Commanders coach Dan Quinn receives prestigious honor
Dan Quinn could not have imagined a better first season as head coach of the Washington Commanders. Taking over a 4-13 team, Quinn led Washington to a 12-5 record and an appearance in the NFC championship game. It was the franchise's best season in 33 years.
Quinn should have been named NFL Coach of the Year but fell short. However, Quinn received a much more significant honor this week when his alma mater, Salisbury University, announced that he would be the University's Commencement speaker for its 100th graduating class.

As a student, Quinn was a two-sport athlete, excelling in track and field and football. He was inducted into the SU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. While at SU, he met Stacey, an athletic trainer. The two have been supporters of SU ever since, creating three endowments, benefitting football, track and field, and athletic training.
On the gridiron, he was a feared defensive lineman, recording 145 total tackles. A regular in the lineup during his final three years, Quinn played in all 28 games, with 135 tackles, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown. As a thrower on the track and field team, Quinn set the school record in the hammer throw (168' 8'), which stood for nearly 20 years, until 2012.
If you asked Quinn, he'd likely tell you that being the Commencement speaker at his alma mater meant more than an individual coaching award. Quinn grew up in Morristown, New Jersey, before attending Salisbury University, approximately two hours from Washington's home field in Landover, Maryland.

Marshon Lattimore wants to prove himself to Commanders
The Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship Game last season, but it wasn't because their midseason trade for cornerback Marshon Lattimore was a home run. Lattimore was dealing with a hamstring injury when he was acquired from the Saints and was inactive for four games before making his Washington debut. 'Just the burst,' Lattimore said, via the team's website. 'Just getting all my breaks. I was dealing with a hamstring, and that takes a lot out of you. It takes a long time to heal. I was just trying to battle through that, but now, since I got a full offseason, I feel explosive.' Getting the Lattimore of old in the secondary this season would be a case of better late than never for the Commanders and it would make them a tougher team to throw against this time around.

SEATTLE (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike had 21 points and 10 rebounds, Erica Wheeler added 20 points and six assists and the Seattle Storm ended Minnesota's season-opening winning streak at nine, beating the Lynx 94-84 on Wednesday night. After Minnesota had a basket taken away following an official review for a shot-clock violation, Skylar Diggins made a 3-pointer to give Seattle (6-4) an 83-79 lead. Diggins also found Ezi Magbegor under the basket for a six-point advantage. Kayla McBridemade a 3-pointer from the wing with 1:07 left to pull Minnesota (9-1) to 85-84, but Wheeler answered with a 3-pointer at the other end.
