‘Farm 2 U' exhibit brings the best of California agriculture to the San Diego County Fair

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego County Fair is serving up more than carnival rides and cotton candy this year. The 'Farm 2 U: A Taste of California' exhibit is now open daily at O'Brien Hall from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and it's turning heads — and taste buds — by bringing the farm straight to fairgoers. The exhibit is a deep dive into the journey of food from soil to plate, highlighting the vital role agriculture, horticulture and culinary arts play in California, especially in San Diego and Imperial counties. With interactive displays, live presentations and plenty of local flavor, 'Farm 2 U' is designed to both educate and entertain. According to fair organizers, this exhibit is about understanding where our food comes from and meeting the people who make it all happen — from farmers and florists to chefs and brewers. Visitors can explore a wide range of experiences, including: Agriculture From A–Z: Learn about California's top crops and the realities of food production. Production to Processing: Hear from local organic farmers and ranchers during daily talks on the 'Farm 2 U' stage. Smart Food Choices: Discover how to shop local, reduce waste, and boost both health and sustainability. Farm 2 Front Door Market: Connect with local vendors offering homemade and homegrown products for sale. The heart of the exhibit lies in its garden-to-gourmet kitchen stage, where professional chefs and local producers come together for live cooking demonstrations and educational talks. Visitors will learn how to prepare seasonal dishes using locally grown ingredients and traditional techniques such as fermenting, pickling, drying, and smoking. San Diego's rich horticultural history is on full display at the Paul Ecke, Jr. Flower Show and Garden Show, which feature stunning floral arrangements and landscape exhibits celebrating the region's ornamental agriculture industry. Beer and wine lovers won't be disappointed. The craft brew experience highlights San Diego's award-winning breweries with tastings, talks, and brewer meet-and-greets. There is also a Craft Brew Competition. There will also be a wine bar area with pours of award-winning selections from the Toast of the Coast Wine Competition. Wine-tasting classes will also be led by local vintners. Whether you're curious about sustainable farming, want to sharpen your culinary skills, or just looking for a great glass of wine, 'Farm 2 U' promises something for everyone. Connecticut National Guard supports new moms with ‘Operation Shower'

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — The Connecticut National Guard is throwing a baby shower for 20 military moms and moms-to-be separated from loved ones. 'We want them to feel like they have their best friend back home throwing them a shower for them.' 'Gasoline on the flames:' Lamont, Tong, Bysiewicz respond to Trump administration's use of National Guard in California The submarine museum in Groton is transformed into a place with a softer touch to launch Operation Shower. There are gifts, prizes and all things baby for moms who may be feeling alone during an important time in a couple's life. The tradition started 14 years ago, serving military families from all over the country. 'It just means that I feel not alone,' Alana Thompson, wife of a Coast Guard member, said. 'I don't get a baby shower. I didn't get a baby shower with my first one either, so this is very special.' The Traveler's PGA Championship is a sponsor of the non-profit organization. Last year's tournament raised just over $3.2 million for the charities they serve. 'People come out support the tournament,' Nathan Grube, Traveler's Championship Tournament director, said. 'You see some of the best players in the world; Scottie Scheffler, Rory Mcllroy, you see compete for a $20 million prize and guess what? Whatever money we make we give back to charities like this.' The gesture can be life-changing for some moms who are sometimes just looking to meet others sharing the same experience. 'This was our first duty station, his first time leaving so I've never experienced this before,' Erika Hannah, mom-to-be, said. 'I'm not going to lie. The first time is the hardest.'
