#Opinion: Readers share why they are proudly South African

Josh Daniel – The humor, the warmth, the way strangers become family. South Africans moan… but we also make a plan. Symantha Trusler – South Africa is genuinely a rainbow nation. Its people are the most beautiful, friendly and interesting – each with its own heritage, language and culture. We embrace each other's uniqueness and we love deeply. Yes we complain about the politics but don't say anything about our fellow South Africans or our rugby and we will defend, protect and stand together as one. Together we can move mountains and come 2026 we are going to make SA great again. Because our people deserve it. May Coomer Coaching – Oh my goodness so many things – our beautiful land, heritage, amazing people, our resilience and Ubuntu spirit, our animals and food! We are known for our kindness and hard working ethic. We are pretty damn awesome. Proudly South African. Bulelwa Bullet Mvulana – Beautiful country with loving and humorous people. Kingswood Golf Estate in George in October last year welcomed the birth of its first ever black springbok. Those who have enjoyed a round at the well-known Garden Route course will have encountered numerous springbok roaming the fairways – and rough – with around 45 reportedly on the estate. However, until the birth, the course had never had a 'one in a million' black springbok born. The estate's Community Manager, Dan de Wet, confirmed at the time that the new-born was a ram and he knew who the parents were. Springboks black in colour are extremely uncommon because of a unique genetic mutation. While the exact quantities are unclear, they are substantially rarer than their more common counterparts seen widely throughout South Africa. The public took to social media in their numbers to share their thoughts on the name that should be given to the ram, and after several days of deliberation, one was decided upon. The top 10 name suggestions included Charkie, Marmite, Rassie, Oreo, Kolisi, Midnight, Black Beauty, KingsBok and Allblack. The estate, however, opted to name him Siya, in honour of Springbok captain Siya Kolisi. This week, The South African website received pictures of 'Siya' as he continues to roam the fairways as he fast approaches his first birthday. Siya has a more brown coat than black these days. Siya Kolisi sings his heart out during Springbok national anthem

Siya Kolisi brought the gees during the performance of the national anthem – as sung by Lloyd Cele – at the Springboks vs Wallabies game at Ellis Park Stadium. The former Idols South Africa star was the latest artist to sing ahead of a South African rugby match. Like many South Africans, Siya Kolisi wore his heart on his sleeve whilst singing the national anthem. The Springbok captain – who had his eyes closed – belted out the words to Nkosi Sikel iAfrika , whilst joining arms with a mascot and fellow player, Ox Nche. On social media, the rugby star was praised for his passion and patriotism. X user @myronnaicker posted: 'Siya Kolisi's rendition of our national anthem is magnetic. What a great ambassador and inspiration he is'. The South African national anthem was performed by Idols SA season 6 runner-up Lloyd Cele. TV presenter and singer Lee Scott performed the Australian national anthem. Siya Kolisi is widely known for his ability to unite South Africans through sport and for practising the spirit of Ubuntu. During the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the now 35-year-old said in a post-match interview: 'There's so much going wrong in our country. We are the last line of defence. There's so much division in the country. It is possible to work together as South Africans, not just on the rugby field but in life in general. 'We can't go away from that, 1995, without that, I wouldn't be here. For people who look like me, I've got a job to give whatever I can to the jersey, to show they can get opportunities like this.' Last year, Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie praised the Springboks and captain Siya Kolisi for being the best squad the country has ever seen.
