Flights are 'almost always cheaper' on two days of the month
Flights are 'almost always cheaper' on two days of the month A travel expert has revealed the best time to book a holiday, including the perfect time to get the cheapest flights and hotels - and it's not as far in advance as you might think There's nothing better than saving money on a holiday (Image: Getty ) Booking holidays can really add up, so any chance to get a good deal is very welcome. Dawn Morwood, co-director of Cheap Deals Away, has spent years monitoring the fluctuating pricing tactics of airlines and hotels, and has some useful advice on saving some cash. It's all about the timing. While you might think booking as far in advance as possible, this actually isn't usually the best approach, says Dawn. "I've seen people book flights 10 months early thinking they've got a bargain, only to watch the same route drop by £200 per person just weeks before departure," she said. "Airlines use dynamic pricing, which means they're constantly adjusting based on demand predictions." But likewise, waiting until the last minute to arrange your holiday can be just as detrimental, with the likelihood of snagging a late deal becoming slimmer, reports the Express. "The days of rocking up to the airport and getting a massive discount are largely gone," said Dawn. "What you're more likely to find are inflated prices, limited availability, and having to compromise on everything from departure times to accommodation quality." Article continues below It can be difficult to figure out if you're getting the best deal (Image: Getty ) Budget airlines and holiday operators are most likely to put up their fares closer to the departure date, Dawn added. "The travel industry has its own rhythm, and understanding that can make the difference between a bargain and a disappointment," she said. According to Dawn, the ideal time to book short-haul flights to European destinations is six to eight weeks prior to departure. For long-haul journeys, it's best to secure your holiday booking eight to 12 weeks in advance. Article continues below However, these guidelines vary with the seasons. Those planning a summer getaway are advised to book their short-haul European trips 10 to 12 weeks ahead of time. "But for a city break in February, you can often get away with booking just four to six weeks ahead and still secure excellent deals," Dawn added. The most attractive deals are typically found when there's some flexibility around departure dates, airports, and even destinations. "Tuesday and Wednesday departures are almost always cheaper than weekend flights," Dawn said. "And flying from alternative airports can cut costs dramatically."

Natalie Cassidy horrified as 'disgusting' fake cancer claim sparks fan concern
EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy has condemned a false Facebook post that wrongly claimed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, calling the hoax 'disgusting and disgraceful' Natalie Cassidy has lashed out at a false and deeply upsetting online hoax that claimed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, calling the fake post both 'disgusting and disgraceful.' The 42-year-old actress, who is best known for her longtime role as Sonia Fowler on EastEnders, took to Instagram to publicly denounce the fabricated story after it began circulating on Facebook. The post falsely stated that Cassidy had broken down in tears while revealing a secret cancer battle, alongside two photos of her taken on the EastEnders set. The phoney headline read: 'Natalie Cassidy Breaks Down as She Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis: 'I Didn't Want Anyone to Know…". The post encouraged users to 'see details in comment,' mimicking the clickbait formula often used to spread misinformation on social media. Clearly furious, Cassidy responded with a strong message to her 531,000 followers on Instagram. She shared a screenshot of the phoney post and fumed: 'THIS IS DISGUSTING AND DISGRACEFUL. So many people are going through this and I have had messages asking if I'm ok. It is completely made up and a terrible story. Take this down whoever you are." Her outrage is understandable as the fake post not only exploited public concern for her wellbeing, but also disrespected those who are genuinely battling cancer. Cassidy's comments quickly received support from fans and fellow celebrities, who echoed her anger at the growing problem of online misinformation and impersonation. The false claims surfaced shortly after Cassidy's emotional exit from EastEnders in April. Her character, Sonia Fowler, departed Walford in a dramatic storyline after she was wrongly accused of murder – but later discovered it was her partner Reiss Colwell who had committed the heinous crime. In her final scenes, Sonia left with sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), daughters Bex (Jasmine Armfield) and baby Julia, and a cloud of unresolved family tension involving her estranged father, Terry Cant (Glen Davies). After locking Terry in a garage, the women made a last-minute escape, towing his speedboat and waving farewell to their neighbours. Since leaving the long-running soap, Cassidy has stayed busy with new projects. She's currently hosting a consumer-focused programme for Channel 4 and is also working on a BBC documentary where she trains to become a carer - demonstrating a new chapter in both her career and personal growth. Unfortunately, Cassidy isn't the only soap star to face the damaging effects of online scams. Just days earlier, Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley - best known for playing Mandy Dingle - warned fans about fake accounts and AI bots pretending to be her. Riley posted a video addressing the issue directly: 'If something is not on my page – and my page is blue-ticked – then it is not real,' she said. 'It is AI pretending to be me, and there is nothing I can do about it. It's a hoax, it's a scam and it's a lie. So please, I'm begging you, don't click on it, don't believe it, don't read it, don't give it any attention. It's not true.' Riley had earlier expressed regret after learning that fans were tricked into sharing their personal bank details with impersonators posing as her online. Riley had previously apologised to fans who were duped into sharing financial information with scammers posing as her online.
