Ghost of Yotei gameplay revealed, coming to PS5 on October 2: Watch it here
During a dedicated showcase event, Sony gave a first look at the upcoming title's gameplay, visuals, and story direction.
What's the game about?
Ghost of Yotei follows Atsu, a ronin (a samurai without a master) who sets out on a mission to hunt down six outlaws responsible for her family's death. The story draws inspiration from Japanese folklore, especially the legend of the onryo, a vengeful spirit — a role Atsu grows into as the plot unfolds.
Set in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) during the year 1603, the game offers an open-world experience that encourages exploration at your own pace. Players will be able to focus on different gameplay aspects depending on what they enjoy most, whether that's stealth, combat, or story progression.
Key features and visual styles
Combat in Ghost of Yotei is designed to feel like a classic samurai film. The developers say the goal is to replicate the tension and precision of swordfighting, supported by rich visuals and atmospheric environments. This time, you'll also have a wolf companion that fights alongside you.
The game includes multiple cinematic visual modes:
Kurosawa Mode: Black-and-white filter inspired by legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa.
Miike Mode: Intense, close-up, and bloody action, named after director Takashi Miike.
Watanabe Mode: A laid-back, lo-fi look inspired by Shinichirō Watanabe, known for Samurai Champloo.
There's also an expanded photo mode, giving players tools to capture and share the game's detailed environments and action sequences.
Special edition PS5 and limited accessories
Alongside the game, Sony will launch a limited-edition PS5 console and accessories themed around Ghost of Yotei. Details on pricing and availability are expected closer to the launch date.

Pratyusha Banerjee's dad gave her alcohol, their relationship was complicated: Rahul Raj Singh again attacks Balika Vadhu actor's parents
Pratyusha Banerjee, who shot to fame due to her popular show Balika Vadhu, died on April 1, 2016. It was reported to be a death by suicide. This prompted her parents to file a complaint against her then boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh. Now, in a recent interview, Rahul Raj Singh shared Pratyusha was depressed and alcohol made it worse. 'Her father used to give her alcohol,' he said. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rahul shared, 'She had been drinking long before I came into her life. Her father used to give her alcohol. When we got together, since we're actors and have to maintain our appearance, I told her that if she kept drinking like this, it would eventually lead to a disaster. She wasn't very interested in work either, and I told her clearly that if she kept alcohol in front of me, I might start drinking too, so we had to control it.' He further shared, 'Especially after Balika Vadhu ended, her relationship with her father became complicated—they were very friendly when sober, but after drinking, her father would become aggressive, and they'd end up fighting.' He said he tried his best to help her reduce her alcohol intake and encouraged her to maintain a diary. 'I used to tell her to write things like 'Today you are not supposed to drink early early in the morning.' I also wrote in it about our daily agenda, especially the non-work habits we needed to change. Today, everyone talks about dieting, and though we weren't focusing on that, at least we were tyring to cut down daily alcohol intake, or at least bring some moderation. Police reportedly found three cans of beer along with other liquor bottles at her residence. It was also reported that Pratyusha was in a deep financial crisis and couldn't even afford her car loan. Pratyusha was found dead in her rented apartment in Goregaon West. This led to the arrest of her boyfriend Rahul. He was granted anticipatory bail by Bombay high court on Jule 2, 2016. Soon after her death, several members of the television industry came forward to share statements against Rahul Raj Singh, suggesting he physically abused her and duped several women of their money on the pretext of producing films. Pratyusha had also undergone an abortion two months before her death, which Rahul claimed was a mutual decision. After her death Rahul Raj Singh claimed the actress had a drinking problem. When a case was registered against Rahul Raj Singh under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), he submitted a discharge plea. This was rejected by a sessions court in Mumbai. According to News18, Rahul Singh, in his plea claimed he was falsely implicated in the case on account of personal vendetta. At the time of her death, several reports had suggested that her tumultuous relationship with her boyfriend and financial difficulties pushed her into depression. In August 2023, SJ Ansari, additional sessions judge said, 'She had expressed her desire not to live further on account of the same to her aunt Barnali Banerjee and the tarot card reader. The pitiable condition to which the deceased had been reduced to by the accused can scarcely be imagined.' The court further said that she was being completely controlled by the accuses despite living independently.
