Bihar Assembly polls likely to be held in two to three phases: Sources

India Today3 days ago

Sources told India Today TV that the Bihar 2025 Assembly elections will likely be conducted in two to three phases. The election schedule is expected to be planned keeping in mind major festivals like Diwali and Chhath, sources added. The current term of the Bihar Assembly ends on November 22, 2025, and the election process must be completed before that.In the last two elections also, Bihar saw polling over multiple phases. In 2020, the voting took place in three phases - 71 seats on October 28, 94 seats on November 3, and 78 seats on November 7 - with results declared on November 10. In 2015, the elections were held in five phases.advertisementChief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is expected to visit Bihar later this month to review preparations. Meanwhile, training is being provided to poll officials, including Booth Level Officers (BLOs), to ensure accuracy in the electoral process. The Commission aims to avoid allegations over the voter list like those faced in Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi.
To maintain transparency, the Commission has stated that no appeals were filed after the publication of final electoral rolls in Bihar, Haryana and Delhi between January 6 and 10, 2025. All BLOs will be issued ID cards to verify voter details through door-to-door visits. A special campaign will also be launched to add the names of first-time voters who have turned 18.To streamline election management, the Election Commission is introducing a single-point app ECINET, an integrated digital dashboard, that replaces the earlier need to use 40 different apps and websites. This system is expected to be fully functional by the Bihar elections.advertisementSeveral measures are being implemented to address past concerns. Duplicate Electors Photo Identification Card (EPIC) numbers have been eliminated, and voter rolls will now be linked to the Registrar General of India's death records to remove names of deceased voters. For the voters, multiple improvements are being introduced: the number of electors per polling booth will be reduced from 1,500 to 1,200, more booths will be set up in densely populated areas, and efforts will be made to ensure no voter has to walk more than two kilometers to reach a polling station.Polling booths will also be set up in high-rise buildings and voters will have access to mobile deposit facilities outside polling stations. Voter slips will now feature clearly printed serial and part numbers for easier identification. The Commission is also preparing to address the challenges posed by artificial intelligence. A dedicated cell will be set up to monitor AI-related election content. Political parties have already been advised to label AI-generated campaign material clearly to keep voters informed.Must Watch

Govt. to implement school fee regulation via ordinance: Sood

The Delhi government will provide immediate relief to parents by bringing in an ordinance to regulate arbitrary school fee hikes, Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Wednesday, asserting that the interim measure will later be formalisedthrough legislation in the Assembly within six months. The move comes amid growing concern among students and their parents over unauthorised fee hikes and alleged mistreatment of students by private schools. Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. Sood said, 'In the absence of a Delhi Assembly session, we will bring in an ordinance to implement the proposed measures so that parents get relief this academic year. The issue will be revisited in the Vidhan Sabha after six months.' Mr. Sood accused the previous government of neglecting the issue and 'working in tandem with schools' rather than protecting parents' interests. His comments come in the wake of a controversy involving Delhi Public School, Dwarka, which reportedly struck students off the rolls for non-payment. Following a directive from the Directorate of Education (DoE), the school reinstated the students. 'Students have been reinstated. Right now, the holidays are on, and they will return to classrooms afterwards,' Mr. Sood said. However, several parents claim their children are still being excluded from class WhatsApp groups and essential academic updates despite the official order. Smart learning Mr. Sood said that 75 CM Shri Schools equipped with smart classrooms, AI-based learning tools, AR/VR labs, and courses in robotics and data science will be established. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Language Labs will also be set up in 100 schools to offer foreign language instruction in English, French, and German. Mr. Sood said financial aid has been released to all State universities and 12 Delhi University colleges, with ₹275 crore sanctioned as the first instalment for staff salaries and operational expenses. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Atishi said parents of private schools told her on Wednesday that the government was 'bringing a law through the back door, which is to save private schools'. 'I assured them we will continue to fight with them against this education mafia too,' she posted on X.

Bengaluru stampede: Shadow-boxing between CM & Dy CM reason for tragedy, says Opposition leader Ashoka

He said the Dy CM rushed to the airport to take photographs with the players instead of supervising the arrangements in Bengaluru, and the police were also clueless about the procession. There were no ambulances or fire brigades at the stadium, he demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased and must fully bear the treatment cost of the state president BY Vijayendra demanded a judicial inquiry into the stampede deaths and a compensation of Rs 25 to each of the families of the deceased. He wondered if the CM reviewed the plans and Dy CM supervised medical and police deployment.'Mumbai hosted a massive World Cup parade without a single stampede. So why did Bengaluru fail? Because in Karnataka, Congress cares more about publicity than public safety. The fans of RCB and the people of Karnataka deserve the answers. Therefore, I urge the government to order a judicial inquiry and fix accountability for this avoidable Heavy Industry & Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy blamed the government. The primary reason for this massive tragedy is the lack of proper planning and complete failure to take precautionary measures.
