Sabrina Carpenter, Busta Rhymes to perform at MTV Video Music Awards

Aug. 18 (UPI) -- MTV has announced a first round of performers and honorees for the MTV Music Video Awards.
Alex Warren, Busta Rhymes, J Balvin ft. DJ Snake, Ricky Martin, Sabrina Carpenter and Sombr will take the stage at the awards show in September.
J Balvin will perform the live premiere of "Noventa," his song with DJ Snake, as well as "Zun Zun" with Justin Quiles and Lenny Tavárez.
In addition, Rhymes will be honored with the first-ever MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award, while Martin will receive the first-ever Latin Icon Award.
LL Cool J was previously announced to host the MTV VMAs Sept. 7 at UBS Arena in New York. The show will air at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS and MTV, and also stream on Paramount+.
Lady Gaga leads this year's nominees with 12 nominations, including Video of the Year. Bruno Mars follows with 11 nominations, Kendrick Lamar with 10, and Rosé and Sabrina Carpenter with eight each.

Summer must be coming to a close, because MTV has revealed the first round of performers for the 2025 Video Music Awards. On Monday, MTV announced Sabrina Carpenter, Ricky Martin, Busta Rhymes, Alex Warren, J Balvin ft. DJ Snake and sombr as the initial wave of star performers set to take the stage at this year's show. Some of those performers will be receiving honors that night too: Rhymes will be honored with the MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award, while Martin will receive the Latin Icon Award. The awards show, which typically takes place in late August or early September, will air live on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS for the first time and will simultaneously be streamed on MTV and Paramount+. The evening's festivities, hosted by rapper and actor LL Cool J, will go down at New York's UBS Arena. Take a closer look at all the MTV VMA performers that have been announced so far: Sabrina Carpenter Carpenter, whose seventh studio album, Man's Best Friend, comes out on Aug. 29, will make her return to the VMAs main stage. The 'Man Child' pop star is a top contender this year with eight nominations, including Video of the Year for 'Manchild' and Best Album for Short n' Sweet. Ricky Martin Martin will make history as the first-ever artist to receive the Latin Icon Award at the MTV VMAs. The acclaimed Latin singer will make his VMAs return 26 years after he made history as the first male Latin artist to win Best Pop Video for 'Livin' la Vida Loca.' Busta Rhymes Rhymes will receive the first-ever MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award, which celebrates an artist who's had a 'boundary-breaking cultural impact and an indomitable music career spanning 20 million albums worldwide,' according to an MTV press release. Alex Warren Warren, who is recognized as the newest MTV PUSH artist, will make his VMAs debut. This year he's up for three VMAs: Best New Artist, as well as Best Pop and Song of the Year for his hit single 'Ordinary.' J Balvin ft. DJ Snake Balvin will take the VMAs stage alongside Latin singers Justin Quiles and Lenny Tavárez to perform their hit track 'Zun Zun,' before being joined by DJ Snake to premiere their collaborative song 'Noventa' live. Nominated at this year's VMAs for Best Latin for his song 'Rio,' Balvin is currently the most winning Latin artist in VMAs history. sombr Singer-songwriter sombr will make his awards show debut during the 2025 MTV VMAs. "Excited to partner with @appletv on this one," Johnson wrote on Instagram. "I love the movie. It's a ton of fun. So many funny performances." Johnson plays "a washed-up tennis pro who, desperate to save a struggling club and earn his father's respect, is compelled to break a sacred vow and do the unthinkable: play pickleball," the streaming service said in a press release Monday. Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, Chloe Fineman, Aaron Chen, Patton Oswalt, Chris Parnell and Christine Taylor co-star in the series, which is being produced by Ben Stiller. Stiller and Apple TV+ previously collaborated on the sci-fi dramedy Severance. Josh Greenbaum -- whose credits include Will & Harper, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and the upcoming Spaceballs 2 -- is helming The Dink. No release date has been announced yet. File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Glenn Close has landed the lead in Channel 4's drama, Maud, which is based on Helene Tursten's short story collections, An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good and An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed. Close will play the titular heroine, described by the British network as a "hilariously brusque, cantankerous, and ruthless older woman... and those are her nice qualities. She's also a killer with a tortured past." Filming on the six-part series is to take place later this year in London. No premiere date or additional casting have been announced yet. "Maud is a deliciously dark and daring drama and the amazing Glenn Close will bring a thrilling complexity to the role," Gwawr Lloyd, the network's acting head of drama, said in a press release Monday. Close's credits include The Big Chill, Dangerous Liaisons, Fatal Attraction, Reversal of Fortune, The Paper, 101 Dalmatians, Damages and Tehran.
