Florida's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium among top 10 greatest venues in college football
College football is a cornerstone tradition in the United States that has lasted for well over a century, and there are few places better to experience the exhilaration of sports than at a university's home stadium.
In fact, the largest sports venues in the nation belong to collegiate programs scattered across the map. Eight schools have home fields that can hold over 100,000 screaming fans, while the largest venue outside of the amateur gridiron belongs to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which serves as the home of both the New York Jets and New York Giants and ranks 15th overall with a maximum capacity of 82,500.
So we all know that college football stadiums reign supreme. Which one offers the absolute best game day experience?
Carter Bahns of 247Sports tackled this topic by ranking college football's 10 greatest stadium atmospheres, including the University of Florida's storied Ben Hill Griffin Stadium — affectionately known as the Swamp since Steve Spurrier's tenure as head coach. He ranks Gainesville's premier landmark at No. 9 in the nation, following the Auburn Tigers' Jordan-Hare Stadium and ahead of the Nebraska Cornhuskers' Memorial Stadium.
"The home-field advantage and an improving roster combined to help Florida close last season with a surprisingly potent surge that included a pair of ranked November victories at The Swamp. The Gators' fan support is about as reliable as it comes, and the heat and humidity inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium play an equal role in dragging down opponents," Bahns notes.
"From the Gator Chomp to the 'I Won't Back Down' sing-along, Florida fans have some of the best traditions out there. And when visitors line up for crucial plays, there are few stadiums louder than this one."
Take a look below at the full standings, including each stadium's overall capacity and ranking among all sports venues in the U.S.

Haason Reddick Gives Bizarre Buccaneers' OTA Update
Haason Reddick Gives Bizarre Buccaneers' OTA Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The month of May is usually a time for organizations around the league to hit the practice field for offseason workouts. It's usually a good time for disgruntled players to also try and make headway on new deals with their team. Advertisement The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a unique situation in regards to that. They don't really have any player in line for major contract extensions, yet have a very clear absence from OTAs that is turning heads. Haason Reddick, the former All-Pro with the Philadelphia Eagles, is on his third team in as many years. He signed a free agent deal with the Buccaneers for over $14 million - a stark decrease from the amount he has been looking for over the last few years. Even still, Reddick missed most of the 2024 season while holding out for a new contract with the New York Jets. It would make sense for him to show up and be dominant with his new team in Tampa Bay. That isn't what is happening, though. Reddick has remained away from the Buccaneers organization during voluntary workouts. Advertisement Bordering on the even further bizarre, Reddick posted a story on his Instagram of him working out titled "Great work day". Here's a question - why exactly isn't Reddick working out with his new team? Tampa Bay runs a different scheme than the Jets and Eagles do. Why does Reddick think he'll be able to pick that up easily? The reality is that Reddick has become a major enigma in NFL circles. The more he stays away from the team during the voluntary workout phase, the weirder this whole situation looks. New York Giants Rookie Cam Skattebo's NFL Knowledge Ages Fans
New York Giants Rookie Cam Skattebo's NFL Knowledge Ages Fans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Giants drafted former Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo with the 105th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Skattebo is a bruising running back who should slot in nicely to New York's running back rotation. Advertisement Skattebo brings an impressive resume to the NFL, rushing for 1,711 yards and crossing the end zone 24 times in the Pac-12 last season. At 23 years old, Skattebo will be among the youngest players on the field in each NFL game during his first season. During a recent appearance on the St. Brown Brothers Podcast, Skattebo showed his age, failing to identify a number of 2000's NFL greats. Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown showed Skattebo photos of former NFL stars and asked him to identify them. It got ugly. First and foremost; Calvin Johnson. Megatron. One of the greatest receivers in NFL history, and a Class of 2021 Hall of Fame inductee. After squinting at the screen, Skattebo gave a defeated 'I got no idea who this is.' Amon-Ra St. Brown was baffled, asking Skattebo "There's no way. When were you born?" To which Skattebo replied "2002." Advertisement The rest of the quiz didn't get much better. Hall of Famer Brett Favre? Nope. Former New York Giant receiver and Super Bowl Champion Golden Tate? Nope. Pro Bowler Marques Colston? Nope. 4-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl Champ Kam Chancellor? Nope. Hall of Fame All-2010s Teamer Darren Sproles? Nope. Skattebo needed lifelines on every single one. While the clip was light-hearted and funny, it was a brutal watch if you grew up watching these stars play on Sundays. Skattebo was also clearly not a fan of the FX show "The League," which had memorable appearances from both Taco's favorite cereal; Golden Tate, and D.A. Lipscomb's favorite running back Darren Sproles. On the bright side, it's Skattebo's job to break tackles and fight for yards, not scour football-reference for receiving yard leaders in the 2000s. If Skattebo becomes a star for New York, some day there will be a generation of young players who can't recognize his face or name either. The hope for the Giants is he reaches that status. C.J. Mosley Still Helping the New York Jets
C.J. Mosley Still Helping the New York Jets originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the first time this decade, The New York Jets will be without C.J. Mosley as a captain on defense. Mosley spent five seasons with the Jets, all of them serving as defensive captain, including a Pro Bowl season. Advertisement After years of great linebacker play on the inside, Mosley was released by the Jets as a post-June 1 cut. Despite looking for a new job in a different city, Mosley has remained close to the team's facility in Florham Park. Mosley continues to be an asset to the Jets, as one particular player has been leaning on him for guidance during camp: Quincy Williams. Williams is one of the premiere players on New York's defense. He has been partnered with Mosely on the inside for the past four seasons, including a First-Team All-Pro 2023 campaign. Williams has developed from a third-round flameout with Jacksonville to one of the NFL's best linebackers in New York. Williams' development, combined with Jamien Sherwood stepping up as both a defensive disrupter and a leader helped soften the blow of the Jets losing Mosley. Advertisement Mosley's leadership will still be missing in the locker room and off the field, and it's up to Williams to take on that load. Williams has stayed in touch with Mosley, and has relied on him for help. 'C.J. came to my camp this weekend, so we had a conversation,' Williams said at Jets OTAs on Tuesday. 'Also, he's still in New Jersey, so we've grabbed lunch a couple of times. Right now it's the mindset of picking his brain on how to be more of a leader. When he came to the Jets, to a new team, he actually sat out a year." 'So it was like what are the things that you worked on to come to a team that you really didn't know? How did you become a leader to those guys?' Without aging veterans such as Aaron Rodgers and Mosley, it's up to some of the younger Jets with tenure to pick up the slack. Williams fits the bill, as a six-year NFL veteran with accolades to boot.
