Two dead, 60 evacuated after fire breaks out in Bukit Merah flat
Two people have died after a fire broke out in a fourth-floor unit at Block 106 in Jalan Bukit Merah. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it responded to the fire at about 4pm and evacuated about 60 people. Firefighters found the living room and bedroom of the unit on fire. The police said a 34-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman — who were found unconscious in the kitchen — were conveyed to the hospital and subsequently died. Another two people from the neighbouring units were also sent to hospital. The police do not suspect foul play. Claudia Lim reports.
