(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: National mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei came from a game down today to defeat Danish pair Mads Vestergaard-Christine Busch Andreasen and enter the Indonesia Open semi-finals. The Malaysian world No 4 dug deep into their reserves before overcoming the 27th ranked Danish pair 17-21, 21-16, 21-14 in a 50-minute battle – their first encounter in international tournaments.
Advertisement Tang Jie-Ee Wei, reunited after a brief separation by the Badminton Association of Malaysia, showed glimpses of their old form, indicating that they are contenders for the Indonesia Open Super 1000 series title. In the semi-finals, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will meet world No 6 Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran, who defeated Malaysia's world No 5 shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in straight sets. The married couple lost 16-21, 12-21 to Dechapol-Supissara in a match that lasted only 33 minutes. The pairs have met eight times this year with Dechapol-Supissara winning five of the encounters. Tang Jie-Ee Wei have won three titles in the World Tour series: the French Orleans Masters and Taipei Open in 2023, and the Korea Open last year. Thinaah's trademark that saved their day — their famed fighting spirit. he world No. 4 Malaysian pair made a spectacular comeback in the Indonesia Open semi-final in Jakarta today, battling from a game down to beat China's world No. 6 Li Yi Jing-Luo Xu Min 12-21, 21-17, 21-11. For that, they were rewarded with their first ever Super 1000 final in their careers. Pearly-Thinaah will meet either China's world No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning or South Korean world No. 3 Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hee in the title decider tomorrow. Despite playing their fourth consecutive World Tour tournament, the Malaysian duo refused to let weariness get in the way. The 65-minute battle was indeed a testament of the grit and maturity that Pearly-Thinaah are known for. "Words can't describe how happy we are today. At one game down, we didn't want to give up easily," said Thinaah. "Today, it was not just about strategy but mental and physical strength and I am really thankful that Pearly was by my side. She smashed a lot. "We just have to be relaxed and maintain our calm, which gives us strength, in the final tomorrow." Pearly said that there was no particular moment where the tide turned although the Chinese pair had been dominant early in the match. "There were some trick shots and we enjoyed those points." The energy-sapping sequence for Pearly-Thinaah began four weeks ago at the Thailand Open where they captured the Super 500 crown. This was followed by a semi-final appearance at the Malaysia Masters and the duo reached the last eight at the Singapore Open last week. The faster and younger Yi Jing (23) and Xup Min (22) set the pace to run away with a 21-12 win in the first game but Pearly, 25, and Thinaah, 27, began their customary fightback after that and ended the contest with a flourish.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : National women's doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M Thinaah stormed into the final of the Indonesia Open in Jakarta this evening after defeating their Chinese opponents, making it their third final appearance this season. The world No 4 pair, who won the Thai Open title last month, had to labour for 63 minutes before beating Li Yi Jing-Luo Xu Min 12-21, 21-17, 21-11 in a match that saw them take an 8-0 lead in the decider before emerging as winners. An epic showdown awaits Pearly-Thinaah in the final as their opponents will either be world No 1 pair Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning from China or South Korea's world No 3 duo Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hee. These pairs have always been difficult opponents for the Malaysians. Today's win marks the third time that Pearly-Thinaah will be playing in a final this season. Their first final appearance was also at the Istora Stadium in Jakarta during the Indonesia Masters in January, where they lost to South Korea's Kim Hye Jeong-Kong Hee-Yong. Last month, they won the Super 500 Thailand Open, and now, they are in the hunt for their first title in the Super 1000 series, which offers a total prize money of US$1.45 million (RM6.13 million). Pearly-Thinaah have won a total of four BWF World Tour titles to date. The winners of the doubles events tomorrow will earn US$107,300 (RM452, 289), and the runners-up US$50,750 (RM214,520). The semi-finalists take home US$20,300 (RM85,898).
