2 Miami police internal affairs officers suspended amid drug test investigation, source says
A sergeant and a lieutenant with the Miami Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit have been suspended and placed on administrative leave as part of an ongoing investigation, according to a senior law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the case.
The officers were relieved of duty after allegedly failing a random drug test, the source said.
The internal investigation focuses on whether the sergeant and lieutenant followed departmental policies designed "to guarantee the integrity of the Miami Police Department remains intact," the source added.
The department has not publicly identified the officers or released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the investigation.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested by federal agents at an immigration court Tuesday as he was trying to accompany a person out of a courtroom. A reporter with The Associated Press witnessed Lander's arrest at a federal building in Manhattan. The person Lander was walking out of the courtroom was also arrested. Lander had spent the morning observing immigration court hearings and told an AP reporter that he was there to 'accompany' some immigrants out of the building. At a press conference following the arrest, Lander's wife, Meg Barnette, said her husband had tried to link arms with a man following his immigration court hearing when 'we were swarmed by a number of federal agents.' 'They said, 'You're obstructing,'' Barnette said. 'I was shoved out of the way.' 'What I saw was shocking and unacceptable,' she added. 'What I saw today was not the rule of law.' A video of the arrest, captured by an AP reporter, shows an agent telling Lander, 'You're obstructing." In the moments before Lander was handcuffed, agents could be seen trying to physically separate Lander from the man they had come to detain. Lander briefly struggled to stay close to the detainee before he was pulled away. 'I'm not obstructing, I'm standing right here in the hallway," Lander said as he was being handcuffed. 'You don't have the authority to arrest U.S. citizens asking for a judicial warrant,' Lander said as he was led away down a hallway and into an elevator. One of the officers who led Lander away wore a tactical vest labeled 'federal agent.' Others were in plainclothes, with surgical masks over their faces. The episode occurred as federal immigration officials are conducting large-scale arrests outside immigration courtrooms across the country. In many cases, immigrants are arrested after a judge grants a government request to dismiss their case, making them eligible for expedited removal. 'They remove any opportunity for due process,' Lander had told reporters earlier in the day after witnessing another person's hearing. Lander's detainment comes a little more than a month after Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested on a trespassing charge outside a federal immigration detention center in his city. The charge was later dropped by interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba, and Baraka's fellow Democrat, Rep. LaMonica McIver, was charged with assaulting and impeding federal agents stemming from her role at the same visit as the mayor. A federal indictment charges she grabbed, pushed and blocked officers from arresting the mayor. She's denied the charges and said she plans to fight them. Baraka filed a federal lawsuit against Habba alleging false arrest and malicious prosecution. A spokesperson for the FBI deferred comment to the Department of Homeland Security, which did not respond to an emailed inquiry. Lander is a candidate in the city's Democratic mayoral primary. Early voting in the contest is underway and the election is next week. In a statement, Lander's campaign said, "While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE.'

Denver community steps up after $10K worth of business owner's tools stolen from trailer
A Denver business owner is learning an expensive lesson after police told him he likely wouldn't ever see more than $10,000 worth of tools that were stolen. Now the community is stepping in and helping out. Denver Remodels Inc. CBS For Steve Beam, his storage trailer is more than just a home for hundreds of tools. It is also what facilitates his passion. "This is my whole business," said Beam. "I started doing remodels, and I just kind of loved it. I loved taking something and making it look better." Beam says he started Denver Remodels Inc. back in January, and it was starting to pick up business in the last few months. On June 12, however, sometime after he left the trailer at a job site overnight, thieves struck. "One of my guys called and said, 'I got some bad news,'" said Beam. "He told me that someone had broken into the trailer and stolen all my nail guns. That was kind of just the beginning of it. There's been a lot more than that." A total of 30 batteries, all of his nail guns, plumbing, electrical, and hand tools were taken. "All in all, I think it's about $10,000 or $11,000," said Beam. CBS Police told Beam the spray paint on the lock was used to mark that valuables were inside the trailer for someone to come back later and break into it. "And he said that happens a dozen times a day," said Beam. Denver police say people who own trailers should use multiple locks and consider investing in an alarm system that can detect if someone moves a trailer or tampers with its locks. It is also important to make sure tools have a unique marking and or serial number to be able to track them down once they are stolen. "I didn't catalogue my tools," said Beam. "If I had serial numbers on my tools, I'd have better recourse, but I didn't do that, so that was an expensive lesson." It was an even more emotional experience for Beam after people in his community and even former clients stepped up in the days following this incident to help crowdfund and keep his business going. "Everyone has offered their tools to loan to me. Everyone has offered to buy me stuff. To be honest with you, I'm amazed at how not put out I am," said Beam. "I feel spoiled by it." Steve Beam CBS Now, with the tools he needs to continue work, he hopes others will also pick up on ways to keep their tools and other stored items safe. "You work 50-60 hours a week. You don't think that someone's going to steal from you because it's kind of the lowest of the low, but it happens, so be cautious," said Beam.
