Carlton coach Michael Voss expects a forthright response after revelations of a vile threat levelled against him

News.com.au09-07-2025
Carlton coach Michael Voss has delivered a stern 'you don't belong here' message in response to receiving a vile threat from a fan which is now being investigated by the AFL integrity department.
The threatening text message was left on the MCG's anti-social hotline service during the Blues' loss to Collingwood last Friday night and referenced a 'brutal end to his life'.
It was passed on to the AFL and then the Blues and while not treated as a credible threat was enough for the MCG security team to pass it on.
Voss said he 'dismissed it' at first but then decided it was something that couldn't be tolerated and he hoped for an expected a 'forthright response'.
The Blues coach delivered a passionate response on Wednesday morning, declaring the 'passion' of fans shouldn't be about anger.
'When I turn up and do what I do I do it for Carlton, for the next kid who is going to wear the football club's jumper' he said.
'I do it so our football club can have the sustained success we are all looking for.
'But there's a way to behave and there's a way we need to go about it and when things are tough you have to show that support the right way.
'If that (threat) is a measure for some people on what that should look like, then you don't belong here. We'll make sure we continue to bring a supporter base that would support in the good times, and support in the bad.'
The Blues have been under siege from fans as their season falls apart with aggrieved supporters spraying graffiti over walls at the club's training venue in Carlton after a loss to Port Adelaide.
Those messages actually showed support for Voss, but called for the board to be sacked.
Voss also called out the 'ripple effect' of media scrutiny and how it can lead to extreme actions.
'It reaches deeper,' he said.
'There's a flow on effect and the first thing you always think about is the person beside you of the family member or the team because as result of what I do, and you appreciate there;s an element of scrutiny that comes with that, but then there's a part that is completely unacceptable.
'I think we can all agree that part is unacceptable and we don't tolerate as an industry and we leave that with the AFL integrity department at the moment and I expect a pretty forthright response.'

2025 The Everest: Ciaron Maher-trained, Ozzie Kheir-owned Jimmysstar confirmed for TAB slot

Ciaron Maher will get the chance to win The Everest in consecutive years – and so too will slot holder TAB – after freakish Group 1 winner Jimmysstar became the fourth horse signed up for the $20m race in 2025. Jimmysstar, a two-time Group 1 winner last seen storming to victory in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick in April, becomes the fourth horse to score a slot for The Everest in October. The horse they all have to beat, Hong Kong superstar Ka Ring Rising, is confirmed for a slot and is the hot $1.80 favourite, while Private Harry ($6) and Briasa ($8) also have slots. Champion trainer Maher won the 2024 The Everest with Bella Nipotina and will get the chance to go back to back after Jimmysstar scored the TAB slot. Earlier in his career, Jimmysstar could be an enigmatic galloper and several times went down as raging favourite, including as a $1.26 chance at Flemington and also when starting at $1.75 at Eagle Farm. But the penny has well and truly dropped and he is now widely considered one of the most explosive sprinters in the country. He came from near last to blow away his opposition in this year's Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield and also powered over the top of his rivals in the All Aged. JIMMYSSTAR FROM THE CLOUDS! 🚀 He wins his first Group 1 for @cmaherracing 🥰 @Brown_ethan8 â€' (@Racing) February 22, 2025 • Jimmysstar races in the colours of prominent owner Ozzie Kheir who, along with his close friend Brae Sokolski, tasted Everest success when Yes Yes Yes won for Chris Waller in 2019. Kheir wasn't on track that day but said nothing would keep him away from Randwick when Jimmysstar contested The Everest later this year. 'We were in discussions with TAB for several weeks on Jimmysstar and they were fantastic to deal with and have come to the party with the ownership group's expectations,' Kheir said. @cmaherracing and @Brown_ethan8! 🙌 @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) April 19, 2025 'We are very excited to have one of our favourite horses heading towards The Everest which would not have been in our thought processes only nine months ago. 'Jimmy has been a quirky horse from the outset, which has cost him winning in the past, but now he has turned into a racehorse mentally and from his recent videos of him he looks unreal 'He has so much ability. 'He is not a big horse but he is all muscle.'

Third person charged with murder of Sunshine Coast man Zdravko Bilic

Police have charged a third person with the murder of a Sunshine Coast man who was found dead in his front yard last week. Zdravko Bilic, 57, was allegedly murdered last Sunday night during an alleged break-in. His body was discovered outside his Warana home the next day, with two stab wounds to his stomach. An 18-year-old woman from Bethania, south of Brisbane, was charged with murder on Tuesday. She was also charged with unauthorised use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling with intent by break, enter dwelling and commit, attempted enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, and attempted enter dwelling and commit. She is expected to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday. It follows the arrest of two teenage boys, aged 15 and 17, who were charged with his murder last Thursday. Their cases were mentioned in the Maroochydore Children's Court last week, where they were remanded in custody. Last week, Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said Queensland Police would allege the murder occurred at around 11:30pm on Sunday, July 13, during an altercation after an alleged break-in. The victim's wife, skincare business founder Gry Tomte, was interstate at the time. Mr Bilic's body was discovered when Ms Tomte asked a neighbour to check on him because she had not heard from him on Monday. Mr Bilic has been remembered as a "gentle person" with a "beautiful energy" who was heavily involved in the local community. In a statement on social media last week, Ms Tomte said he was her "everything". "There is no way I can capture the immense grief I feel over losing the most beautiful man. My world for 28 years," she wrote.
