King Mohammed VI Presides Over Laylat al-Qadr Vigil at the Royal Palace
During the ceremony, the monarch performed the Isha (evening) and Taraweeh prayers while seated , following his recent shoulder surgery.
The King was accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, and Prince Moulay Ismail.
Several civil and military officials were also present, including Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Islamic Affairs, to residents of the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors, as well as representatives of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Morocco.
A statement from the Royal Palace confirmed that the measure for the monarch to perform the prayers seated was taken with consideration of the King's health condition. Even while in recovery , the Palace emphasized that the King is dedicated to observing this significant religious occasion in accordance with established traditions.
The statement concluded by reaffirming that, in his capacity as Commander of the Faithful, King Mohammed VI places great importance on religious occasions and consistently strives to observe them in line with the Prophet Muhammed's teachings.
In a related note, last month, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced the cancellation of the prestigious Hassanian Lectures (Dorouss El Hassaniya) for Ramadan 1446/2025, marking a significant departure from one of Morocco's most important religious traditions.
This decision was made because the King would not be able to be in attendance, as he was recovering from the shoulder surgery he underwent in December of 2024. The monarch had sustained a humeral fracture during routine physical activity.
Laylat al-Qadr, observed during one of the last ten nights of Ramadan, is considered the holiest night in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad.
The sacred night is a time of intense prayer, reflection, and devotion, as Muslims worldwide seek divine mercy and blessings. It is believed to be 'better than a thousand months,' making it an evening of immense significance for believers. Tags: King Mohammed VILaylat al-Qadrramadan 2025

King Mohammed VI Pardons 591 People on Youth Day
Rabat — King Mohammed VI has granted a royal pardon to 591 people to mark Morocco's Youth Day celebration this year, which coincides with his 62nd birthday. The Ministry of Justice announced the decision, which affects both imprisoned individuals and those living freely after their court sentences. The pardon covers people sentenced by various courts across Morocco. Of the 591 people who received pardons, 445 remain in prison while 146 live freely in their communities. Prisoners receive relief Among the 445 imprisoned individuals, most received sentence reductions rather than complete pardons. The pardon reduced prison sentences for 441 inmates and granted full pardons to three others. One prisoner serving a life sentence received a commutation to a fixed-term prison sentence, giving them hope for eventual release. Free citizens benefit too The royal pardon also reached 146 people who no longer serve time in prison but still face legal consequences from their convictions. The King forgave financial penalties for 91 of these individuals, removing the burden of outstanding fines. Eight people received pardons from both prison sentences and financial penalties, while another eight had their prison sentences forgiven but must still pay their fines. The remaining 39 people received pardons from prison sentences they had not yet completed or still owed. Morocco's Youth Day falls on August 21 each year, celebrating the country's young people and their contributions to society. UN Commends Morocco's Major Gaza Aid Shipment
Rabat — The United Nations commended Morocco's latest initiative to send humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, who are enduring the catastrophe of Israeli-induced starvation. King Mohammed VI has ordered the delivery of 100 tons of food supplies and medicines for the aid shipment to assist the Gaza population. The UN's Secretary General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarri described the move as 'generous' amid the ongoing genocidal siege of the enclave. Speaking to Morocco's official news agency (MAP), Durraji said the UN welcomes the King's decision to provide significant humanitarian assistance to Gaza's population. 'We commend the generosity and the decision taken by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to send important humanitarian aid for the population of Gaza,' Dujarric said. Deploring the catastrophic situation in which people in Gaza lack basic needs, the UN spokesman pointed out that Morocco's aid shipment will help address the suffering and provide the necessary needs. 'Gaza residents lack everything – food, medicine, shelter,' Dujarric said. Meanwhile, he addressed the international community to do 'as much as possible' to push for easing the flow of humanitarian aid to the genocide-torn enclave. The spokesperson also called for pressure on all parties to accept an immediate ceasefire. Israeli Occupation Forces have been denying entry of food and medical aid since March 18, inducing what international organizations call a 'weapon of war.' Morocco's shipment of additional aid comes at a time when the IOF's blockade has killed over 269 deaths, including 112 children, because of famine-related issues. Announcing Morocco's new shipment, the King ensured that aircraft would deliver this humanitarian aid, just like previous shipments, directly and urgently to Palestinian beneficiaries. Morocco has maintained its commitment to supporting Palestinians through multiple aid deliveries during the genocide on Gaza. The King's latest initiative demonstrates Morocco's continued solidarity with Gaza residents facing severe, catastrophic humanitarian challenges due to Israel's genocide. Revolution of the King and the People: King Grants Royal Pardon to 881 Individuals
Marrakech – On the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, King Mohammed VI has granted royal pardons to 881 individuals, including 676 currently in detention and 205 at liberty, the Ministry of Justice announced on Tuesday. Among those in detention, nine received pardons for their remaining prison or detention sentences, while 667 benefited from sentence reductions. For those not currently incarcerated, 38 individuals received pardons for their prison sentences or remaining terms, 10 had their prison sentences forgiven while maintaining fines, and 142 were pardoned from fines only. Additionally, 13 people received pardons for both prison sentences and fines, and two individuals had their fines and remaining prison terms forgiven. This humanitarian initiative continues the monarch's tradition of granting royal clemency during major national celebrations and commemorations. Just last month, on July 29, King Mohammed VI pardoned 19,673 people on the occasion of Throne Day, marking the 26th anniversary of his accession to the throne. That larger pardon included 2,415 standard pardons and 17,258 exceptional clemency measures. The Revolution of the King and the People, commemorated annually on August 20, marks a pivotal moment in Morocco's history when the colonial authorities forced King Mohammed V and the Royal Family into exile on August 20, 1953. This act, intended to break the bond between the throne and the people, instead ignited nationwide resistance that ultimately led to the return of the exiled king on November 16, 1955, and paved the way for Morocco's independence. The anniversary coincides with the celebration of King Mohammed VI's 62nd birthday and serves as a reminder of the historic symbiosis between the monarchy and the Moroccan people in their struggle for freedom, independence, and territorial unity.
