Amritsar blackout underway as administration urges residents to stay indoors: Report

Business Upturn07-05-2025

In a late-night advisory on Wednesday, the Amritsar District Public Relations Office (DPRO) urged residents to remain indoors as part of renewed precautionary measures amid heightened regional tensions.
'Taking utmost caution, Amritsar district administration has again started the blackout process. Please stay at home, do not panic and do not gather outside your houses; keep the outside lights switched off,' the DPRO stated.

This move comes as security forces remain on high alert in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India's targeted military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Earlier today, visuals surfaced showing a moment of blackout at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar, reportedly conducted as part of a national mock drill initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to prepare citizens for emergency response.
At the same time, India's civil aviation sector has seen major disruptions. Airports across northern and western India — including Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, and Chandigarh — have been shut until 5:29 a.m. on May 10. Airlines like Air India and IndiGo have cancelled all flights to and from 13 affected cities, offering rescheduling waivers or full refunds to passengers.
The situation remains fluid, and while no official confirmation has been issued regarding any direct threat to Amritsar, authorities continue to enforce precautionary protocols.

Ahmedabad Air India Plane Crash: Cargo Motors group founder Pramukh Nanda and family reportedly were on the Air India flight

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on June 12, 2025, 15:55 IST As authorities work to confirm the identities of those on board Air India flight AI171, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on Wednesday, early reports now indicate that the founder of Cargo Motors Group, Pramukh Nanda, along with his family, was among the passengers. A leaked passenger list reveals the names 'Neha Pramukh Nanda,' 'Pramukh Pravesh Nanda,' and 'Prayash Pramukh Nanda,' confirming that three members of the Nanda family were indeed traveling on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The flight, operating on the Ahmedabad–London Gatwick route, had 242 people on board, including 169 Indian nationals and 53 British nationals. The aircraft, registered VT-ANB, departed from Runway 23 at 1:39 PM IST and issued a MAYDAY call shortly after takeoff, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The flight reportedly crashed near the Meghaninagar locality, just outside the airport perimeter. Pramukh Nanda is a known figure in Gujarat's automotive and business landscape. The Cargo Motors Group is among the most prominent auto dealerships and transport solution providers in western India. As of now, there is no official confirmation on the condition of the passengers, and rescue operations are ongoing. Authorities are expected to make formal identifications once families are informed and protocols are completed. India's CPI inflation eases to 2.82% in May from 3.16% in April

India's annual retail inflation rate, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), fell to 2.82% in May 2025, down from 3.16% in April, marking the lowest inflation print since February 2019. The decline was driven by a steep fall in food inflation, which dipped to 0.99%, compared to 1.78% in the previous month. This drop is largely attributed to easing prices in vegetables, cereals, pulses, sugar, fruits, and eggs, as well as a favorable base effect. The overall rural inflation stood at 2.59%, while urban inflation came in at 3.07%.
