Dev Patel is set to write, direct and star in period revenge drama The Peasant
Dev Patel is prepared to unleash his filmmaking skills once again. The Slumdog Millionaire star is all set to write, direct and star in an upcoming period revenge drama, The Peasant, set in medieval India. The Peasant marks Dev's second directorial as he reunites with Thunder Road Pictures, the company behind his breakout directorial debut Monkey Man.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be a high-adrenaline revenge actioner with shades of Braveheart and John Wick mashed with the notes of King Arthur. Set in the 1300s, the film centers around a shepherd who unleashes a furious campaign against a group of mercenary knights who ravaged his community, revealing himself to be much more than an ordinary man.
Fifth season, which is also financing and producing the drama, first collaborated on the project with screenwriter Will Dunn, who had previously worked on Ms Marvel. It was supposed to have an Italian setting with pope-connected story. The project had reportedly generated quite a buzz as it also landed on the prestigious 2023 Black List, the annual directory of most popular unproduced screenplays. However, now, under Dev's guidance, the film has shifted its plot to India to make it look more colourfully vibrant and almost mystical. The producers are hoping to turn the feature into a franchise, too.
In Monkey Man, Dev portrays an underdog street fighter who ends up becoming a vigilante superhero. His character fights against the mighty and rich who oppress the downtrodden and are also responsible for his mother's death. Monkey Man also stars Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Sikandar Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala, Ashwini Kalsekar, Aditi Kalkunthe and Makarand Deshpande in key roles.

Storm brews around Sourav Ganguly's biopic as Cinematographer Pratik Shah is likely to be pulled out from Rajkummar Rao starrer amid sexual misconduct allegations, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 'The recce was on till recently, and Shah was in London for the same. Allegations against him surfaced just around the time he returned to India. The makers are likely to drop him from the project and will now naturally look for a replacement before beginning production,' THR cited a source as saying. The Dharma Productions, in a statement on Saturday, stated their zero-tolerance policy against such cases. 'At Dharma Productions, we have a zero tolerance policy against inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment towards any individual working with us in any capacity, and we treat sexual harassment cases very seriously," TOI quoted Karan Johar's production house Dharma Productions as saying. 'Mr. Pratik Shah was a freelancer on the project Homebound and was working on it for a limited period. His engagement with us has been completed. During this limited period, our internal committee for POSH didn't receive any complaints against him from any cast or crew on our film Homebound," it added.

Aamir Khan is all set for the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. The RS Prasanna directorial is scheduled to hit cinema screens on June 20. Up next, the superstar will begin work on his long-cherished dream project, Mahabharat. In a recent interview with Raj Shamani, Aamir hinted that Mahabharat might be his final project. Speaking about the scale of bringing the mythological epic to life on screen, Aamir Khan said, 'It's layered, it has emotion, it has scale, everything you find in the world, you will find in Mahabharat…Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do. I cannot do anything after this, as the material of this film is going to be like that." He added, "I hope that I die with my shoes on, but since you are asking, this is the one thing I can think of. Perhaps after this, I will feel that I don't need to do anything else." In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir Khan shared his vision for Mahabharat. 'That's one of my biggest ambitions," the actor said, admitting that even developing the script would take years. "We'll see who we should cast based on who's appropriate for which part. I don't think you can tell the 'Mahabharat' in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale," he added. Noting that it may be a multi-director project, he concluded, "To complete it within a set time, we will need more than one director."
