After a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the tournament, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) finally cleared the decks for the 2025 Asia Cup 2025 as the official schedule for the event was unveiled on Saturday.
After the recent geopolitical tensions between Pakistan and India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had threatened to pull out of the ACC general body meeting that was slated to be held in Dhaka on Wednesday, chaired by ACC president and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi. However, with the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket chiefs attending the meeting through video conferencing, the schedule for the September event was finalised.
With only seven months left until the next T20 World Cup iteration to be played in India and Sri Lanka, the continental tournament will return to the T20 format. The previous edition of the Asia Cup was played in the ODI format on the road to the 2023 Cricket World Cup, where India demolished hosts Sri Lanka to lift the title.

While the BCCI are the designated host, the tournament will be played in a neutral setting in the United Arab Emirates with eight teams in contention. Besides India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh the competition will comprise Hong Kong, UAE and Oman.
India and Pakistan are slated to clash on September 14. The teams last met in an ODI during the Champions Trophy at the same venue, with India beating Pakistan by six wickets on the back of Virat Kohli's century. Their last T20 meeting came during the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York with a Rohit Sharma-led Indian side edging their rivals by six runs.

Asia Cup 2025: Hong Kong Name Kaushal Silva As Head Coach

Hong Kong's most recent appearance was at the Asia Pacific Cricket Champions Trophy in Singapore, where they finished runners-up. Kaushal Silva, a former Sri Lanka Test cricketer, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Hong Kong men's cricket team. His appointment comes at an opportune moment as Hong Kong prepare for the upcoming 2025 Asia Cup. They will kick off the tournament against Afghanistan on September 9, followed by group-stage matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Group B. Silva brings extensive experience to his new role. Between 2011 and 2018, he played 39 Tests for Sri Lanka, establishing himself as a dedicated wicketkeeper-opener. In his first-class career, he accumulated 13,932 runs in 209 matches, including 41 centuries, three of which were at the international level. Since his retirement in 2019, Silva has been coaching in Sri Lanka, England, and Australia. This marks his first appointment as the head coach of an international team. Burji Shroff, chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, China, expressed confidence in Silva's appointment, saying that Kaushal's dedication to nurturing and developing talent aligns with their vision for the future of cricket in Hong Kong. They believe that under his leadership, the team can enhance its competitive standing and promote the sport within the community. Silva stated that his focus will be on instilling a strong work ethic and a winning mentality in the senior squad, as well as identifying and nurturing new talent for continued growth. Hong Kong's most recent appearance was at the Asia Pacific Cricket Champions Trophy in Singapore, where they finished as runners-up after losing to Malaysia in the final. With Silva now at the helm, the team aims to build on that performance and make a significant impact in the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE. 'We had a Test team': Virat Kohli's brother subtle dig at Team India bowlers

Virat Kohli (AFP Photo) NEW DELHI: India's bowlers struggled to match England's intensity during the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. After being bowled out for 358 in the first innings, India failed to replicate England's bowling performance. The hosts capitalised on batting-friendly conditions and posted a mammoth 669, taking a commanding 311-run lead. Virat Kohli 's brother, Vikas Kohli, appeared to take a veiled dig at India's bowling unit following their lacklustre performance. Posting on Threads, he wrote: 'Not long ago, we had a Test team where our bowlers used to take 20 wickets,' seemingly alluding to the era under Virat Kohli's captaincy. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar led the resistance with unbeaten centuries, helping India bat out more than five sessions to force a draw. India finished Day 5 at 425/4, with Jadeja (107*) and Sundar (101*) stitching a crucial 203-run stand for the fifth wicket. Their defiance ensured India escaped defeat, despite England's early breakthroughs — dismissing captain Shubman Gill and KL Rahul in the first session. The hosts went wicketless in the final two sessions of the match. It was his second straight POTM award in the series. This draw marked India's first at Old Trafford in 35 years — the last instance coming in 1990. Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy: Who Will Take Trophy Home If India Win Final Test And Series Ends In Draw? Check Here

IND vs ENG: India pulled off a dramatic escape on Sunday, July 27, as they denied England a series win in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. The hosts were firm favourites to seal the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, needing just eight Indian wickets with nearly two days to play. However, India's resilience with the bat ensured the match ended in a draw, keeping the series alive at 2-1 in England's favour. Rahul and Gill Lay the Foundation Facing a daunting task, India's survival effort began with KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, who displayed remarkable patience and discipline to bat through the entirety of Day 4. Their stand wore down the English bowling attack and prevented early breakthroughs that could have led to a collapse. Jadeja and Sundar's Match-Saving Partnership On the final day, India were still under pressure, but Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar rose to the occasion. The pair put together an unbroken 203-run partnership that not only frustrated England but also shifted the momentum entirely. Sundar brought up his maiden Test century, while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 107, showcasing grit and maturity. Eventually, with the result inevitable, both teams agreed to shake hands and end the match as a draw—much to India's relief and England's disappointment. Series Heads to The Oval with Everything to Play For With the fourth Test drawn, the five-match series now stands at 2-1 in England's favour. The final Test will be played at The Oval starting Thursday, and India will need to win to level the series. A 2-2 result would be a moral victory for the visitors after being 2-1 down, but the big question remains who would retain the trophy? Who Will Hold the Trophy If Series Is Drawn? According to tradition in most bilateral Test series, if a series ends in a draw, the team that won the previous edition retains the trophy. In this case, while the 2021 Pataudi Trophy ended in a draw, England had beaten India 4-1 in 2018, technically making them the holders. However, the current series marks the inaugural edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, replacing the Pataudi Trophy. This raises uncertainty over whether the 2018 result still applies or if a drawn series would mean the trophy is shared. As of now, neither the BCCI nor the ECB has issued an official clarification on the retention rules for the new trophy in the event of a drawn series.
