Need action to create safer, healthier environment for adolescent girls in state: Experts
Patna: Policy makers, development planners and academics of the state reviewed and validated the critical evidence supporting investments, reducing child marriage and adolescent pregnancy in Bihar, at a workshop jointly organised by the Gender Resource Centre of Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) here on collaborative dialogue and evidence-based discussions, the workshop on "The Case for Investment in Interventions to Child Marriage and Reduce Adolescent Pregnancy in Bihar" underscored the need for coordinated action to create a safer, healthier, and more equitable environment for adolescent girls across the observed that despite the state's rich cultural heritage and vibrant demographics, alarming statistics from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) depict a sorry state of affairs so far as the growth and development of girl child is concerned. The statistics reveal that Bihar has the second-highest incidences of child marriage in the country, with 40.8% of women married before reaching the legal age of 18. Additionally, the prevalence of adolescent pregnancies continues to be a significant concern, with 11% of girls aged between 15 and 19 are either already mothers or pregnant with their first among those who attended the workshop and shared their experiences included development commissioner, Pratyaya Amrit; social welfare department's secretary, Bandana Preyashi; CNLU's vice-chancellor Faizan Mustafa and others.

Man gets 7-yr jail for suicide abetment
Lucknow: A Lucknow court on Saturday convicted and sentenced Rishabh Singh (34) to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation 13 years after a 20-year-old law student committed suicide. Special Judge (Ayurveda Scam Case/CBI), Rohit Singh, pronounced judgment against Rishabh under IPC Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication). The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict. In default of payment, he will undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment. An additional one-year sentence under Section 507 IPC will run concurrently. The case was registered on Dec 26, 2012, at Krishnanagar police station on complaint of Dharam Narayan Pandey of Pratapnagar. Pandey alleged his daughter, Jyoti Pandey—first-year LLB student at Chanakya National Law University, Patna— had returned home after her semester exams on Dec 3, 2012.

Traffic restrictions to be in place for 9 hours
Patna: The district administration has issued a traffic plan for Sunday in view of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 inauguration at Patliputra Sports Complex in Kankarbagh. Traffic restrictions will be enforced near the venue from 12 noon to 9pm. Ambulances, fire services, vehicles carrying patients, pedestrians and NEET (UG) candidates are exempt. Vehicle movement will be restricted on P C Colony Road, Raghunandan Marg, J P Senani Path, Gayatri Mandir Path, Ganga Devi Road and the northern stretch of Kankarbagh road – from Kankarbagh Tempo Stand to Malahi Pakri Mor. The southern lane of Kankarbagh road will remain open for two-way traffic. A complete ban will be enforced on commercial vehicles between P C Colony Road (B 82) and Rajendra Nagar Golambar. Vehicles from Anisabad Golambar will park at Aryabhatta Knowledge University, those from Patna GPO and Mithapur at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, attendees from Beur at Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University and those from Karbigahia at Chandragupt Institute of Management.
