Health dept plants moringa trees at CHC, govt hosps

Varanasi: The health department is planting moringa trees on the premises of govt hospitals. In view of this, tree plantation was carried out at the urban community health centre in Shivpur on Friday by councillor Baliram Kannaujia, deputy chief medical officer Dr Piyush Rai, and superintendent Dr Santosh Yadav. Mission director Dr Pinky Joyel inspired people by planting a moringa tree at the same CHC. Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said that moringa is a miraculous health tree with leaves, pods, and seeds rich in nutrients. It contains abundant amounts of vitamins A, C, calcium, potassium, protein, and iron. Moringa is packed with vitamins, antioxidants, pain-relieving properties and amino acids which are highly beneficial for health. The CMO said that to increase greenery and improve the environment in the district, trees are being planted, and the nutrient-rich moringa trees are prioritised. Two moringa trees should be planted at all CHCs, PHCs, and health sub-centres in the district. He said that according to the National Family Health Survey, about 32% of children in the country are underweight for their age. Some children suffer from anaemia due to various reasons. Due to its properties, moringa can be a boon for such children, as well as for adolescents and women. Dr Santosh said that plastic is most dangerous for the environment. Plastic is a material that does not decompose for years, causing significant harm to the environment. If it is on the ground, the soil cannot absorb water, and if dumped in rivers, ponds, or seas, it becomes a threat to aquatic life. Therefore, people should be encouraged to reduce the use of plastic and prevent plastic pollution. Senior physician Dr Manoj Dubey and all the hospital staff were present at the tree planting event. From stress to self-mastery: Affirmations and conscious practices to reset your life instantly

The growing pace at which the world is moving makes it chaotic and brings physical and mental pressures, not allowing us to function with ease. Not being aligned to natural rhythms of sleeping, eating and resting mentally, we are fatigued in more than one way but it is time we outsmart the pandemic called 'stress' through easy, needful and doable steps. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Coach Samira Gupta, Executive Life and Wellness Coach, said, 'Stress isn't a setback — it's a signal for growth. Begin with the 5-Second Rule: when overwhelmed, count down 5-4-3-2-1 and take immediate action, shifting from paralysis to progress. Engage in somatic practices like body scans or mindful movement to reconnect with your body and release tension.' She recommended, 'Utilise cognitive reframing to view challenges as opportunities, asking, 'What is this teaching me?' Incorporate gratitude journaling to shift focus from stressors to strengths. These tools don't just manage stress, they harness it, transforming pressure into purpose and adversity into advantage. Embrace these practices to evolve into a resilient, self-aware leader.' Bringing her expertise to the same, Shweta Rhea Chopra, Spiritual Life Coach, shared some simple yet powerful suggestions to live consciously, combating everyday stress and leading to self mastery. 1) The moment you wake up, sit up straight on your bed for about two minutes. Bring all your attention to your heart center, connect to your being within and smile at yourself and everything out there. Thank the universe for blessing your day in the best way. Say to yourself, 'Everything in the universe supports me', announcing victory over all your endeavors. 2) Play your favourite music that elevates or inspires your spirit while dressing up. Look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'I attract blessings and fruitful outcomes and need to chase nothing'. 3) Fix 10 minutes of 'me-time' just before sleeping and write down your observations to better yourself in every area of life, be it your work or relationships. Release your worries and make little notes of communication to the divine creator with the belief that you are being heard. Only if we become as conscious of our inner grooming as we are of ourselves outwardly, life would change its pace to a much manageable one. Child marriage rate in Jharkhand registers dip, betters nat'l average: Govt

Ranchi: There has been a visible improvement in the fight against child marriage, with the state registering a 5.7% decline in child marriages, outpacing the national reduction of 3.5%, as per the latest National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), the Jharkhand IPRD department stated. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to the women and child development department, the progress is attributed to the effective implementation of welfare schemes like the Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana (SPKSY) and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), which continue to drive social change by focusing on education, awareness, and the empowerment of adolescent girls. The rate of marriage below the age of 18 years dropped from 37.9% in NFHS-4 (2015 to 2016) to 32.2% in NFHS-5 (2019 to 2021). Under the SPKSY, the state govt provided financial assistance of over Rs 424 crore to more than 7.36 lakh girls in the financial year 2024–25. Director of women and child welfare department, Kiran Kumari Pasi, said, "The drop in child marriage rates is a strong indicator that our awareness campaigns and education-focused initiatives are making a real difference on the ground. Through schemes, the govt is empowering our daughters to pursue education, delay marriage, and build brighter futures." That apart, the state also progressed in maternal health. According to the May 2025 bulletin of the Sample Registration System (SRS), the maternal mortality rate in the state dropped from 56% to 51%. The govt also met its target of a 2% annual increase in the sex ratio over the last two years for gender equity. The department also provided 10,800 gift kits to new mothers, reinforcing the message of valuing girl children. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, operational in all districts since 2023, further strengthened these outcomes. Over 50,000 awareness activities were conducted by the social welfare department, reaching more than 10 lakh children and parents. Pasi said, "These efforts focused on crucial issues such as prevention of female foeticide, promotion of institutional deliveries, pregnancy registration, school enrolment and re-enrolment of girls, menstrual hygiene, and skill development.
