Brook, who has been part of the white-ball setup since 2022, has been pivotal to England's batting lineup across formats.
Currently ranked number two in the ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings, Brook has spent the past year as vice-captain in both ODI and T20I formats.
He made his captaincy debut against Australia last September in Buttler's absence, earning praise for his tactical awareness and calm leadership. Brook was also the captain of England U19s in the ICC Men's U19 World Cup 2018.

Buttler's tenure as captain began on a high note with England's victory in the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup.
However, the England men's side have been under the scanner in their recent outings at ICC tournaments, with a poor ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 followed by another unsuccessful title defence at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. During their white-ball tour of India and the Champions Trophy earlier this year, England managed to win only one out of the 11 matches they played across formats, eventually leading to Buttler's resignation from the captaincy. However, the swashbuckling batter confirmed he will continue to feature across formats.
The new skipper's first assignment will begin when England take on West Indies at home across three ODIs and as many T20Is from 29 May, followed by a white-ball series against South Africa at home in September.

India great Mithali Raj has revealed what she believes her former team needs to do well if they are to win a first ICC Women's Cricket World Cup title later this year. The Asian side will head into this year's tournament on home soil as one of the favourites to claim the famous trophy, though the likes of seven-time champions Australia and four-time winners England will be standing in their way as India attempt to clinch their maiden World Cup title. "They try and use more of those moments and try to shift the momentum to their side and India need to seize those moments." Yuvraj gushes praise on India star after England heroics ICC World Test Championship
Yuvraj Singh couldn't be prouder of his protege and Indian skipper Shubman Gill after he led them to draw a memorable Test series against England. Yuvraj highlighted how the ICC Men's Player of the Month for July 2025 brushed aside the doubts regarding his overseas batting record, leading the team from the front. 'There were a lot of question marks over his overseas record. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It's just unbelievable that when you're given responsibility, how you take it,' Yuvraj said, speaking to ICC Digital on the sidelines of the '50 Days To Go' Women's Cricket World Cup event. 'So, very proud of them. I certainly feel it's a win for us, although it's a drawn series, because it's a young team. And it's not easy to go and play well in England and prove yourself.' Gill was named India's Player of the Series, having amassed a staggering 754 runs, averaging 75.40 from the five Tests, which included four centuries. Yuvraj also showered praise on all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar for a gutsy, marathon stand to draw the fourth Test in Manchester. 'The moment in the tournament was when India drew the Test series. I've never seen, in a very long time, Washington and Jadeja got hundreds and drew a Test match," he added. 'That speaks volumes.
