suzanna was trying to figure out if the prices included sides too to see exactly how they differ, but it's no secret that the price of the staple meal has rocketed in recent years. According to reports, the average price for a regular portion of fish and chips in the UK comes in at around £9.88. Prices can vary significantly though, with London being known as offering the most expensive price at £22.50 for a larger portion. Meanwhile, in West Yorkshire, it's said you may be able to snap up the much-loved meal for as little as £6.70 for a smaller portion. However, portion sizes also vary greatly, as some shops can serve a regular fish up to 12oz and chips up to 20oz. If you didn't know, the price of cod and haddock has rocketed by 75% in the past year as a result of supply chain disruptions and global factors like the Ukraine war. While the price rise could hit the pockets of punters, it appears Brits still love tucking into fish and chips. According to average prices, a classic cod and chips will cost you around £10.92. Meanwhile, the average price of haddock and chips is slightly higher at £11.13. Meanwhile, smaller meal portions tend to come in between £5 to £8, while larger portions can set you back around £11. If it's high end fish and chips you're after, the price can vary from anything to £25 to £80.
