Severe weather threat increases for metro Atlanta overnight

ATLANTA - Metro Atlanta is bracing for the possibility of severe weather overnight because of high humidity, rising temperatures, and the potential for damaging storms later Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to climb toward 90 degrees, with muggy conditions continuing throughout the day. While Tuesday afternoon should remain storm-free, FOX 5 Atlanta meteorologists are urging residents not to let their guard down.

A newly issued Level 3 out of 5 severe weather risk has been expanded further into the metro area, highlighting the threat of multiple strong thunderstorms and possible tornadoes. Areas shaded in orange on the latest risk map indicate heightened concern for dangerous conditions overnight.
Forecasters say damaging wind gusts remain the most likely threat, but hail and even tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The storm system responsible for the threat has already triggered numerous warnings in other states earlier today.
As of Tuesday morning, skies remained partly cloudy in North Georgia, with dew points similar to Monday—keeping conditions sticky and uncomfortable. Rain is not expected during the afternoon hours, but conditions will change quickly as the cold front nears.

Timeline
Storms are forecast to move into Georgia after 9 p.m., with peak activity reaching the metro Atlanta area between late evening and shortly after midnight. The system will then continue southeast, impacting areas beyond Interstate 85 in the early morning hours.
Once the line of storms passes through, the severe threat will diminish, and drier, cooler air will begin to settle in. Temperatures will drop noticeably by Friday, with morning lows near 57 degrees and highs in the upper 70s. Comfortable humidity levels are expected to persist into the weekend.

Large brush fire in northern San Diego County prompts evacuations
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Fire crews were battling a growing brush fire in northern San Diego County Friday night and evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for nearby residents. Cal Fire San Diego crews along with air support have been battling a brush fire that started around 5:45 p.m. at around 5 acres. That fire by 7 p.m. had grown to nearly 60 acres, Cal Fire reports. By 7:20 p.m., the fire had grown to 145 acres. Within 30 minutes, Cal Fire San Diego said the fire was at 182 acres and 0% contained, and most active on the eastern flank. The Henderson Fire was burning along the 35000 block of Henderson Road, north of Highway 76 in Pala, at a moderate rate of spread in grass and brush. According to Cal Fire and Alert San Diego, there are evacuation orders and warnings in place for nearby residents in Pala near the Pala Shooting Range as the fire was reported to be threatening structures. View those areas here. Evacuation warnings have since been issued for parts of Riverside County just north of the San Diego County line, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office reports. A temporary evacuation point has been set up at the Pala Resort & Casino parking lot at 11154 Hwy 76 in Pala. Due to the brush fire, CHP Oceanside has closed parts of Henderson Road and Pala Mission Road, and SR-76 at Magee Road. The North County Fire Protection District issued a smoke advisory but emphasized there is no threat to the district at this time. This is breaking. Check back for updates. 'The Wire' actor says his son was critically injured in Georgia tornado
ATLANTA – Actor Tray Chaney, known for his role in "The Wire," said that his son was seriously injured when he was thrown 300 feet from his room as a tornado barreled through their Henry County, Georgia, home on Thursday. The tornado touched down just before 4 p.m. local time outside the community of Locust Grove, which sits southeast of Atlanta. There, Chaney, his wife and son had a home they moved into only five years ago in 2020, according to the actor. "I lost my house, I lost everything in it," Chaney said in a tearful video posted on his Instagram page, showing the damage and giving an update on his family's survival. "Thank God I'm still living. I survived a tornado and my son - and he survived… I'm doing a video to let you know right now to cherish life as much as you can." Chaney noted in a separate Instagram post that he became unconscious during the storm, buried underneath debris from his home. As he regained consciousness, he was unable to find his son, Malachi. With the help of his neighbors, Chaney said he was able to locate Malachi 300 feet away in the woods behind their home with serious injuries. He was brought to the intensive care unit of a hospital, where he remains as of Friday afternoon, Chaney said on Instagram. "The worst pain of my entire life as a father watching my Son in this hospital bed in so much pain!" Chaney wrote on Instagram. "Take the house, take the money, take the cars all the material things I just want my Son back in great health like he was." Tornado Rips Through Georgia Neighborhood, Critically Injuring 18-Year-old Henry County Police Deputy Chief Jason Bolton told FOX 5 Atlanta that residents did not have much warning ahead of time. "The first call came in around 3:32 p.m., and that was right about the same time that we received warning from the National Weather Center," Bolton said. Free pool passes given out ahead of summer in Lisbon
LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – There's anxiety for warmer weather and pool season — both will come soon. Lisbon demonstrated its desire to dive into summer on Friday. There was a long line to get a free pool pass for the season. The Sadie Van Fossan Pool along Cedar Street is a popular place for cool relief from the summer heat. The passes were on a first come, first served basis. The cost was covered by the Salvation Army. 'It's really exciting,' said Zach Smith, parks committee chairman. 'The village loves the pool. Kids are out for the summer, a lot of things to do here. It's usually filled when it's nice weather.' The pool will open at noon on Monday. Weather delayed it from opening before Memorial Day.
