'In West Bengal, Trinamool, for its self-interest, is putting Bengali identity at stake. Infiltration has increased, with a forged documents ecosystem developed by TMC. Saying "
Viksit Bangla
" is PM's guarantee, Modi said Bengal can become one of the top industrial states in the country after BJP is voted to power. "Trinamool stands as a wall, blocking the path of development and growth in the state. If that wall falls, Bengal will move ahead in the path of development and become one of the fastest growing states in the country.'
'It is important to bring investment to Bengal. But till the Trinamool government is in power, it will never allow it. In the last decade, the party has created a situation, which was anti-investment and anti-employment, Modi said. He criticized the state for Murshidabad riots, violence and police probe and questioned how can anyone invest in such a situation. Modi raised the slogan, 'TMC hatao-Bangla Banchao.'
Modi touched upon the precarious condition in the education sector and expressed sympathy for the SSC Teachers who have lost jobs and how many families are affected. He spoke about children's future in 'deep darkness' due to the lack of teachers in schools. 'Situation is such that the court was even forced to refer to it as 'a systematic fraud',' Modi said.
A government which talks about Ma Mati Manush, cannot protect its women, PM said, adding, that 'Torture on women gives deep anguish and pain.' Modi also pointed out about lack of safety of women prevails in colleges, referring to the RG Kar incident, and pointed out about the recent rape in South Kolkata Law college in Kolkata.
'BJP has big dreams for Bengal- a prosperous Bengal, a 'Viksit Bengal'-several projects have been inaugurated today to make the dream true. West Bengal's land is full of inspiration. This country's first industry minister Syma Prasad's land, gave India's first industrial policy. This is the land of Dr BC Ray who chose Durgapur for his big vision. Dwarkanath was a great reformer to Bengal and had shown path banking reforms in that time,' PM said.
'Industry had prospered in Durgapur. But today youth is forced to exodus-forced to go to other states. The industries are closed. We need to bring Bengal out of this,' he said.
'Bengal will be the engine of India's growth. We will make Bharat Viksit by 2047. Durgapur gets Rs 5400 crore project foundation inaugurated and the Steel City will bloom. it will help make lives of Bengal easy,' PM said. The PM laid the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Bankura and Purulia worth around Rs 1,950 crore. Syndicate raj
in Bengal
Slamming syndicate raj, extortion and goonda-raj of Trinamool in Bengal, the Prime Minister said, 'True 'Parivartan' will come once BJP comes to power. The BJP has big dreams for West Bengal and it wants to witness a prosperous Bengal.'
"Syndicate raj prevails here, extortions done and TMC goons threaten people, 'Goonda tax' prevails in Bengal and these factors block investments here. The state government gives free hand for corruption. This is the reason-investors have left Bengal despite Bengal being the land of opportunities,' Modi said.
After the BJP government came to power in Assam, Odisha and Tripura, these states have seen development, he said. 'Odisha will soon be the country's fastest developing states in the country soon'.

INDIA Bloc To Hold First Meet Since 2024 Polls Today: Who'll Attend, Who'll Skip After AAP's Exit?
AAP announced its exit from Opposition's INDIA bloc. The grouping is set to hold its first meeting since the 2024 Lok Sabha polls today. Ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, the Opposition parties of the INDIA bloc will hold an online meeting on Saturday evening to strategise on the issues to be raised during the session that begins on Monday. The meeting of the INDIA bloc will take place after a long gap and will be the first since last year's Lok Sabha Elections in which the Opposition put up a decent fight but failed to dislodge the BJP-led NDA from power at the Centre. The meeting comes on the heels of the Aam Aadmi Party's announcement of its exit from the bloc that was formed ahead of the general elections to take on the Narendra Modi government. The grouping has since then been in tatters, as the allies were nowhere to be seen fighting as partners in the Assembly polls that followed the national elections – Haryana and Delhi being the prime examples. Who Will Attend Today's INDIA Bloc Meet? The AAP has announced its exit from the bloc and is unlikely to register its presence in the online meet. The party said that the INDIA bloc 'failed to stay united and take steps to further its agenda". West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's TMC, which earlier said that it would skip the meeting, has now affirmed its participation through Abhishek Banerjee. No other ally of the group has announced their unavailability to attend the meeting that is set to take place at 7 pm. 'A meeting of the leaders of the INDIA parties will be held online on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 7 pm to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country," Congress general secretary KC Venugopal tweeted on Thursday. The Opposition is expected to raise issues such as the electoral roll revision in Bihar, the Pahalgam terror attack, and Operation Sindoor. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh reacted to the AAP's announcement to quit the bloc and said that all parties of the alliance have been invited. 'I cannot say anything about that. All parties of the India Alliance have been invited. Those who want will come and those who stay separated will not come," he told news agency ANI. He reaffirmed the unity of the grouping and said that the prominent leaders of respective parties will meet online on Saturday and later hold an in-person meeting in the national capital. 'People would not be able to come to Delhi on Saturday due to different programmes. It has been decided that we will have an online meeting before the Parliament session. After that, we will meet in Delhi also," news agency PTI quoted Jairam as saying. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Rs 1,950 crore city gas distribution project in Bankura, Purulia to be completed by FY30
The project will establish 29 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations for vehicular fuel across the two districts in line with authorisation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), a statement said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone for the project that aims to provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to both retail households and industrial projects in the two districts of West Bengal. Kolkata, Jul 18 (PTI) The Rs 1,950 crore City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in West Bengal's Bankura and Purulia districts aims to provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to 5.55 lakh households, over 250 commercial units, and more than 35 industrial consumers, officials said. The project is scheduled for completion by March 15, 2030. Once operational, it is expected to serve a population of over 65 lakh with cleaner, reliable, and cost-effective fuel solutions, Bharat Petroleum said. According to BPCL Director (Refineries) and acting Chairman & Managing Director, Sanjay Khanna, the initiative marks a significant step towards expanding access to clean and affordable energy in India. The project is also expected to create over 15 lakh man-days of direct and indirect employment, supporting local economies in Bankura and Purulia. The CGD network will contribute to India's net-zero ambitions by promoting natural gas as a cleaner alternative to traditional fuels. It is projected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 27 per cent, or 191,000 metric tonnes over 25 years — equivalent to planting nearly 3.46 lakh trees annually. MoU to revamp ‘Doi Ghat' as part of Hooghly riverfront development
The name Doi Ghat is derived from 'Doi' or curd in Bengali, reflecting its past as a hub where dairy products and other goods arrived in earthen pots from Howrah. The Doi Ghat holds historical significance as a key landing point for the dairy trade between Howrah and Kolkata. Kolkata, Jul 18 (PTI) The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMPK) Kolkata has partnered with TNS Logi-Park Private Ltd to redevelop and beautify the historic 'Doi Ghat' on the banks of the Hooghly River, furthering its efforts to rejuvenate the city's riverfront. Howrah was once known for its flourishing dairy sector. Strategically located at the confluence of the Adi Ganga and the Hooghly's main channel, the ghat played an important role in riverine trade and daily exchanges between rural Bengal and the then growing city of Calcutta. The ghat will undergo redevelopment to enhance its heritage character while modernising its infrastructure. The project will also improve access and public utilities at the site. SMPK has been actively working to restore several historic ghats as part of its broader Hooghly riverfront beautification drive. Similar partnerships have already been undertaken for the renovation of Kumartuli and Nimtala ghats. Once completed, the revamped Doi Ghat is expected to contribute to tourism, community engagement, and the preservation of Kolkata's riverine heritage.
