Spain's Grupo Apex makes another acquisition

Yahoo19-06-2025
Spanish snacks maker Grupo Apex has continued its acquisition spree with the acquisition of local peer Chavez y Clark, the owner of the SuperMex brand.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Based in El Puerto de Santa María in Cádiz in southern Spain, Chavez y Clark specialises in producing and distributing corn and wheat tortillas.
The acquisition adds a production plant to Grupo Apex's network of 12 facilities across Spain.
In a statement, Grupo Apex said the deal strengthens its 'industrial presence' in the south of the country.
The transaction also diversifies its product range into 'new, growing categories within the food sector,' such as corn tortillas.
Santiago Sala, the CEO of Grupo Apex, said: "This acquisition fully reflects our strategy of sustained growth and portfolio diversification, leading the development and value generation in the snacks sector.
"We want to grow without excuses, with an increasingly solid structure, and investing in brands and products with high potential both in Spain and Europe."
The SuperMex facility features 1,300m² of production space and a 1,000m² warehouse for finished products.
It employs 36 staff and reported a 2024 turnover of €5.3m ($6.1m), with projected sales of €6m by 2025.
The purchase follows Grupo Apex's recent acquisitions, including Barcelona-based peer, Tot Snack, in 2024 and the purchase of vegetable crisps maker Viube Foods in 2022.
In 2023, the company bought a new plant in the La Rioja region of the country and snapped up local crisp maker Santo Reino for an undisclosed sum.
A year earlier, Grupo Apex acquired the Pop Up popcorn brand from Mexican bakery giant Grupo Bimbo.

Joby Aviation (JOBY) plans to acquire Blade's (BLDE) helicopter rideshare business for up to $125 million as it looks to scale its electric air taxi service across the US and Europe. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Market Catalysts. Now time for some of today's trending tickers. We are watching ComScope, Joby Aviation, and Wayfair. First up, a 10 and a half billion dollar deal between ComScope and Amphenol. ComScope will sell its broadband and cable equipment arm to Amphenol for about 10 and a half billion dollars in cash. It's the second such deal it's done with Amphenol as part of a series of divestitures aimed at paying off its debt. Amphenol, for its part, has made a string of acquisitions in recent years. Last year's deal for ComScope's outdoor wireless networks and distributed antenna systems businesses was the biggest ever by the Connecticut based company at the time. This deal is expected to close in the first half of 2026. Next up is Joby Aviation. It said it plans to buy the helicopter rideshare business of Blade for as much as $125 million in stock or cash. The electric aviation pioneer is looking to expand its battery-powered air taxis into a ready-made market for its aircraft. The acquisition encompasses all of Blade's passenger business, including operations in the U.S. and Europe, as well as the Blade brand. Blade sells per-seat helicopter trips from New York City to nearby airports and resort towns. The company, which went public via SPAC four years ago, has not reported an annual profit since it listed. Company shares are down 10% this year, giving it a market value of just over $300 million. And finally, Wayfair shares are spiking today after the online retailer reported second quarter results that were much stronger than expected. Shares nearing a two-year high as results point to a potential recovery in the furniture market, which has previously felt the impact of a depressed housing market and consumers opting to spend their cash on essentials. Wayfair's average order value in the second quarter was $328, up from $313 in the prior year's quarter. PrimeFlight Aviation buys StratAir cargo handling business

PrimeFlight Aviation Services has acquired the cargo handling operations of StratAir, an international freight forwarder that has decided to focus on its core business, expanding its footprint and business opportunities at three airports, the company announced on Monday. The transaction comes less than two weeks after FreightWaves reported that StratAir's parent company, Seattle-based freight transportation, energy and logistics provider Saltchuk Resources moved to ground the four Boeing 767 widebody freighters operated by subsidiary Northern Air Cargo as the airline retrenches in Hawaii and Alaska utilizing standard-size aircraft on local routes. Sugarland, Texas-based PrimeFlight Aviation Services will absorb StratAir's 120,000-square foot cargo warehouse and workforce at Miami International Airport, as well as ground handling operations in Richmond, Virginia, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, into its cargo division. PrimeFlight Aviation, owned by The Sterling Group and Capitol Meridian Partners, is an agent for passenger airlines at more than 200 locations, mostly in North America, providing baggage handling, fueling, deicing, and other services. It also provides cargo services in 10 domestic markets, including loading and unloading for Amazon Air in Houston, Kansas City, Missouri; St. Louis, Portland, Oregon; and Ontario, California. In Mexico, It processes cargo at a dozen locations for passenger airline Viva Aerobus. In July, PrimeFlight Aviation acquired a Turkish refueling and aircraft maintenance company. Earlier this year, PrimeFlight acquired London-based Airbase GSE, which offers air container repair and logistics services, as well as cabin repair and maintenance, at Heathrow Airport and Frankfurt Airport in Germany. It also bought Airworld Handling, a cargo and mail handler with a border inspection post business at Heathrow. 'This acquisition is a key step forward in our mission to build a world-class, integrated cargo handling network,' Craig Smyth, president and CEO of PrimeFlight, said in a news release. The StratAir transaction follows PrimeFlight's recent acquisition of AirWorld, a cargo and mail handler at London Heathrow Airport. The addition of London and Miami facilities gives PrimeFlight cargo infrastructure at two large international air hubs. 'Together, these investments reflect our commitment to developing a scalable platform focused on high-volume cargo gateways and specialized product handling — supporting the industry's growing demand for time-critical and e-commerce-driven logistics solutions,' Smyth added. Saltchuk Aviation, the former owner of StratAir, supported its growth since acquiring the company in 2016. Northern Air Cargo operated a couple 767 freighters on a charter lease with StratAir. It also laid off 30 employees, in addition to winding down 767 operations. PrimeFlight said StratAir's operations will function under its current brand, but over time the business will transition to the PrimeFlight name. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The legacy StratAir will continue to conduct import/export business from its distribution center near Miami airport, Amanda Byers, a PrimeFlight vice president, confirmed.
