(Video) Netizens Slam Production Team For Local Boy Group ALPHA's Recent Messy Performance

Hype Malaysia23-06-2025
Malaysia's newest boy group, ALPHA, was recently introduced to the public. Comprised of members from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, the group was formed from the Top 7 contestants of Astro's singing competition Big Stage Alpha, handpicked by both the judging panel and the public.
The group is set to perform at Hael Hussaini's solo concert at Zepp Kuala Lumpur this August. However, before that highly anticipated appearance, they performed their first single, 'Mona Lisa (Bang Bang)' on 'Raise The Star Malaysia', but things didn't quite go as planned. Here's what happened:
ALPHA opened the 'Raise The Star Malaysia' show over the weekend, but unfortunately, several things went wrong on stage – though none of it was the boys' fault. During their performance, fans expressed frustration over the camerawork, commenting that it focused too much on the audience and parts of the stage instead of the singers. Many also pointed out that the camera zoomed out during the chorus, arguably the most important part of the performance.
As if that wasn't bad enough, one side of the stage briefly caught fire after one of the pyrotechnics appeared to malfunction. It was later revealed that the stage crew acted quickly, extinguishing the flames with a fire extinguisher, all while ALPHA continued performing. However, just as one crisis was averted, another occurred: towards the end of the performance, the smoke machine went off again, completely obscuring the singers from view.
The performance quickly went viral on social media, with fans criticising the camera operators and production team for how poorly it was executed. Some speculated that the cameraman or operator may not have attended rehearsals, as the angles, positioning, and panning appeared completely uncoordinated. Others suggested that the production team could take a cue from South Korea's Inkigayo, which is known for its seamless handling of K-pop idol performances.
At the time of writing, there has been no official statement from 'Raise The Star' or Astro about the criticism, aside from commending the stage crew for their swift response in putting out the fire. Let's hope that ALPHA won't have to deal with more stage disasters in the future.

#SHOWBIZ: BlackPink makes history at Wembley Stadium

LONDON: BlackPink proved once again why they are the biggest girl group on the planet, as they lit up Wembley Stadium last weekend. The K-pop queens made history as the first South Korean female act to ever headline the legendary venue, performing in front of a sold-out crowd of 70,000 screaming fans, as reported by BBC News. The four members — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — now share the same stage as icons like Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, BTS, and Oasis. Fans were treated to a two-and-a-half-hour show filled with superb choreography, stadium-shaking music, and plenty of heartfelt moments. The group's close bond shone just as brightly as the stage lights. Lisa called the moment "an absolute honour," while Jennie admitted it still felt "a little unreal," and Rosé summed it up as "a whole other level." The Wembley set marked the end of the European leg of their Deadline world tour, which covers 31 dates in 16 cities. The tour kicked off in Seoul with the release of their new track, 'Jump'. The single has already made history on YouTube, amassing 26 million views in just 24 hours. The tour itself is on track to break BlackPink's own record for the highest-grossing tour by a female group, a record they previously set in 2023 when they surpassed the Spice Girls. The only other K-pop act to headline Wembley is BTS, making BlackPink's achievement even more groundbreaking.

#SHOWBIZ: Jackson Wang cancels Music Korea Fan Event after emergency hospitalisation

SEOUL: K-pop idol Jackson Wang's busy schedule was temporarily paused on Friday when he was rushed to the emergency room with food poisoning at midnight. The medical emergency led to the immediate cancellation of his Music Korea Fan Sign Event, which was scheduled for the following day, as reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily. This setback comes just months after the former GOT7 member released his second album, 'Magic Man 2', in July. Since leaving JYP Entertainment in 2021 to pursue a solo career, the artiste has become well-known for his powerful vocals and smooth dance moves. Wang now faces a quick recovery to get back on track with his tight schedule, which leads up to his ambitious 'Magic Man 2' world tour, kicking off in October. The Asian leg of the tour includes major cities like Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, and Tokyo, as well as a show in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 25.
